This is so ridiculous, many of them look around 25.

Of course it would be smiling - because questionning what tests and checks are done can only mean that you're a racist bigot

ItShouldHaveBeenJessMass · 17/10/2016 22:17

I didn't make the comparison, sir, I was merely pointing out how Britain's refusal to offer help or sanctuary earlier had an impact on the lives of many. I'm intrigued as to why the other 'safe' countries should take in migrants but not the UK. What makes us so special?

Herhighness · 17/10/2016 22:19

Shocked you are reading Daily Mail and even more shocked you believe what they write.
It's a shocking paper, they will have deliberately photographed older looking children just to wind everyone up.
Please don't believe their silly stories they just want to cause a fuss.

sylwright · 17/10/2016 22:19

ah now I remember why I stopped taking part in any discussions on Mumsnet, because its so full of bleeding heart left wing liberals who despise the rest of us for having the audacity to have an opinion that doesn't meet their warped standards

brimfullofasha · 17/10/2016 22:19

Thank you MOOMINMAMA you said what I was trying to say very eloquently

PinkyOfPie · 17/10/2016 22:19

It occurred to me to google the age check thing! Assuming this applies to migrants from Calais camp we've seen today, it seems there are pretty much no checks done on age unless they look significantly older than 18.

www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/257462/assessing-age.pdf

Unless there's a reason this wouldnt apply to the people in the OP?

PinkyOfPie · 17/10/2016 22:21

syl didn't you know that giving a shit how children could be affected is terribly old fashioned and we need to pander to the wishes of men? Hmm

SirChenjin · 17/10/2016 22:22

No, I'm sure that's not right Pinky - after all, Racist Bigot there has Friends In The Know, and there are very definitely, no doubt about it, many tests and checks carried out, despite what the Govt says

ItShouldHaveBeenJessMass · 17/10/2016 22:22

warped standards. Giving a shit about other people's lives? Wow. That's got to be my favourite MN post of the year.

clam · 17/10/2016 22:23

they will have deliberately photographed older looking children just to wind everyone up.

Well, to be fair, they photographed the 14 "children" who arrived today.

PinkyOfPie · 17/10/2016 22:23

Yes Sir maybe my link was a red herring and we'll never know the real top secret way tests are carried out? Hmm

SirChenjin · 17/10/2016 22:26

It's true. There's a top secret bunker in deepest France where the carbon date every young man applying for asylum. I know this for a fact because a friend told me.

PinkyOfPie · 17/10/2016 22:28

I heard they go on Jeremy Kyle and do a lie detector test about how old they are, where they're from and if they're in the UK to nick someone's factory job. It's DEFINITELY true a very reliable source swore me to secrecy

smilingmind · 17/10/2016 22:29

Maybe I shouldn't have called people racist bigots but I am so totally disgusted and upset by comments on this thread by so many people who seem to have no common humanity.

SirChenjin · 17/10/2016 22:30

You can't tell anyone though, because that would be pandering to racist bigots

ItShouldHaveBeenJessMass · 17/10/2016 22:30

Glad it's a topic for a laugh! Happy days! Think I'll stick to my bleeding heart liberalism, virtue signalling and warped standards, ta very much.

Corialanusburt · 17/10/2016 22:31

Are you all the Refugee Verfication Police of the Mumhood?

sussexman · 17/10/2016 22:32

Well, that's certainly what the Mail wants you to think. Of course the actual story accepts the ages given (most likely because, er, they researched it) .

Still, I'm sure being to the right of the actual Daily Mai is an achievement.

You could just link the the mail story and credit it as well.

SirChenjin · 17/10/2016 22:32

In the absence of all other apparent medical and dental verification it looks like we'll have to be.

ItShouldHaveBeenJessMass · 17/10/2016 22:33

smiling. I don't know about 'racist' (although I certainly have an idea) but certainly bigoted. You should all be fucking ashamed of yourselves. Making snippy little cracks about people whose lives are in utter turmoil. Revolting.

smilingmind · 17/10/2016 22:35

RoseGoldHippie I don't know if anyone knows what will happen to the unaccompanied children in Calais without family in the UK.
Many of them have already disappeared. Some say into prostitution and slavery.
If no provision is made for them then their outlook seems bleak.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/10/2016 22:37

I found the same link Pinky and it's not very reassuring

Unfortunately it seems once again that "racist bigot" is shorthand for "anyone who poses a question I'd rather not answer" Sad After all, last time I looked policies such as this were a matter of public record in the UK, unless good security reasons existed for non-disclosure ... and at such a time I'd have thought there's an obvious public interest principle involved

myownprivateidaho · 17/10/2016 22:39

I agree some of the guys in the pictures in the mail don't look like teenagers. But it's also painfully obvious that the mail has set up the article precisely so that people notice this. It has obviously chosen these pictures carefully. So as usual I don't think you can deduce anything about the world from the DM.

sussexman · 17/10/2016 22:39

Also which 3

PinkyOfPie · 17/10/2016 22:40

I do wish rather than "disgusting" "racist" "bigot" "inhumane" type frothy posts people would actually point out what they think is bigoted/racist/inhumane on this thread so others can have a chance to counter their point?
