This is so ridiculous, many of them look around 25.

yanbu, they do look old.
asian males often do though, plus their lives are incredibly hard, i can't imagine it does much for the complexion.

BagelGoesWalking · 17/10/2016 21:29

I understood that the ones being accepted in the uk today are those who already have family members on the uk, so it was based on this connection primarily, as well as their (supposed) ages.

I wish we had been more willing to take Yazidi woman, who are very likely to be rejected by their community because of the awful things that were done to them by Isis.

ItShouldHaveBeenJessMass · 17/10/2016 21:29

giles. You're bordering on surrealism now. Get a grip.

Bitofacow · 17/10/2016 21:30

Pinkypie - I am in awe of your humanitarianism.

angryangryyoungwoman · 17/10/2016 21:31

It is possible to have compassion for adults as well as children who are trying to escape the war, so it could be argued that it doesn't matter whether you think these humans are older than you think they are. They are safe. They are humans. This matters.
It doesn't mean that other people are more or less deserving, such as the female children and adults that are still in danger in their wartorn countries. It also doesn't mean that because some people lie about their age to save their own lives, that they are more likely to be a danger to others, which is what seems to be being implied here

sylwright · 17/10/2016 21:31

Waffles80 I wonder why anyone expressing an opinion you obviously disagree with and reading an article in a paper you clearly despise, makes them bigots.

To be honest I think your comments say more about you than it does about the others expressing their honest opinions

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/10/2016 21:32

Does any one know what the checks are??
Out of curiosity, what independent medical and dental checks are done?

And once again, what enquiriess are made into claims to have family in the UK? These are all questions I've asked repeatedly but never had a real answer - which is why I worry whether there really are any proper checks made

Amalfimamma · 17/10/2016 21:33

VJM123

How many are you willing to house, feed, clothe and take care Of? Please send me your details via PM so that when the next boat arrives I can pass on those details to these poor refugees.

SleepFreeZone · 17/10/2016 21:33

And this right here is why so many people voted to leave the European Union.

VJM123 · 17/10/2016 21:33

... I'd be happy for my children to share a class with any 10 year old from wherever they came from. My children are privileged in a way these children can only hope to be again.

Why? Wouldn't you?

VJM123 · 17/10/2016 21:34

I've already done a stint at Calais thank you. Pass me yours and I'll add you to my volunteers database

almondpudding · 17/10/2016 21:35

Jess, as far as I understand it, those people have specific asylum claims, but the overall policy should not favour males in total numbers over females.

Unless you are suggesting we take all Syrian refugees (between four and five million), we have to make decisions about who gets priority, and at the moment Europe is overwhelmingly taking males.

It is worse that virtue signalling on the part of those in power. It is dressing up a callous economic preference for males of working age, or near to working age over the rest of the population.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 17/10/2016 21:35

Where are the young children and girls

Some of them maybe under 18 I don't believe most are. Every time we take in a young man hrntakes the place of someone in a more vulnerable position. We can't take in everyone that tries to make their way here and we should be taking more of the most vulnerable in the camps on the borders of Syria

Today's news must make people smugglers rub their hands what a great advert for them as they know they will be profiting from this

Haunter · 17/10/2016 21:35

They weren't kept in camps, they were free to leave at any time and claim asylum in France, or any of the other countries they passed through.

Bitofacow · 17/10/2016 21:35

I have introduced my children to some of the refugees I work with.

They survived.

VJM123 · 17/10/2016 21:36

... probably why so many people think we are actually a poor country you mean? Still amazes me how many people believe the bullshit right wing governments feed you. MSM is a business owned by people that want you to believe the things they tell you... why won't people open Their eyes?

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 17/10/2016 21:37

'children' don't all come in the form of cutesy toddlers you know!!

RoseGoldHippie · 17/10/2016 21:37

VJM123 I'm not jumping on you - just wondered what you meant by 'done your stint in Calais'?

PinkyOfPie · 17/10/2016 21:37

ItShould it's quite possible to feel compassion (and I don't blame anyone for 'sneaking' in at all) whilst also expressing concern about the way they have been admitted.

Virtue signalling doesn't = giving a shit, it's about having all talk of caring but no action

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 17/10/2016 21:38

And this right here is why so many people voted to leave the European Union.
What's this to do with the EU?

FFS.

Gileswithachainsaw · 17/10/2016 21:38

I said yr 10

And the point is that the people claiming to be the same age and ergo in the same yr could well turn out to be much older

Your ok with that?

clam · 17/10/2016 21:38

Waiting for the 'there's no room' fallacy argument

It's not a fallacy, ffs! There are millions of displaced people on this planet, who would love to migrate to Europe (and the UK) if able. They're all human, and therefore it could be argued that we should take them in.

Just HOW are we going to manage that?

almondpudding · 17/10/2016 21:39

Angryyoungwoman, the female refugees are not in their original war torn countries.

They are in places like Turkey, as refugees.

We (the UK) are supposed to have a policy of prioritising vulnerable people from the camps bordering Syria.

myyoyo · 17/10/2016 21:39

'it's actually quite scary that these men will be around our vulnerable Young girls'
Why what do you think is going to happen? You are scaremongering.

VJM123 · 17/10/2016 21:39

... mini bus taking aid when the first influx happened. We are truly lucky not to be in these peoples shoes.
