to object to a slim fast soup promotional pack being put in dd's tray at nursery

it is all trendy packaging and says something along the lines of 'yummy soup in your tummy makes you a yummy mummy' barf!

i object to this on so many levels!

1 - exposing dd aged 3 to the diet industry (ok she probably hasn't a clue but this is my high horse)
2 - using my childs tray as a marketing device.
3 - the phrase yummy mummy
4 - slim fast is evil.

We got a massive box of these at nursery the other day and my manager went round dishing them all out to the staff. Nobody wanted them so they sat in the cupboard for a bit until my manager said to offer them to the parents. I don't know whether the nursery had to pay anything towards them. I'm assuming it was a promotional thing being the new(ish) year and all.

I don't blame you for being offended tbh. I was pretty pissed off at being offered one (being that bit bigger than my colleagues - thought they were trying to tell me something ) and when I was told to offer them to the parents my initial reaction was that if I was offended, then they would be offended too.

Needless to say the bloody things went in the bin

nappyaddict · 07/02/2007 02:35

i don't see the problem. if you want some you take some. if you don't you leave it where it is. big whoop.

WWWCampbellBlack · 07/02/2007 07:21

I'm with greensleeves and hunker on this. Agree, no-one's offered a good argument other than 'bin it' or 'it's just soup'

mythumbelinas · 07/02/2007 09:36

I don't agree with it, never said i did, but i still don't think it's a 'huge ' deal. I wouldn't take it, that's all.

oliveoil · 07/02/2007 09:41

HA!

I just knew that this one would kick off, classic MN.

hana · 07/02/2007 10:09

what a disgusting thing to say to someone (Greensleeves to Patty a while back)
regardless of what the argument is

EnidLloydFoxe · 07/02/2007 10:12

"I wasn't comparing Slimfast to the arms industry"

lol

love it

Cappuccino · 07/02/2007 10:12

lol Olive

it does have that about it

I can't believe it's still going on this morning to be honest

oliveoil · 07/02/2007 10:14

I am starting to think that I am a bit odd as I really don't get het up about anything at all that has everyone else up in arms

I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I would complain about, or rant.

bundle · 07/02/2007 10:15

we were sent these at nursery too, can't get worked up about it tbh but didn't bring it home

maisym · 07/02/2007 10:16

what rubbish - tell the nursery to not give your kids any c**p like this to take home anymore.

mythumbelinas · 07/02/2007 10:17

oliveoil, i'm not all 'hot and bothered' about it either .. thought it was a good debate .. i don't get conversation like this with my dd2

grouchyoscar · 07/02/2007 10:27

I agree to be annoyed by this...regardless of the marketing issue have you seen the ingredients. I bet there's hydrogenated fats and aspartame in them

Shout scream and stamp feet with my blessing

'have you seen the ingredients. I bet there's hydrogenated fats and aspartame in them'

Obviously you've not seen the ingredients either. there's milk and sugar. and some more sugar. I'm not saying that a) I've ever had one or b) I ever would

but let's dignify the debate a little by not just guessing what they're made of; they could have been made of powdered spinach or printing ink for all you knew

grouchyoscar · 07/02/2007 10:47

Apologies....no I haven't...See 'Slimfat' and read 'Avoid like the plague'

I would object to processed branded food tho and stand by that

AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 12:23

just milk and sugar in a soup?

Cappuccino · 07/02/2007 12:27

sorry no you're right that was a shake, I realised after I'd left the house

the soups are made of coriander and glue

snowleopard · 07/02/2007 12:28

My nursery gives these to us in a bag to take home at the end of the day, so the children don't see them. It must be some evil marketing ploy based on the theory "mums of toddlers are fat and miserable" - thanmks SlimFast. I hope the nursery are making some dosh out of you while your revolting low fat (and yet ridiculously high in sugar, you morons, and with no fewer calories than a nice piece of shortbread) "snack" bars fly straight into my bin.

snowleopard · 07/02/2007 12:30

I once saw the ingredients on some kind of slimming soup (possibly slimfast or some other make) - it was broccoli and something or other soup. The brocolli count was 3%! Doh! Why not just eat some brocolli?

AitchTwoOh · 07/02/2007 14:07

further down the thread it says that the nursery aren't making a penny. can't understand why they go along with it myself, if that's the case.

snowleopard · 07/02/2007 16:08

How odd. Maybe they get free Slimfast stuff themselves? (Joy!)
