To not want to suffer other people's cats in our own gardens??

Kione · 14/10/2016 10:46

They have peed on DP veggies, they have some acidic pee or something that killed strawberries? I do not touch anything that grows in our garden as I am pregnant. Bliming unfair.
One killed mt DD's bunny last year, bunny was about 12 weeks old. Can you imagine DD's heartbreak?? I well up just remembering.
There is one that has made his den in the front garden bushes, the grass around his den is gone and he is there all day.
Yesterday I stood on poo in my own garden.
I am seriously pissed off now!!!

Someone has trodden a minute smear of fox poo into our house. It is THE worst smell to get rid off. Am in London. Daily sightings of foxes.

Mozfan1 · 15/10/2016 08:35

Do your own sodding research. And retrain your dogs if they have undesirable behaviours. If that's too much for you maybe don't rehome in future.

Truffle the point I was making that even without racing training, greyhounds still have it in their nature as hunters due to excellent eye sight et cetera. a simple Google will tell you that. All 3 of ours have gone through re training before being re homed... But they can do whatever they fucking well please in their own garden I'm afraid. So get over it

Mozfan1 · 15/10/2016 08:36

Foxes are really cute though! I mean I've never been near one but they're very beautiful to look at. In the busy commuter town I live in it's really nice to see them out and about at weird times of day

CharlieSierra · 15/10/2016 08:37

Why do people keep going on about foxes and badgers? No one decides to own them and then let them cause problems for other people, it's completely different. You make a decision to own a cat and you make a decision to let it be a nuisance to your neighbours. They do kill birds; my new neighbour's cat killed numerous baby birds this year, I've seen it stalking them when they were newly fledged, I've seen it trying to get into the bird boxes, and I found several mangled bodies a week in my garden through the breeding season.

NotYoda · 15/10/2016 08:38

Mozfan

yes, they are beautiful- expect the poor ones with mange. But they are very destructive, and the smell is awful. We have one that deposits bones on our doorstep, balls, bits of fabric in the garden, craps on the patin and on the front path. They are perky. But I'd never hurt one

NotYoda · 15/10/2016 08:39

patio

Mozfan1 · 15/10/2016 08:41

yoda bloody hell Shock

To be fair I probably see about 10 a year, that sounds fucking dreadful. Poor little buggers/ poor you with the bones and such. What a pain in the arse

NotYoda · 15/10/2016 08:42

Charlie

Yes, that's horrible. We've rescued our cat from Battersea so it's well-looked after and not spreading diseases amongst the stray population and making more cats. She has a bell on her collar and we don't let her out at dusk or dawn, so local birds have a fighting chance. She has a litter tray so she doesn't crap in my garden, or, hopefully anyone else's Yes, cats do kill birds but they are not responsible for the reduction in bird numbers, as man from RSPB categorically said on radio last week

NotYoda · 15/10/2016 08:43

Mozfan

I still like seeing them but have I mentioned the smell?? Grin

NotYoda · 15/10/2016 08:44

BTW "perky" was pesky

Mozfan1 · 15/10/2016 08:47

Yeah animal faeces are never a good look/ smell eh

Cheby · 15/10/2016 09:05

I've read the whole thread, but I still don't understand how the rabbit was killed by a cat, if the rabbit was properly secured? I'm very sorry your pet was killed OP. But genuinely, cats can't unlock cages. Either the run was left unsecured or a person let the rabbit out.

CatMom75 · 15/10/2016 09:06

This thread is horrendous. Some vicious posts!!!! Lots of things annoy other people and I wish people would have more consideration about their decisions....

StarOther people's bratty precious darlings that are allowed to misbehave in public places
StarThe next door neighbours kid banging his ball against our wall for hours
StarThe neighbour who starts his van up and leaves it running for 15minutes before work every day
StarThe dog in the house behind us that yaps all day
StarBabies being left to cry in coffee shops when I want a civilised chat with the girls
StarPeople coming back late in taxis regularly and waking me up in the early hours
StarNeighbours with loud music / arguments / crying babies

I wish these people would all have more consideration but ultimately we all have to live in coexistence and try to be tolerant!

I don't resort to nasty/psycho hate campaigns!!! Bloody hell get a grip.

OP I hope you are the perfect neighbour/citizen as chances are something you do riles others too. A noisy baby will be coming your way soon followed by an even noisier toddler and you'll be glad of other people's tolerance. Brew

And yes I have cats, kids, I drive and love dogs.

I'm sorry about your bunny but it may or may not have been a cat. And if you saw a cat watching it and continued to leave it in an unsecured pen maybe you should consider your own blame rather than that of an animal

JacquesHammer · 15/10/2016 09:25

catmom See the thing is I try to be a good neighbour. I do none of the stuff on your list.
So it's pretty galling when next door don't give a shit their cat is damaging my house.

SuperFlyHigh · 15/10/2016 09:39

jacques if the cat is coming in through your front door or window I think that can be a sign it's looking for a new home complete with new IKEA dressing table! Wink

CatMom75 · 15/10/2016 09:45

jacques my point is no matter how much we try and be good neighbours chances are something we do narks another at some point in our existence.

It might not be something off that list but it doesn't mean you've not p'd someone off however unintentionally, unless your a saint.

My mums neighbour constantly sings badly and lets her trees grow to tall. There is always something.

Tolerance people!

Rozdeek · 15/10/2016 09:48

I have indoor cats but I genuinely don't get the aggro.

My baby's shit is more gross than the cat's.

oblada · 15/10/2016 09:51

Not read the whole thread but surprised at the link made between cats and wildlife..surely it's not the same bloody thing AT ALL?!!!

I like cats but I agree they are a pain when they belong to others and mess in my garden! Glad I have a dog to at least deter them somewhat from coming into the garden..still not 100% but hey! It's not a massive issue where I live but I can fully appreciate how some people may be well annoyed with having to deal with other people's pets. I would just use any deterrent I can, water sprays, sounds device things... It is indeed part of life but it doesn't mean it isn't a pain. I would be as annoyed with a neighbour letting their kids scream the place down at all hours/playing loud music at antisocial times and a neighbour with a cat messing my plants/veggies. It is all antisocial behaviour. May be more or less difficult to tackle for the neighbour in question. Does not make it more acceptable.

JacquesHammer · 15/10/2016 09:54

catmom really? I am supposed to tolerate my hallway carpet being wrecked by a cat I don't own?? That's not something you seriously think I should just say "oh ok then, that's what being a neighbour is"

superfly it will have to pick elsewhere. I have a DD with allergies. Not to mention I don't actually want a cat Smile

ElegantDream · 15/10/2016 09:59

ElegantDream so people who have had to go into rented accommodation for whatever reason should then give up their beloved pets to already overrun shelters just incase they shit someone's garden confused ( still don't know for sure it is even a cat).

(Ignoring the fact that when many people move into rented, mother are not allowed pets full stop)

In that situation, I would keep the cat indoors (even though I'm normally against this - circumstances must).

I think the heart of cat issues and the reason we see so many cats in a shelter is that cats are seen as the 'easy' option - the easy pet. And they're not - or shouldn't be. Pop,e think they can feed them and just let them out to do whatever (or not even feed them enough as they'll catch their food...

Actually, to keep cats properly (IMO) they need as much work as other pets. If people out time and thought into how they'll keep them, less cats might be bought on a whim.

Of course, circumstances change - that's the same for ANY pet. But if you start on the premis of thinking how you'll keep them - confined to a garden is better for your neighbours as well as keeping the cat safe from predators, poisons and cars (and cat haters...)

SuperFlyHigh · 15/10/2016 10:00

Jacques I do appreciate your cat visitor isn't welcome...

Just be unfriendly to it....

Don't kick it or anything but no, water pistol etc should work. Keep an eye for it sneaking in.

The scent of a cat by the way generally keeps rodents from the house, so it could be beneficial even hanging round your house in that sense.

LittleLionMansMummy · 15/10/2016 10:01

Our cats shit in their own garden. They're not supposed to do that are they? Anyway, I understand your annoyance op. Apparently orange or lemon peel is recommended. We also tell our neighbours to squire our cats if they're peeing in their gardens. But our road is like Cat Alley - most of them own a cat. Our immediate neighbours are dog people and in the summer their constant yapping gets tiresome, but we're all pet owners so just learn to rub along together.

LittleLionMansMummy · 15/10/2016 10:02

squirt obviously, not squire.

CatMom75 · 15/10/2016 10:11

jacques I think your situation with cats coming in your house and actually damaging property is at the more extreme end. People on this thread were advocating rat poison purely cus of poo on their lawn which may be from cats or several other animals

If one of my cats had done this (and it was 100% certain it was my cat) I would be mortified and offered to pay. If you have told your neighbour and they really don't give a shit thats a reflection on your neighbour rather than all cat owners. But I wouldn't expect anyone to try and harm my pets in retaliation.

For a cat to wreck a carpet it'd have to be there quite a while? Did you not hear it scratching? Our neighbours cats used to come in to our house before they moved. I just shoo'd him out. At least I had control over that rather than the neighbours kids which I have to grin and bear or risk being labelled a child hating witch as their mum thinks the sun shines out of all orifices Grin

water Scarer

sonic scarer
Scatter Granules
garlic granules

crytals

fence spikes

rods

These are all good in different ways - - water one is best if you have an out door tap - crystals and granules need constant topping up. It's annoying to have to pay out - there are some home made similar ones - boil cut citrus peels and spray round.
