Not to want my daughter's initials to be 'S.H.A.G'

I'm not a troll, I promise. I just signed up today as I need some help. My husband is completely settled on the name Sophie for our baby. Our 2 middle names, Harriet and Anya are our parents middle names which we have to use as it's family tradition. However in the order that we thought of, it would spell SHA and our surname begins with a GSad Would our daughter be teased or would it be ok?

I've been known by my initials ever since I became a lawyer, even outside of work, so I'm acutely aware of it. We added a middle name so that my son's initials aren't BUM! I'm just hoping the second middle name is used regularly...

My daughter was going to have the initials SEKS. We quickly changed it around as it was a phonetic disaster! You cannot do this to your child!

OMG. I am 46 and I've just realised that my initials before I got married were FML Blush

I am just thinking of the future....what if she marries someone with a surname starting with T!

My ex husband's (grown up) daughter's initials we CALF. I did make a joke once about it being 'a little cow' ..... I wasn't very popular Grin

As a secondary school teacher my classes all had my initials on their timetable - after I got married that meant they had history (my subject) and NAP - it provoked quite a lot of comment, I can only imagine the 'fun' the initials you're suggesting would create!

missymousey · 10/10/2016 20:47

Nobody ever notices initials that includes middle names
Mine spell RARO - which is fine but kids at school pointed out raro means weird in spanish and there were "weirdo" comments for ages. Kids notice everything. Of course people will notice SHAG, please don't do it!

Do you even like Sophie? You say your DH is set on these names... how come he gets to decide?

StayClassyStaySassy · 10/10/2016 21:24

Foot firmly down!

ArchibaldsDaddy · 10/10/2016 23:54

Absolutely do not do it....unless you want her to get bullied and laughed at (which I presume you don't).

elh1605 · 11/10/2016 05:57

When a friend was pregnant me and her deliberately went through possible names to make sure the initials didn't make anything rude or unkind for the baby. I've learnt over the years through working with kids they can be cruel and unfortunately from personal experience when I was a child so can parents.

Someone on another thread has I think now rejected making an ASS of her DD. MN baby names threads may seem like trivia but they can perform a valuable public service

Idratherbeaunicorn · 11/10/2016 09:37

We have the same issue - the names we like mean our babies initials may well be S.M.E.G....
How often do people actually write down their full initials? The child will only really be known by their first name / surname...

Baileysagain · 11/10/2016 12:53

I don't think you can have SHAG or SAHG, people will still read it as shag, I think you need to completely rethink it. Children and adults take a lot of notice of things like that, I remember one girl as being called Sap even though I can't remember her actual first name.
