I have a 15 day old who had an overnight hospital stay last week for poor feeding and weight loss,he has really improved since. However his toddler sister came home with a tummy bug Friday and today newborn ds has not fed since 8.30am. He vomited badly at 9am, again at 11.30 and has rejected all feeds no matter how much we tried. Syringe fed him at 6pm and he projectiled it all back up. He also has a temp of 35.3 and barely woken all day.

I don't know what to do :(

Hope he's on the mend soon. Dd had sepsis at 3 weeks, was in for a week for iv antibiotics, but has made a perfect recovery. Scary for you, but in the best place now. Don't forget to take care of yourself as well xx

Haggisfish · 17/10/2016 18:38

KitKat1985 · 17/10/2016 18:41

Stillnoidea · 17/10/2016 18:42

Just another person to send you big hugs and hope he gets better soon.

DD2 had sepsis age 10 days and was in PICU for a week on iv antibiotics, and like with the poster above, is now a happy and fine 10 year old. It's a very tough experience but it sounds like your instincts meant you got there in good time.

MothersGrim · 17/10/2016 19:05

Op ignore the 111 idiot Angry fool. You did the right thing, I was in this position two weeks ago you poor thing, thank goodness you didnt waste time on 111 and got him in, Flowers

Lupinlady5 · 17/10/2016 19:24

Wishing DS a speedy recovery.

justgivemeamo · 17/10/2016 19:27

you're always better to err on the side of caution. He always says 'what's worse- being told nothing is wrong and you've overreacted, or being told that you've left it too late and done more harm?

In the lives of my two I have done both, over reacted and got them in when needs be - both times I was treated with utter care and helpfulness and as I profusely apologised for wasting time on rare occasions I was always reprimanded for thinking that way - always get little ones checked out - always err on side of caution .

sepsisandAKI · 17/10/2016 19:39

I think as mums we don't like to make a fuss. Sometimes youve just got to trust your instinct. Sepsis can present in a number of different ways. A low temperature is a sign of sepsis as well as a high one. Well done for trusting your instinct. Hope your little one is soon on the mend Flowers

DartmoorDoughnut · 17/10/2016 19:47

Good catch Flowers hope he responds quickly and you're back home soon

ineedwine99 · 17/10/2016 19:54

How scary for you Beth. I really hope his recovery is swift and uneventful Flowers

NorfolkEnchance · 17/10/2016 20:00

My youngest had sepsis and hypothermia at birth, iv antibiotics and heat mat. We were in for 5 days but he made a full recovery and is now 11 months old. Hoping for a speedy recovery for your little one.

itsnotterrysitsmine · 17/10/2016 20:04

Oh OP, really feel for you & your DS. It's just horrible seeing your baby go through this, one of hardest things as a parent. Well done for trusting your instincts , Sending lots of hugs, and wishes for a speedy recovery for him.

DailyMailPenisPieces · 17/10/2016 20:10

Flowers. I hope he is better soon, OP.

Pythonesque · 17/10/2016 20:16

Best wishes hope you have more sleep tonight!
Babies under perhaps 4-6 weeks old are treated incredibly seriously. My youngest was kept in for 24 hours at about 3 weeks old - when I'd found his temperature up at home; even though it stayed normal on monitoring he was given that full day's check to be sure. Any hint of it actually going up again (or low) and he'd have had all the tests done too.

The flip side of treating them that seriously, because they can end up very ill very quickly, is that once they are on the mend they can get better quite quickly too. Best wishes for the next few days!

MerryInthechelseahotel · 17/10/2016 20:58

sepsisandAKI thank you for telling us that low temperature can be a symptom of sepsis too.

Blizy · 17/10/2016 21:16

Beth215 I'm sorry to hear you little ds is ill.
My ds had Sepsis at 6 weeks old too, his symptoms sound very similar to what you described. He was in hospital for a week and had to return as a day patient for IV Ab's for 10 days after discharge. He also had a profalctic ab for a year. He has had several appointments to check his kidneys are working since, he's now 21 months and has been formally discharged. I hope your boy recovered as well as mine has. Lots of un MN hugs to you, it's a really stressful time, if you need to pm me please do.

Just found this thread. How awful. I can totally understand someone canvassing opinions about this online. It's so hard to know what's the right thing to do when little ones are ill. I hope all is well Op.

harderandharder2breathe · 17/10/2016 21:31

Always err on the side of caution with such a tiny baby

He's in the right place and will hopefully make a full and speedy recovery Flowers for you
