To wear my wedding dress to dinner?

It's my wedding day tomorrow Smile and I'm just having a fairly low key day with an afternoon tea and drinks at the venue afterwards. My husband (!) and I will then be going out for dinner on our own and I'd like to wear my wedding dress.

It's a mid calf 50s type dress so not massive but obviously bridal. Would this be a terrible plan?

My mother thinks I'm being pathetic and will look ridiculous and can't possibly do it. I'd just rather keep it on as it's my wedding day and I don't see what harm it does.

In case it makes a difference it's a small fine dining restaurant so not many people there and we're eating quite late.

Oooh - you'll be making people smile in the restaurant soon!

I wore my wedding dress at a restaurant to celebrate our 10th anniversary - felt great and lots of lovely people wished us well! Hope you've had a blast Grin

MY lovely SIL wore hers (long, silver Herve Leger style) down to breakfast and to the BBQ the next day, to the pub for a party about 3 days later and for various photo ops at local beauty spot over the next week. She looked stunning in it and certainly got her money's worth. It was last seen on her DH (dangly earrings included) when he wore it for his ice bucket challenge!

Wear it OP. You will cheer people up. Is your mum a bit jealous?

It's your wedding, your day, so do what you want. My advice is wear it while you can! I got to know a couple from overseas who were recently married and the bride happened to mention that they had brought the wedding dress with them. I asked her to put it on for us and the husband was so moved by it that he cried, saying that he hadn't seen her in it since the wedding day. Shortly afterwards they moved back home, took the dress with them in the car, and it was broken into and the dress was stolen. The bride was devastated but so grateful to me that she had at least got to have "another go" at it. Enjoy your wedding and all the best for the future

As someone who had to eat at McDonald's because of a vindictive mix up on my wedding day I say wear the dress

TutanKaDashian · 15/10/2016 20:49

Great idea OP GrinSmile

Also, I am definitely showing your post to my fiancé as this is the sort of wedding I want but he is convinced I will regret it.

R3ALLY · 15/10/2016 20:52

abigamarone · 15/10/2016 21:08

I wouldn't send champagne and probably wouldn't say anything to you, but I'd possibly be a bit excited for you and feel all warm and happy.

Portobelly · 15/10/2016 21:12

Wear it, celebrate, enjoy, revel in it.
I rather wish I could wear mine again now, three years on!
