To not want to suffer other people's cats in our own gardens??

They have peed on DP veggies, they have some acidic pee or something that killed strawberries? I do not touch anything that grows in our garden as I am pregnant. Bliming unfair.
One killed mt DD's bunny last year, bunny was about 12 weeks old. Can you imagine DD's heartbreak?? I well up just remembering.
There is one that has made his den in the front garden bushes, the grass around his den is gone and he is there all day.
Yesterday I stood on poo in my own garden.
I am seriously pissed off now!!!

I have foxes, hedgehogs, more than likely rats and mice and who knows what else visiting my garden (same when I lived in London) - it's quite possible your DP vegetables are being peed on by any number of animals.

The rabbit, I'm really sorry your bunny died that is indeed very upsetting but if it was secured in a cage be highly unlikely for a cat to get at it to kill it. I had a lovely indoor bunny who lived in a secure hutch when he wasn't out and about being supervised (my cat and him used to snuggle up next to each other, still supervised but this is far from normal) no way would my cat have been able to get into that hutch. It's more likely that a fox killed your bunny im afraid. It is your responsible as a pet owner to secure your pet, you can't expect animals not to act like animals.

You can buy for about £15 cat noise repellents, you can find them on the RSPCB site, shove them in the ground and will keep out the cats.

Kione · 14/10/2016 12:16

We live in an island and there are no foxes here.
So its cruel to keep a cat inside but not a bunny. It had a hutch with a run, the cat was lying outside bloody. If it had escaped he would've gone further. We think we know which one was it, it is eyeing up another bunny that its outside the front garden up the road.

People have to be considerate with many other things (would you keep geese in your house if you had next door neighbors?) so I don't understand why people don't consider their neighbors before getting a cat.

There is no dogshit in our road, there are a few dogs being walked and owners pick the poo.

The strawberries and other veggies where in long planter high, attached to our fence. Cats walk around that fence all the time.

Never, ever, ever would I have a cat now. We want to have another bunny but we will need to put him on a bunker by the looks of it.

We will have to spend our own money to deter them.
Now if my dog killed a neighbors cat, what would be the reaction I wonder.

Oh I don't have a dog, it was a figure of speech.

I'm with you, OP. I find it disgusting, and am sick if having to pick up cat faeces from my lawn, of having to check every time my children wish to go in the garden. Goodness knows what one of my neighbours feeds their cat, as the poo stinks beyond anything, even worse than fox poo, it makes me utterly retch and I have a v strong stomach.

Zaphodsotherhead · 14/10/2016 12:33

You could try borrowing a terrier. I've got two, and they don't bother our own cats, but any other cats sprint past our house like you've never seen.

One of my cats did get a rabbit - it was a wild one and the cat was young and we are rural so they are hunter/killers, but it's only ever happened once. We've kept rabbits and hens and the cats have never bothered with them - if the cat was bloody then there was something wrong with it, a cat will wash like nobodies business if it gets blood on it, not lie around...

ByeByeLilSebastian · 14/10/2016 12:35

Don't know if anyone's suggested it yet but I read on here male urine stops them coming in!

RatherBeRiding · 14/10/2016 12:36

A cat hating dog is the best deterrent of all. However a dog, even a neutered one, will cock its leg on everything. Bitches are better for peeing . I have two dogs with free range of the garden - never seen a cat! Grin

Kione · 14/10/2016 12:39

Sorry, I meant the bunny was lying outside bloody, not the cat.
If it had been the cat I am sure I'd be in trouble.

Kione · 14/10/2016 12:42

One of the reasons for not having a dog is the poo picking precisely. And that it would spend a good few hours alone while we are at work and 1) that would be distressing for him 2) it would annoy neighbors if he barked. Yes, we have thought of that.

Undersmile I am glad I am not the only one Hmm

YAnBU OP. Cats are a complete pain in the arse, and exist in far greater numbers than "wildlife".

It is possible to get cat proof fencing, but it is expensive and a bit unsightly.

InTheseFlipFlops · 14/10/2016 12:45

You don't like your neighbours cats, the old lady down the road loves your neighbours cats popping in for a tickle.
Who wins?

As for bunny a fox proof cage will be cat proof. I'm guessing it's size is why they go for wild over pet. Yours as a baby, would still have been small. It is unusual behaviour by a cat, I've seen many scared by pet rabbits especially the giant lops

littlepippip · 14/10/2016 12:48

I honestly think you have too much time on your hands if you're worrying about a bit of cat shit, get a life! When your baby comes you'll be surrounded by the stuff lol :)

Mozfan1 · 14/10/2016 12:53

Get a greyhound. The only dog I've seen to actually catch a cat Grin

Kione · 14/10/2016 12:57

Mozfan1 that is tempting.

No one has answer tho, would I get in trouble if my dog killed a neighbors cat? There is lots of issues here with dogs killing farm live stock.

If your dog killed cat on your property I think you would not be at fault.

TheCatsMother99 · 14/10/2016 13:18

If a dog kills a cat it isn't an offence. Cats are classed as wild animals, even if pets.

TheNaze73 · 14/10/2016 13:19

YANBU, piss in all four corners of your garden.

Shame you can't get a cat hating dog to scare them.

If you catch them shitting in your garden, return the compliment personally

SoupDragon · 14/10/2016 13:19

Depends whether your dog actually killed the cat or if people just assumed it had because someone had seen it look at a cat elsewhere.

TheCatsMother99 · 14/10/2016 13:19

Just as, if you run over a cat in a car you don't have to report it but you legally do if it's a dog.

Obviously, if you hit a cat in a car and knowingly leave it by the side of the road without helping or finding the owner you're a bastard though.

TheVirginQueen · 14/10/2016 13:20

I completey agree!!
But i was mocked, sneered at, told to get a life etc when i put up a similar thread.
i want to put down rat poison in my own garden and i suppose i cant.

Kione · 14/10/2016 13:23

What if it happens in the owners property and I just leave it there for them to pick the pieces just like I had to?
