To make dd sell her some of her processions to pay for her phone bill?

So got dd a phone contract with 4gb data. When she hits her limit it cuts of all other services so I haven't capped her spending.
She keeps going over her data and has spent an extra £50 this month bringing her bill to £60.
So we were having a clear out and we find her old Nintendo 3ds which she never plays on. Managed to sell it on eBay for £70 but told her she has to give me £50 towards the bill . Aibu?

As far as selling something she didn't want anymore to cover the overspend and her still coming out of it £20 up, it's not really a punishment at all. There is no incentive for her not to go over it again.

Just to put into perspective about an hours worth of streaming uses up to 6gb of data.
Ask your mobile phone provider to add a 'no pass purchase' to the account. This will mean she can't add on extra data without you calling the company to do so.
Also make sure she turns off her mobile data when at home on wifi...Her handset with automatically seach for the fastest way to connect and run and often this is the mobile internet rather than home broadband.

Ok . I'm off now but thank you all for your comments. It has made me think more about Internet safety and what she's watching so I accept I need to be more vigilant with this.
Have a good day everyone

Payg sim from EE, £10 a month for 1gb data and unlimited texts. No 11 y.o. should need anymore than that, tbh.

Glad you're thinking about things OP.

As you've sold the DS, listed it, packaged and posted it, you've basically given your DD £20 and a huge data package for connecting after you told her not to and running up a big bill.

I'd also say that your DD having her head buried in a phone on public transport presumably with headphones on too if watching YouTube, isn't the best way to stay aware of what's going on around you.

I use OurPact to stop access to almost all apps between specific hours for my DD. She can always call though. I also use the restrictions option to lock down data use as much as possible. For my DD it would be accidental connecting rather than trying to get around my controls, so much easier to stop.

How do people check the YouTube history? I didn't think that was possible.

HermioneJeanGranger · 14/10/2016 11:30

If someone has an account, you can look at their viewing history, but if they're not logged in, you're screwed. Unless you can look at their browser history, of course.

Poldark, it's under the tab with the person silhouette on the iPhone app. Also available on the desktop site if you are logged into their account.

However very easy to click on the three little dots and remove something from your history if you know someone's going to be checking and you have something to hide.
