To wear my wedding dress to dinner?

DisneyMillie · 14/10/2016 12:00

It's my wedding day tomorrow Smile and I'm just having a fairly low key day with an afternoon tea and drinks at the venue afterwards. My husband (!) and I will then be going out for dinner on our own and I'd like to wear my wedding dress.

It's a mid calf 50s type dress so not massive but obviously bridal. Would this be a terrible plan?

My mother thinks I'm being pathetic and will look ridiculous and can't possibly do it. I'd just rather keep it on as it's my wedding day and I don't see what harm it does.

In case it makes a difference it's a small fine dining restaurant so not many people there and we're eating quite late.

When can you wear a wedding dress other than at your wedding, your mum has strange views.

YouMakeMyDreams · 14/10/2016 15:55

Totally do it. I did...well kind of we all went to the pub. Same sort of dress. First wedding was just a small family and siblings and all the young adults left kids with grandparents and went off to the pub after wed all eaten.
It was great fun. I was soooooo drunk and dress was a bit minging afterwards.

KitKats28 · 14/10/2016 15:59

I went to the pub and to McDonald's in mine too. Not a meringue, but still fairly obvious it was a wedding dress, especially as my DH had his suit on with a buttonhole.

ShelaghTurner · 14/10/2016 16:02

Wear it! Congratulations, have a wonderful day! 👰🏼💐💍

blondieblondie · 14/10/2016 16:07

Absolutely wear it. It's hopefully your one and only wedding day, so do whatever the hell you want, not anyone else; especially not your very unmotherly mother. I hope tomorrow is the first of many happily married days for you Flowers

ReynoldsGirl · 14/10/2016 16:08

I'm a bit late to this thread but I would like to add my vote to wearing the dress!
I got married in a similar dress and kept it on for afternoon tea in a cafe on Southwold pier and dinner in a lovely restaurant in the town in the evening and it was just me and my husband.
When we were leaving the restaurant some other diners recognised us from earlier in the day which was lovely.
I wanted to keep my dress on as long as possible.

GettingMuckyFingersCrossed · 14/10/2016 16:10

Wear the dress
I bet everyone in the restaurant comes over to congratulate you
Doooooooooooo iiiiiiiiiiit !

altiara · 14/10/2016 16:20

I love seeing brides in wedding dresses, it really makes my day Smile

Onenerfwarfrombreakdown · 14/10/2016 16:23

Of course you can wear it! Have a wonderful wedding day, enjoy every moment.
Your Mum sounds like she's a bit jealous of you and DH going off just the 2 of you for dinner. What a nasty, mean spirited thing to say. Don't pay her any heed at all!

Mia1415 · 14/10/2016 16:48

Wear it and have an amazing day!

Sweetpea302 · 14/10/2016 17:03

Wear it and have a blast! It sounds like you've planned a wonderful day and you should enjoy every part of it. I'd love to see someone in a wedding dress if I was out for dinner - I'd feel honoured to be part of your day in a very small way! Congratulations!

Lookdownthesofa · 14/10/2016 18:12

I saw someone in my local independent coffee shop wearing an understated wedding dress, with a small bouquet on the table. Only the bride and two other females. No sign of the groom (could have been a gay wedding, I suppose...)

My first thought was "how lovely, a wedding party in the coffee shop". Then I was dying to know what the situation was. The three women were all upbeat, so I don't think there was any chance of a jilting. Maybe they were waiting for transport to the ceremony venue.

Anyway.... a very long-winded way of saying I certainly wouldn't think it odd if I saw you in your wedding dress with your new husband having a meal. I would think it charming and lovely.

Congratulations and have an amazing day.

Wear it. I got married in a full length red fishtail dress and a white marabou bolero, we had our reception in a local pub surrounded by people in jeans and then we went on to a nightclub. Lots of people came over to congratulate us (i may have been buying everyone champagne Blush ).

Congratulations - enjoy your day.

blondiemummabear · 14/10/2016 18:47

I hope you both have the most amazing day tomorrow and a married life full of love and laughter Flowers

dontcallmelen · 14/10/2016 21:09

Aww many congratulations have a wonderful day, your dress sounds like my Dd's she had a fifties style tea length, with yellow underskirts & walked from the wedding ceremony too the reception venue, so many people stopped & waved, enjoy your meal & enjoy your beautiful dress👰💐🍾

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 14/10/2016 21:28

Huge Congratulations, I hope you both have a wonderful wedding day and lovely, you wear your dress all day and what's more, you enjoy it.

The most important thing is that you feel fabulous and that you both have a fabulous time during your wedding celebrations. No one will crab about it, so don't even give it a thought.

I think your Mum's out of touch and I wouldn't give what she says a second thought FYI my DCs are well grown up, so I'm probably her age.

diddl · 15/10/2016 09:02

Congratulations to you both for today!

Mouikey · 15/10/2016 09:04

You go for it Love, It`s your special day. If I had a daughter and this was what she wanted to do, I would encourage her to do it not put her off. Silly mum has she no romance in her ? Congratulations & all the very best and enjoy. :o)

Toomanycats99 · 15/10/2016 17:50

Slightly it but I left my wedding reception in my dress to go to the hotel we were staying in for wedding night. That hotel itself was a wedding venue. We decided to have a drink in the bar (still in dress) and at that point two other brides came through the bar so there were 3 brides in full dress in the bar at one time!
