To not want to suffer other people's cats in our own gardens??

Kione · 14/10/2016 10:46

They have peed on DP veggies, they have some acidic pee or something that killed strawberries? I do not touch anything that grows in our garden as I am pregnant. Bliming unfair.
One killed mt DD's bunny last year, bunny was about 12 weeks old. Can you imagine DD's heartbreak?? I well up just remembering.
There is one that has made his den in the front garden bushes, the grass around his den is gone and he is there all day.
Yesterday I stood on poo in my own garden.
I am seriously pissed off now!!!

But how did the cat get the bunny OP? Cats can't open cages... So bunny must have been out or cage not secured..

Cats are crafty but can't open locks!!

Mozfan1 · 14/10/2016 13:46

little my comment about getting a greyhound was lighthearted, obviously 🙄🙄🙄

SuperFlyHigh · 14/10/2016 13:47

Op don't train your dog to go for cats!!!

That's cruel and unkind.

The mere sight of a dog terrifies most cats.

DownWithThisSortaThing · 14/10/2016 13:48

Oh here we go again

What do you think should happen then? Kill all cats? They're just being cats. It annoys me when birds shit on the car but it's just one of those things.
Yes you might have to spend your own money putting (humane) devices in your garden to deter cats if you don't want them in the garden. Who else should pay for it? You probably get a lot of cats on your garden at some point, some of them might not even have owners.

Mozfan1 · 14/10/2016 13:50

Fwiw I quite like cats... My late grandmother had a big black cat with massive green eyes, very cute.

InTheseFlipFlops · 14/10/2016 13:51

If you train it to go for cats, it will probably go for bunnies too.
Water pistols (I think you can get motion sensing water squirters) are honestly your best bet.
Or move to the middle of nowhere and have no neighbours?

Kione · 14/10/2016 13:52

I think we are getting a bit lost n translation here.
I would not dream of running over anything, I constantly have to wait for those cats to move of the road when I am in my car. I have stopped and moved them safely to the side (these are the two main friendly ones).
It is not the cats I get angry with, I understand they have instincts and know no better. I just wish people would consider their neighbors before getting pets, as we have to consider their cats before getting a pet!

If you train the dog to attack living creatures, better hope it doesn't go for someone's small child.
Alternatively don't be a dick.

TheCatsMother99 · 14/10/2016 13:54

Haha Mozfan, it shows that you're an animal person, no need to justify Smile. Unfortunately it is nature that animals will go for other animals, that's life. U did what you could to try to stop cats coming in your garden but if a cat wants to ignore it all then there's nothing more you can do.

Yakitori · 14/10/2016 13:56

Get a cat yourself. A big feisty one. That will stop other cats coming in.

littlepippip · 14/10/2016 13:57

Mozfan1 I don't believe you tbh. I really hope your dogs don't attack any children.

Mozfan1 · 14/10/2016 13:57

It's hard with ex racers, you can't really train it out of them iyswim. Luckily the cat survived, I managed to prize it out of his mouth

I dread to think what the vets bills were though

toast was that aimed at me? If it was, I didn't train the greyhounds. We rescued ex racers. I am vehemently against greyhound racing. But abandoned dogs need a home.

wasonthelist · 14/10/2016 13:57

YANBU OP , but MN and the UK is full of people who will make a gazzillion excuses for any ickle wickly luvvy kitties and therefore the rest of us have to keep out traps shut and put up with it.

Kione · 14/10/2016 13:57

SuperFlyHigh no, that is my DP's idea, not mine. I get very sad thinking how scared my bunny must have been.
And this is it, I am not going to repeat all that I have said all the time.
It is comforting to see that some people do think it is an unfair situation.

PollyPerky · 14/10/2016 13:58

I am with you OP.

Am fed up the the proverbial back teeth of other people's cat shitting in my borders - it's always hidden so you end up standing in it or picking it up when you are weeding. it's just disgusting. Of course they never shit on their own doorsteps, do they?

I am surrounded by neighbours cats and have spent a fortune over the years on all kinds of deterrents from sprays to pellets to electrical devices.

I have also spent a lot of money replacing young plants that have been killed by cats digging and pooing around them.

I don't see why cats should be any different to dogs. if you own one, train it. Get a litter tray and train them from being a kitten.

All very well for the owners- they get the 'pleasure' of owning the cat and no shit in their garden.

Mozfan1 · 14/10/2016 13:58

Ok then little. You obviously have no experience with ex racing dogs that are abused and drugged for sport.

Kione · 14/10/2016 13:59

wasonthelist I imagine that is what I shall do too.

OP posts:
Mozfan1 · 14/10/2016 13:59

And little as our dogs are only allowed free on our own land and are lead collar and muzzle when out in public, they would find it very hard to attack anyone.

littlepippip · 14/10/2016 14:05

Kione your husband is a psycho if he trains one animal to attack another. Mozfan1 I'm glad to hear it! I love greyhounds (we had a rescue when I was little) I found them to be quite gentle creatures considering what they had gone through. PollyPerky we're are all fed up of dog owners letting their dogs shit everywhere and leaving dog shit bags everywhere but that's life! get over it you silly woman.

BowieFan · 14/10/2016 14:07

Our cats are rural too and have never killed a rabbit. They don't bother the dogs, the dogs don't bother them and they don't bother our chickens or any other chickens either (although it's probably because they're terrified of our Gay rooster who is always itching for a fight). All the animals round here just live in peaceful co-existence.

Mozfan1 · 14/10/2016 14:09

So what was your unecessary attack for then little if you have personal experience? They are very gentle and kind. They just don't like cats Grin

Florathefern · 14/10/2016 14:10

I agree OP.

I'm fed up with them too. I'm debating using mothballs.

Kione · 14/10/2016 14:10

Ah, its just chit chat when he finds his plants burnt and full of shit littlepippip and he wouldn't want the dog to harm the cats, just chase them out of OUR home.

OP posts:
nailslikeknives · 14/10/2016 14:10

Sonic cat deterrents, enough to cover all the areas you want. They're great!

Mistykit · 14/10/2016 14:11

Actually Polly, they do shit in their own gardens. That's why getting a cat to stop other cats from shitting in the garden doesn't always work. My 3 shit in my garden and their tray (at night). It's life and dealing with shit is a necessity when you have any type of pet.
