to object to a slim fast soup promotional pack being put in dd's tray at nursery

it is all trendy packaging and says something along the lines of 'yummy soup in your tummy makes you a yummy mummy' barf!

i object to this on so many levels!

1 - exposing dd aged 3 to the diet industry (ok she probably hasn't a clue but this is my high horse)
2 - using my childs tray as a marketing device.
3 - the phrase yummy mummy
4 - slim fast is evil.

WEll out of order FFS

harpsichordcarrier · 06/02/2007 11:43

WHAAAAAAAAAATTTTTT?????!!!!!
that's is a bloody disgrace

hana · 06/02/2007 11:43

they prob will have paid to have them sent out through the children]
we get a fair few from nursery ( or did when dd was there) I used to just chuck them - dd was completely unaware

SherlockLGJ · 06/02/2007 11:44

I would go ballistic.

itsmeNDP · 06/02/2007 11:44

pesme, I am with you all the way.

oliveoil · 06/02/2007 11:44

wouldn't bother me tbh

I would just put it in the bin and assume that the playgroup would have received much needed money for doing it

pesme · 06/02/2007 11:45

its not a playgroup it is a private nursery.

That's appalling. I don't agree with marketing things through schools anyway (we have had various leaflets about Yamaha music courses and Tai Kwondo classes etc.) but that is totally inappropriate. I would complain - in no uncertain terms (are there any other parents who feel the same - you can go in mob handed, so to speak?)

oliveoil · 06/02/2007 11:46

either or

it really wouldn't bother me!

pesme · 06/02/2007 11:47

i am not going to complain but it just annoyed me.

OP posts:
hana · 06/02/2007 11:47

but how is it any different than the rubbish that comes through the front door? It prob gives them much needed funds.

pesme · 06/02/2007 11:49

for me it is different cos the dieting industry is so cynical. mothers of young children are sitting ducks for this sort of 'yummy mummy' guilt crap.

OP posts:
DimpledThighs · 06/02/2007 11:54

I would complain. Not fair to use your daughter as an advertising outlet to get to you.

Mothers have a tough time as it i without nursertys nagging them about their diet!

DimpledThighs · 06/02/2007 11:55

also I do not think slim fast consititutes healthy eating in any way - and by tht alone it should be kept away from children in all forms - even advertising.

EnidLloydFoxe · 06/02/2007 11:56

I would be cross

but wouldnt say anything

I may have written to slimfast

or asked teh nusrey what they were goign to use the money for

scotlou · 06/02/2007 11:58

We've had that. Didn't bother me - just chucked the Slimfast smoothie in the bin.

Lucycat · 06/02/2007 13:50

We had a huge box put outside dd's nursery for anyone to take - everyone was looking at the 'free' sign with interest then saying urgh when they realised what they were

they are all still there, ready for the bins tomorrow!

i wouldn't have liked it to be given out though.

Heathcliffscathy · 06/02/2007 13:51

It is outrageous and I would hit the roof.

foundintranslation · 06/02/2007 13:54

WTF?
I would spontaneously combust with rage, I think.

HuwEdwards · 06/02/2007 13:54

oh yes, we had this - I just chucked it and thought no more of it.

sunnywong · 06/02/2007 13:55

I would be incandescent with rage

Marina · 06/02/2007 13:58

I would definitely take my concerns to the Nursery Manager about this.
IME it could be a policy that is imposed by head office and about which they are not happy either. A well-worded complaint from a parent might be giving them the ammo to decline this sort of rubbish in future.

wartywarthog · 06/02/2007 14:29

disgusting. i would complain.

NurseryDays · 06/02/2007 18:37

Hi
I am new on here but I work in a nursery and we also got sent this promotional soup from slimfast. We DID NOT get paid for giving it to parents or carers. We did feel awkward handing it to parents so labelled up the box and let people help them selves if they wanted some. The remainder went in the bin but I do hate throwing things away, I know one mum took loads of packs for her sister who is on slimfast anyway so it saved her a packet. please dont assume we do anything to make a quick buck and use your children for advertising. We literally get sent these items and it is easier for us to offer them to parents/carers than return them and it is wasteful to throw them away. We had packets of baby wipes before and everyone was very accepting. I can understand the worry with dieting around young children but who can honestly say that there under 5 year old knew what was in the packet.
Regards
Patty

BassMama · 06/02/2007 18:44

What are they trying to say - that mothers will be most likely candidates for slim fast?!

Tell ye i dont need any of your slim fast crap and if i got that in my DS nursery tray i'd be appaled too.

The longer children can be kept oblivious to dieting the better. Anorexia in primiary kids is rife these days and its things like that, companies that 'promote' their slimming sh*te that does nothing to help the cause.

I'm all for dieting and weight loss programs for people who waqnt to lose weight, but surely this is not the way to go about promoting, shamelessly through little children?
