I'm on a Facebook mum's group and people KEEP misspelling "choking" as "chocking". WHY?!?! This spelling mistake doesn't even make sense.

You get a whole post spelled completely correctly and then - "chocking/chocked/chock"

It's giving me the rage.

Are you in the same group as me?! I'm in one where people constantly talk about "chocking" and it annoys the shit out of me!

buttercup15 · 17/10/2016 13:54

The one that gets me is 'en route'. Variations I have seen include:

On route
En/on rout
And my personal favourite... On root

'Just on root to London!'

Other massive annoyance is people who don't know how to pluralise and use apostrophes instead. I frequently see this kind of mistake on blogs, which I really don't understand as these are people trying to make a living out of writing.

'Had two great day's out this week!'
'Looking after three baby's today!'
'My girl's are so sweet'

ARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHH.

Unicorncatsack · 17/10/2016 13:57

marmite oooh possibly!!!

"On route" is another one that winds me up

Oh yes, and when people write 'payed' instead of 'paid'. What's that all about? Have I missed the memo?

fakefuss · 17/10/2016 14:02

My DM writes 'has' instead of 'as' (she thinks everyone is common and are dropping the 'H').

onecurrantbun1 · 17/10/2016 14:06

Someone I know once wrote about their baby daughter "being with my Angel makes me feel contempt"... I hope they meant content!

DaphneCanDoBetterThanFred · 17/10/2016 14:09

I've just come across "horable" for "horrible" on fb Smile But you know what? That's kind of how it sounds! If you hadn't seen it written down, and had to have a crack at it that's what you'd write. Linguistics is my job* so I find it interesting rather than annoying. Apart from "he's" for his.. That's just flat out full-body-shudder awful.

*disclaimer - can't write for shit on Mumsnet Grin

paranormalish · 17/10/2016 14:09

Buttercup
On route is fine, it isn't an error.

acatcalledjohn · 17/10/2016 14:14

At least those two sound the same, like affect & effect

They do not sound the same if pronounced correctly. I grant you that the difference is subtle, but not that subtle.

Haven't read RTFT, and I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere on pages 2-6, but would of gives me the absolute rage.

ThisUsernameIsAvailable · 17/10/2016 14:15

I have a 'friend' he writes hilderous instead of hilarious. I have no idea how she doesn't realise it's not a word Hmm

onecurrantbun1 · 17/10/2016 14:15

paranormalish I thought "on route" was an error too, isn't it "en route"?

jayisforjessica · 17/10/2016 14:16

I Also Can't Stand People Who Type Like This, As If Their Statuses Are The Name Of The Latest Fallout Boy Song...

Hidingtonothing · 17/10/2016 14:17

This would make my teeth itch but the worst one I ever encountered was an area manager who referred to 'your respected branches' instead of respective, god it drove me mad!

onecurrantbun1 · 17/10/2016 14:18

DaphneCanDoBetterThanFred · 17/10/2016 14:20

Oh god buttercup apostrophes for plurals drives me crazy Sad So many people I know do it, and these are people my age, not dyslexic or with any other issues. I've had to hide at least one person on fb as it was fucking constant..

"Spending fun time's with my beautiful daughter's and all our best friend's" Angry

Mitzimaybe · 17/10/2016 14:20

My current bugbear is rein / rain / reign. "I'm a bit skint so I need to reign back on the spending this month."

'Feint' lines on pregnancy tests. Argh.

jayisforjessica · 17/10/2016 14:23

Apostrophe abuse is pandemic and it pains me so much...

QuietNinjaTardis · 17/10/2016 14:24

Led instead of laid is common here (Bristol)

YES!!!! And "Ekkk!" Instead of "Eek!"

I have a family friend who opps-es and ekks all over fb and me and DM always exchange eye rolls over it.

Emmageddon · 17/10/2016 14:26

Hoovering purposefully in the background instead of hovering purposefully (Crossroads script error mentioned up thread) is the funniest thing I've read today. Grin

QuietNinjaTardis · 17/10/2016 14:27

And when people write reaching instead of retching. Is reaching a thing when you're sick?

wherethefuckisthefuckingtuna · 17/10/2016 14:29

I've noticed in the last couple of years that people seem to keep writing 'been' when they mean 'being'.

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

Emmageddon · 17/10/2016 14:29

I saw a very expensive slate wine rack with the words "Wine get's better with age, the older I get, the more I like it" engraved on it. It's in the window of a craft shop in Betws-y-Coed - if anyone goes there, have a look and see if it's still there.
