Not to want my daughter's initials to be 'S.H.A.G'

I'm not a troll, I promise. I just signed up today as I need some help. My husband is completely settled on the name Sophie for our baby. Our 2 middle names, Harriet and Anya are our parents middle names which we have to use as it's family tradition. However in the order that we thought of, it would spell SHA and our surname begins with a GSad Would our daughter be teased or would it be ok?

definitely switch th middle names !
In primary school there was a lad whose initials spelled GOD, the whole school knew about it and found it hilarious, i dread to think what we would have made of SHAG :-/

Boolovessulley · 08/10/2016 12:46

Definitely swap the middle names around.

ImSoTakei · 08/10/2016 12:46

My son is an ARS. I tell him regularly 😂

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 08/10/2016 12:47

I have honestly never seen somewhere that uses every single one of a persons initials

I have. Off the top off my head I can think of 4 in my own firm. I assume it is their choice as most are 3 (if you haven't got a middle name you get allocated a random q,x,y or z)

QueenLizIII · 08/10/2016 13:01

I assume it is their choice

Quite. It isnt essential. Even embarrassing initials can be edited.

2kids2dogsnosense · 08/10/2016 13:06

Friend wanted to call baby a name whose initials that (with surname) would have spelt ARS. They swapped the Christian names, but at home and school he got called by the (preferred) middle name. I can't believe your DH is being so naive.

EreniTheFrog · 08/10/2016 13:19

I once helped my friend Tim with an official form, and learned that his actual first name was William with Timothy and Andrew as middle names. I asked him why, if his parents had wanted him known as Tim, they hadn't just given him Timothy as a first name. He rolled his eyes, and then I realised: he was William Timothy Andrew Taylor, rather than...

I was at school with someone who changed to last name as her initials were VD...Probably not as stand out today but back then it was the most oft used term

On the other side of the coin though...at OH's school their work on loose paper had to have their initials and class on the top of each sheet...he spent the whole of the first year writing SH1T which as a lad he found funny

QuietNinjaTardis · 08/10/2016 13:29

Candyocean before I married I had those initials too and yes I had the piss ripped. Not funny

BigChocFrenzy · 08/10/2016 13:30

Kids will always find out and tease.
Later in the world of employment there is at least a strong risk that all initials are automatically used, at least until / if ever that person reaches senior management level.

Why would you take an unnecessary risk with your DC's happiness ?

Pro: You DH gets to choose all 3 names & the order they come Confused
Con: Your DC may have years of teasing & bullying

Balance DH ego vs DC happiness.

At university there were two girls on my course with the same first name and surname. When they gave out email addresses one got, for instance, [email protected] the other got her full initials instead which were [email protected] I think she eventually had her email altered but it wasn't without hassle and great ribbing.

My aunt's initials are VD which has caused many sniggers. Do what you can to avoid such an unnecessary situation.

Not always. I can't edit out my second (not embarrassing but just can't be bothered with it) middle name on my practising certificate or Law Society entry.

Official correspondence from the Law Society is "LWT DelicateAir" although in most things I'm LW DelicateAir.

Pensions, tax, National Insurance , passports will use full names/ initials

Purplebluebird · 08/10/2016 13:52

No way would I let my daughter or son's initials be SHAG! They will be used at some point or other, and it won't be that amusing for her...

QueenLizIII · 08/10/2016 13:58

yes you can Confused

Are you actually joking?

I had the same with mine. I didnt want all of my names on it. You login to MySRA and amend the details. You can add language skills, practice areas, etc.

Some of my practicing certificates have different names as i amended my details.

QueenLizIII · 08/10/2016 13:59

When I amended my details at MySRA it had a knock on effect on the Law Society roll which also changed online as they get their name details from the PCs.

ZuleikaDobson · 08/10/2016 14:03

A great many offices use initials as references, and if two people have the same initials they use the middle ones as well. Often it gets programmed into computerised systems. Who wants to have to explain to sniggering IT bods exactly why they'd rather they didn't use their middle initials?

OlennasWimple · 08/10/2016 14:09

I just don't get why anyone would knowingly inflict this sort of thing on their DC when there is a simple solution Confused

QueenLizIII · 08/10/2016 14:11

The one thing I dont get is what about other DC?

Supposing they have another girl? They have used all the names.

A friend of mine has this. His name is Alexander Edward Peter.....middle names after relatives.

then they had another boy!!!! Then called his brother one of the middle names as first name, etc.

English site ?

Everything on mine has my full name. You can add skills, language. I can't just log on and change my name. The Law Society of Scotland recently issued electronic ID cards , mine had to have the full name which matches all my other official documents.

QueenLizIII · 08/10/2016 14:16

Ah you didnt say you were a Scottish lawyer.

You can amend loads on the English SRA website.

Jengnr · 08/10/2016 14:36

There is no way it won't get picked up on.

I was set on Rose as a middle name for our daughter. Our surname begins with S so it automatically ruled out all A names.

Not checking these things is cruel in my book.

whirlwinds · 08/10/2016 14:44

We checked this as well and ds name doesn't spell anything in any way or form. Charlotte is lovely ☺

19lottie82 · 08/10/2016 14:48

Just don't. She will just end up dropping the middle names when she's old enough anyway.

I had the initials CAC when I was younger and that was bad enough!

RaspberryOverloadTheFirst · 08/10/2016 14:54

Another thing I was thinking earlier, is that just because one parent has a family tradition regarding middle names, it doesn't mean the other parent can't over-rule the tradition.

Names should be an agreement between the parents.

EasternDailyStress · 08/10/2016 14:56

I don't think it will make any difference if you swap them around TBH.

Had a schoolfriend whose initials were SHT and she was known as Shitty throughout her school years. Just saying.
