to want to divorce the Scots

Honestly, I have 3 BFs who are Scottish and I love the place but I am heartily sick of being threatened with another independence referendum - clearly this is just going to be repeated ad infinitum

It seems pretty clear that most Scots do not want to remain in the UK so I wish that they would just go rather than holding the sword of Damocles over the heads of everyone else in the UK. If there were a UK wide referendum on Scotland remaining in the UK, whilst ideally I'd love them to stay, I am afraid I would certainly vote for Spexit and let them get on with it rather than having to listen to the constant whinging ....

If Brexit does happen, I think the union will end. I also think Scotland will be the gainer for it, and the rest of us the losers.

That said: Scottish football? What is that about??! It's like premier league football in slow motion. Grin

(I kid, I kid. Am half Scottish).

RebootYourEngine · 17/10/2016 13:06

Nicola Sturgeon can go and boil her heed for all i care.

The people i know who voted for Independence have all said that they would vote no this time.

Instead of focusing on Independence she needs to focus on getting a good deal for Scotland and its people from Westminster.

DoloresVanCartier · 17/10/2016 13:10

Shovetheholly - I fear I shall have to now fight you outside the school gates for your disparaging comment regarding Scottish fitba.
I will have you know I have spent the last four years in the pishing rain at tiny wee grounds all over Scotland until my team were back where they belong in the Premier. I wouldn't have done this if I wasn't watching the best team football in the world Grin

P.S. Don't bring any of your mates or I'll have to do them in too!! Glad I'm 41 and not 14 anymore GrinGrin

MistresssIggi · 17/10/2016 13:11

Best deal she can get is to break away from the shower at Westminster.

2kids2dogsnosense · 17/10/2016 13:16

Alex salmond was an arsehole.

This, ^^^^, with tartan knobs on!

shovetheholly · 17/10/2016 13:17

dolores - Grin Grin I'm just yanking your blue and white scarf!!

(It takes a hardier woman than I am to stand in the Scottish rain for 2 hours in the winter)

RabbitsNap01 · 17/10/2016 13:17

yes he was a bullying twat of an arsehole :)

ginghamstarfish · 17/10/2016 13:25

Actually didn't the EU say before the Brexit vote that it would not be possible for Scotland to remain on its own? (and have said it since) Didn't they say Scotland would have to join as a new member, pay the huge contributions, accept the Euro and so on? If that were the case then I really cannot see a majority voting for it.

BuggersMuddle · 17/10/2016 13:25

Well as a Scot who was a 'no' voter in the referendum, I didn't expect to be sitting here with a tanking economy ruled by fuckwits...

Democracy doesn't mean 'put up and shut up', despite what many who support the current trajectory seem to think.

Although at the moment another referendum feels likes frying pan / fire kind of choice.

wibblewobble8 · 17/10/2016 13:56

What is the difference between the more extreme members telling people to 'fuck off back to England' and the same elements in the BNP telling ethnic minorities the same 'fuck off back where you came from'. Well for a start its not condoned in the SNP, despite people insisting that what NS stands for its not whereas it is in the BNP. Secondly, those extremist views by individual members are considered extreme and unpleasant by the majority of SNP members, and are not what the SNP represents. im pretty sure the extremist views in the BNP are readily accepted and are pretty much touted by the BNP from what i read in their manifesto (even if was worded less offensively). SNP are about inclusion, BNP are about exclusion, thats the difference. If you are looking for a party that draws parallels to the BNP maybe you ought to be looking at the Tories. HTH.

We don't want independence. We voted against it in the once in a lifetime referendum.

Things can change. And the EU Brexit decision is also a pretty big change. As the poster a few posts up says Democracy doesn't mean 'put up and shut up', despite what many who support the current trajectory seem to think which I totally agree with.

Purplefrogshoes · 17/10/2016 14:41

Yes but as we voted to remain in the UK, we voted as part of the UK. I say this as someone who voted to remain in the EU.

LagunaBubbles · 17/10/2016 15:05

Not sure what your point is Purple sorry. Lots people were told the only way to stay in the EU was to vote No, which is now not true.

wibblewobble8 · 17/10/2016 15:38

Scotland voting anything as part of the UK is a redundant vote due to the sheer difference in size of numbers between Scotland and England. What England says, goes. It begs the question why bother voting? Even if 100% of NI, Wales and Scotland voted in unison, we could be out voted by just 20% of England. Its not, and never has been, a fair relationship.

howabout · 17/10/2016 16:12

Not strictly true wibblewobble. More than 1 million Scots voted Brexit so almost enough to lay claim to the outcome.

Many Scots voted Remain as they were told by Struth that it was the best way to avoid Indyref2. You can see the correlation with the 25% Scots Tory vote. I would want to rerun the EU ref as part of any Indy proposal as I do not think Scots were purely answering the EU question on its own merits.

As others have said there has been no move towards proIndy in Scotland. No idea how I will vote in the next Westminster elections though.

BeckerLleytonNever · 17/10/2016 16:42

I want a divorce from fucking sturgeon, calling all brexiteers xenophobic.

who the fuck does she think sher is?

SHES the one that's bloody phobic and brexiist.

if she wants to leave , the fuck off.

much as I love Scotland, and the people and history and traditions, let them go if they want to, but she can take a fucking running jump. with her disgusting assumptions that 17 million people are rascist.

BeckerLleytonNever · 17/10/2016 16:44

*As far as I'm concerned, Scotland had a referendum and made the choice to stay. Now it should accept the consequences of that choice, which means living with whatever it is that the majority of the UK votes for.
Bit fed up of some people thinking they can ignore democracy and keep asking the same question over and over again until they get the result they prefer.

The other thing that occurs to me is that Sturgeon should be careful of promising the world to Scotland - she might one day be called upon to deliver it. Look how well that worked out for Boris!*

and this ^^

no one knows what democracy means any more?

MrsB44 · 17/10/2016 16:47

I don't know where you're getting your information that 'most Scots want to leave'
We're planning a move south of the border should it happen as I will not be bringing up my children in an independent Scotland.
I think you may need to check your statistics as most Scots that I know (I am a Scot and live in Scotland so I'm guessing I know more than you do) do not want to leave.

originalmavis · 17/10/2016 16:57

My sister predicted this when the referendum happened - woooooo!

Blame the Brexiteers. I'm in London and I dont want to be part of the post-brexit union either.

caitlinohara · 17/10/2016 16:57

Have the EU made any concrete assurances to Scotland yet? I can't imagine the Spanish government being too thrilled if Scotland are allowed to gain independence and remain in the EU, they will say it will encourage Catalonia or Galicia or wherever it is to push for independence as well.
