To ask if you think 6 fish fingers is too many for a 3 year old boy to have for dinner?

along with half a 400g run of baked beans and chips.

Need to settle an arguement.

Cheers

6 Shock

Yes, far too many.

My 14 year old sport-every-day son would only eat 4.

Emus · 04/10/2016 20:05

My 3.5 year old would eat 1, maybe two at a push with either 1-2 mini waffles or a handful of chips and some veg. He's not a massive eater though but I would definitely think that 6 is too much for a 3 year old.

tametempo · 04/10/2016 20:05

3-4 fishfingers for my DC.
Who on earth can manage a whole large tin of beans to themselves?

tametempo · 04/10/2016 20:06

Oops just read it's half a tin. Still on the large side for a 3 year old.

ThursdayLastWeek · 04/10/2016 20:07

I dunno, my 3.6year old tonight had 4 fish fingers, two handfuls of pasta and a handful of veg. He's always been a good eater and is slim on a large frame (well for a 3yo Grin).

So that's not that dissimilar to what you're describing, so I'm loathe to pass judgement.

PickAChew · 04/10/2016 20:07

I like a generous portion of protein but 6 fish fingers is even one two many for me. My 10 year old has 4.

WaitrosePigeon · 04/10/2016 20:07

That's too much food and you must know that Confused

PickAChew · 04/10/2016 20:08

one too many

Stupid fingers clearly need more omega 3.

heatherwithapee · 04/10/2016 20:08

Gosh yes! DD is 6 and only has 2!

PikachuBoo · 04/10/2016 20:08

Mine loved fish fingers when they were little and from about the age could eat 4 or 5. Whippet thin and healthy, as part of a healthy balanced diet. But they were given about six chips and quarter tin baked beans or some peas. It was a weekly meal.

ChasedByBees · 04/10/2016 20:09

Yes far too much.

Sirzy · 04/10/2016 20:09

Yes that's a lot.

If that is a normal portion size for the child I would be worried about the quantities of food being encouraged.

soundsystem · 04/10/2016 20:09

Agree with PP's that's way too much food. I don't know anyone - child or adult - who would eat fish fingers. For a 3-year-old two would be a normal portion, I'd think.

AverageGayLadAtChristmas · 04/10/2016 20:10

I couldn't manage 4 never mind knowing any 3 year olds that could put away 6!!

Oysterbabe · 04/10/2016 20:10

So come on then, who feeds their kids that?

Fatbridesmaid · 04/10/2016 20:11

😮😮😮😮 way too much!
My 3 year old would have 2 with mash and 2 tbsp beans

lucy101101 · 04/10/2016 20:11

I am rather shocked at this, My 2 year old will eat around 3 and my 5 year old around 5... but neither are fat. I tend to serve them with half a small baked potato and broccoli though so perhaps they would eat less if they had chips and baked beans. They actually would probably eat more fish fingers if I let them!

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/10/2016 20:12

Yes, way too much.

I wouldn't have 6, and nor would my DS's (age 14 and 12). In fact DH wouldn't either (if he liked them Grin )

atticusclaw2 · 04/10/2016 20:12

My 9 year old would eat 6. At 3 he would probably have eaten 3 maybe 4

Figgygal · 04/10/2016 20:13

Yup my 4 almost 5 year old would have 3, a third of a small tin of beans and chips/other potato product

Purplebluebird · 04/10/2016 20:13

My 2,5 year old gets 3 fish fingers (and can easily finish them) alongside chips etc. Today I made proper homemade fish fingers from scratch, gave him 3 and he ate 1/2. Sigh.

So 6 is twice as much as I would give.

redexpat · 04/10/2016 20:15

Depends what he eats the rest of the week. DS will sometimes eat 10 potatoes one day and then almost nothing the next day. I think of his intake per week rather than per day.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/10/2016 20:15

Bloody hell, 2/possibly 3 and a quarter tin of beans is more than enough.
This is the problem, we overfeed our kids. Portion control is non existant. A packet of ten fish fingers feeds me, DH and DD (12), easily with a tin of beans and oven chips (on occasion 😋).

atticusclaw2 · 04/10/2016 20:15

But at 9 he would only have a few chips with his 5/6 fish fingers and about quarter of a tin of baked beans. At age 3 he would probably have had about 4 chips and a tablespoon of beans with the 3 fish fingers.

Purplebluebird · 04/10/2016 20:15

Adding to say he wouldn't normally have a lot of chips/mash, if he eats all the fish... He's only little, and very slim.
