Oh my friggin god it's cold. Feels like Antarctica in here. Honestly, think Olaf my new tenant!

Kids room monitor says 21 DC? Surely that's incorrect. I mean, I can't be that old that I'm feeling the cold already?

Please tell me others have the heating on in these subzero (OK, slight exaggeration there) temperatures that is the north today? Grin

I feel bad putting it on during the day when I'm here on my own. It's a waste of resources and money.

BursarsFrogs · 04/10/2016 09:21

I'm not really cold but I'm paranoid about damp, so the heating goes on for at least a little while in the mornings whenever it's wet or damp.

bumblefeline · 04/10/2016 09:23

My heating has never been off, if it goes below the temp on the thermostat it will come on.

SaucyJack · 04/10/2016 09:24

No heating here yet, but we have started shutting the windows in the evening now it's got a bit chillier.

KayTee87 · 04/10/2016 09:30

We're in Scotland, heating has been going on the past week but only because we have a baby. Our bedroom gets down to around 14/15 and I would just put on another layer - can't freeze the baby though Grin
I find the house warm at around 17/18 - probably something wrong with me.

We put it on when were cold - so on at 4.30 in morning so it's warm for those getting up early / for work, I've just got up and it's cold so have put it on. Out a lot of the day so prob won't be on much them but usually on in the evening too. I'm sorry to say that global warning doesn't feature in any decision to put on the heating - if I'm cold it's going on. Lucky we can afford it, but if we couldn't that's what'd be stopping us not ant conscience. Winter draws on!

Notso · 04/10/2016 09:38

No, it's lovely weather. No cold but sunny and fresh. There were people in coats and scarves on the yard yesterday, I had flip flops and a t-shirt.

5minutestobed · 04/10/2016 09:40

Our thermostat is set to 20 and its not come on yet. 23 degrees in here apparently. We usually leave it off until Nov. In Edinburgh, new build flat though and its like a greenhouse in here.

RainbowDashian · 04/10/2016 09:47

I have mine set to come on if it drops below 14 degrees overnight (which it never does in this house) and 18 during the day. It clicked on this morning but only for about half an hour.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 04/10/2016 09:48

This thread is making me jealous!

I'm currently waiting for the engineer to turn up to repair my boiler. We've had no hot water or heating for 48 hours & I'm freezing!

Midlands.

CheshireChat · 04/10/2016 10:56

I'm in Hull and I'm currently freezing! Unfortunately cost is an issue so I'm holding out for a while longer as luckily house warms up from the sun. Neither 2 year old DS nor DP seem to be bothered though and are happy in short sleeves Confused.

ineedwine99 · 04/10/2016 10:58

I'm in York and now have mine on in the morning, maybe a little blast in the evening depending how cool the house feels.

SaggyNaggy · 04/10/2016 11:04

cheshirechat
I'm just across the bridge and its lovely and sunny here this morning. Bit of a wind out there mind. Still no heating for us.

TheJWoman · 04/10/2016 13:59

We have a boiler that a plumber has informed us is fucking ancient past it, but we can't afford to get it replaced. No timer, no thermostat - on or off are your choices. It's been a lovely 19 degrees today and DH suggested we put it on. Hmm I'm sure if it was June rather than October he'd be revelling in the lovely warm weather.

Smoogi · 04/10/2016 14:16

Aircon on, here in Dubai.
still v warm here....

BaronessEllaSaturday · 04/10/2016 14:26

North West here and although the heating isn't on yet I am lighting the fires during the day.

whyayepetal · 04/10/2016 14:37

Heating is coming on here, and my thermostat is set at 19 degrees. Just got to the stage where it is feeling chilly in the mornings and evenings.

Dawndonnaagain · 04/10/2016 14:43

Getting chilly here in the evenings. Can't work out how much it would cost to put the gas fire on for an hour.

CheshireChat · 04/10/2016 15:25

SaggyNaggy Waves back! I'm still cold, child is happy and warm.

ginghamstarfish · 04/10/2016 18:46

Scotland here - we put it on at the weekend for the first time since May. We discovered a clever thing last winter - read it somewhere, by a heating engineer. You'd have to look it up as DH is not here to verify - but I think you put the boiler temp low, radiator thermostats to max, and leave it on all the time. We have it set to about 17-18 degrees and it's fine for us. The rads are barely warm to touch but the house is comfortably warm. DH did lots of readings last winter and said it used only a tiny bit more gas than the previous system of coming on in the morning, off at night but It's a lot better like this, as it's an old house and cools down quickly.

VerbenaGirl · 04/10/2016 19:14

I think I may have hit the menopause, as this is the first time I've every got this far without giving in and putting the heating on! DH likes to push on through to November.

Cary2012 · 04/10/2016 19:51

Got a wood burner, rarely need the heating. Usually gets lit around Halloween, love it!

Mild here but mornings a bit fresh - Norfolk.

Hulababy · 04/10/2016 19:53

Ours has been on a few times recently. We never actually turn it off, we just have it on the thermostat, and it comes on if the house gets colder.

I have turned the thermostat up tonight though - have a young Spanish boy coming for an exchange visit for a week - its really warm over there at the moment, and cod here. Thought Id make the house a bit warmer for him.

BuggersMuddle · 04/10/2016 20:27

I don't understand this obsession with dates.

We have a modern-ish combi boiler and a thermostat. Hot water when we want it, heating when it's needed as defined by the thermostat & when we tend to be in, not whether or not it's November yet!

We're in Scotland and it's been kicking in in the morning for a few weeks now. It's coming on in the evening too now, but not full blast.
