I don't think anyone will have also seen this, and I can't track it down online...
In the 1980s, one of those then 'new' daytime TV shows (was it the one with Anne and Nick? I think it might have been....) ran this piece about this desperate wannabe woman who wanted to be a 'star'. Pre X Factor, etc and post Opportunity Knocks, etc so I think there was no real vehicle for desperate but talentless people who longed to be on TV.
She was fairly young, had a young family. They'd even re-mortgaged their home, or summat daft, for her to have a shot at 'stardom'. Her family had begged for her to be on the show, showcasing her amazing talent.
She was a below average singer, IIRC. Totally underwhelming, as it turned out.
And we never heard of her again.
I often wonder what happened next. That cringey, desperate bid for 'fame' followed by a resounding... lack of fame. We've seen it a million times since with the sob stories on Saturday night 'talent' shows. But she was unusually needy and desperate and her family highly delusional. It was real throwaway TV.
Also, what was the morning TV show where Paul Shane was a guest and a caller rang in to say he owed him money, on live TV?
