On an address with the name as say;

Mrs M E Smith
When women is called Patricia Smith
But husband is Martin Edward Smith.

Why not Mrs P Smith

There must be a fancy term for this.

My MIL does it. It sends me up the F wall. I am a person in my own right than you very much.

On a birthday card or something personal she will still write it as
Mrs M E Smith.

I think she does it because she sees son as coming from above me, and so I'm lucky to be part of her dynastey.

I am sorry to have stirred this subject back up again. I should have left it as it was in 2016.
However, I must add something before I stop following this thread.
I am not aware of any man, young or old, that thinks women are inferior to men.

Maybe I am wrong, but in my experience the majority of men are stronger than most women and normally carry out the heavy work in the household and are mainly employed where heavy lifting and manual work is expected. I do appreciate that some women train and are as physically powerful as men, but don't believe it to be the norm.
In my experience, the expression "stop acting like a woman" was said as a jovial comment to suggest that he was lacking in muscle when trying to lift or move a heavy object.

Nobody owns anyone in a civilised community.

Finally, I would like to mention that in the past, men would never swear in the presence of a woman out of respect. I now wince regularly when I hear a respectable looking woman say the crudest of swearwords in a normal conversation.
Also, swearwords were never EVER written. I notice the F#### word has been used in a number of posts in this thread.
Not just here though, on Facebook we see it all the time, and guess what, females and males are equal in this to, they are just as crude using the F and C words with equal frequency.

I know I am old fashioned. I was born in 1948 and have been married to the same lady for 50 years - and we are equal.
I put the heavy bins out and undo jars and bottle tops that she can't manage and she tells me how to cook because she is disabled and can no longer stand up long enough to prepare or cook our meals any more.

Sorry to have repeatedly used "woman" and "women", such non-feeling titles. I was frightened that "ladies", "fairer sex", "girls", or "females" may have offended someone.

Wishing you all well.
~Mike~

You sound well older than 70, Mikey boy.

Mikerg, I will probably be shouted down, but I completely agree with you - plus I just can't bring myself to swear, either verbally or written. I'm 40 and my parents are mid 70s. I was brought up quite "old fashionedly" I suppose - but there's a lot to be said for It!

You're fucking welcome.
