I'm a hairdresser who is currently on Mat leave. My mum meets up with her old university friends a couple of times a year and makes a night of it. She asked at the weekend could I do her hair and four of her friends hair for Tonight. I told her no problem but I will charge her friends but not salon price ( I always do my mums for free) she asked me do I know how much it would cost. I told her without exactly knowing what they want doing I wouldn't be able to give a price. She said she thinks majority will have a wash,cut and blow and maybe an updo. I told her call it £15.00 each then if they don't have updo £10. She said that's brilliant.
Now ive just recieved a text off my mum saying how excited her and her girls are to have a "pampering" with me and such a bargain for only £30.
I am so annoyed that my mums pulled this stunt. But now she's told her friends it's £30 collectively so I'm going to look a massive twat saying no it's £15 each if you have an updo!
Would IBU to tell her to piss off
She's due at 3 o'clock and I'm half tempted not too answer the door!!

I was about to say maybe they dont want the updo but even then that would be £40. Yes call her on it or go out so you dont have to answer if she gets difficult.

YANBU, you shouldn't ever have to do 'mates rates' if you don't want. You were already doing them a favour by doing it cheaper, very bad of her to be so cheeky.

Tell her to recoup the cost of the extra discount she's decided to give, you'll have to now charge her. £30 for doing hair for 5 people is insane. Your mum is insane!

Just don't do any hair-up dos - say you haven't time.

Text back that you're looking forward to it too, and thrilled that she's upped the price per person to £30 each - how generous. If she tries to say no- it's £30 for all-, just say you quoted £15 per person :)

Text her back saying 'no mum, it's £10 each minimum and £15 each if they want an up-do. Sorry but I'm not doing it for less as it's going to take about 3 hours'

Was this a group text? Maybe double check how many people are coming. If it's only 3 people, and they're not having updos, then it is only £30 . . .

i have done all their hair at some point just not all together and normally in the salon so it's salon priced. Be about 4 hours in total if they are having updos why they are arriving at 3 and getting ready here. The bit she's put about pampering has thrown me I'm only doing their hair unless she's said I'll help with makeup and other bits

You need to tell her she is mistaken it's £15 each, don't let her walk all over you!

That's so cheeky. I'd text her back and say the price you arranged and if she still isn't going to play ball then do all of her friends hair but not your mother's hair. That should balance out the time and price issue.

Does she have form for doing things like this? That's seriously cheeky and unfair of her to put you in that position.

Don't let them get comfortable before you say 'I think my mum misunderstood the price – can I make sure everyone knows it'll be £10 each, £15 with updo?' you won't see them for dust

Make it very clear it's your mum's mistake, not yours.

omg refuse and land her in it in front of her friends. Sounds harsh but either that or she will walk over you time and again.
