to object to a slim fast soup promotional pack being put in dd's tray at nursery

it is all trendy packaging and says something along the lines of 'yummy soup in your tummy makes you a yummy mummy' barf!

i object to this on so many levels!

1 - exposing dd aged 3 to the diet industry (ok she probably hasn't a clue but this is my high horse)
2 - using my childs tray as a marketing device.
3 - the phrase yummy mummy
4 - slim fast is evil.

I agree Patty didn't deserve the comments, however I dsend my child (or rahter did) to nursery for her enjoyment, socialisation etc. I don't expect to be bombarded with marketing cr*p. And at 3 my daughter was fully aware and questioned everything so would want to know all about what this soup was etc.

WWWCampbellBlack · 06/02/2007 22:58

lol

crystalpony · 06/02/2007 22:58

No, thisisdavina, not at you, at everyone have an inexplicable episode over soup!!

WWWCampbellBlack · 06/02/2007 22:58

My dd is 3 and most certainly would ask about anytihng sent home from her nursery.

thisisdavina · 06/02/2007 22:59

Thanks Crystal (just checking)
fancy some soup?

hunkermunker · 06/02/2007 23:00

DS1 is 2.10 and if told it was soup, he would want to eat some.

moondog · 06/02/2007 23:00

mmm,Davin a I don't think so.
It is really weird and insidious targetting nurseries like this.
Is there nowhere where we are safe from advertising?
Fucking hell, even on a plane those little screens come down and advertise to you in mid flight.
Piss offf!!

i did ask the owner but she seemed unsure as to why they had come.I assumed it was a wrong address.

Cappuccino · 06/02/2007 23:01

hunker yes, diet products, fine

a lot of mums use them

let's get off the Quinoa Bus for five minutes and accept that to a lot of mums, this is a product that they will find a use for and be happy to get for free

it's already been said that someone took a load for their sister

I wouldn't drink it but like I said, we're all grown ups and we can choose to decide which marketing to respond to

crystalpony · 06/02/2007 23:01

Yes please, thisisdavina, can I have a delicious, nutritious shake for afters too??!!

WWWCampbellBlack · 06/02/2007 23:02

I agree moondog
They must have got a list from Ofsted and sent packs to them all.
Except mine. Marvellous!

Cappuccino · 06/02/2007 23:03

if this had happened to me, and dd had asked about it, I would have said 'It's just some information about something but we don't need it' and put it in the bin

hunkermunker · 06/02/2007 23:03

I'm not on the Quinoa Bus, Capp.

You vetoed alcohol, but diet products are OK?

Lots of mums drink alcohol too - why isn't that OK?

moondog · 06/02/2007 23:03

Am staggered that people seem to believe these companies are being kind and helpful.

Wake up and smell the cawfeee!

Oati · 06/02/2007 23:05

are they doing free coffee next time then? Nescafe I presume

crystalpony · 06/02/2007 23:05

I don't think anybody's naive enough to think they're being helpful...but like any product, take it or leave it..

mythumbelinas · 06/02/2007 23:05

My dd2 who is 3 loves soup too, but then i would just tell her it is 'plastic' stuff and not good for you ..
You have a lot of control over your child's eating habits and what they eat .. and educating them.

thisisdavina · 06/02/2007 23:05

Moondog, I hate to state the obvious, but you are a very regular user of a parenting forum that relies on advertsing for it's survival. It's all around us.

I am not currently in the market for a new car so have chosen not to click on the Mitsubishi advert currently displayed to right of this page. That is my choice surely!

Anyway, This is Davina, Please do not Swear!

ComeOVeneer · 06/02/2007 23:05

I just find it a very distasteful avenue for marketing, whatever the product.

Cappuccino · 06/02/2007 23:06

I think from my dim memory of someone I worked with years ago sending off a sponsorship proposal to Bass for a children's event as it would target the 'drinkers of tomorrow' (cannot believe he was that dim but it was interesting to watch it ride out ), alcohol companies make quite a point of not being associated with children so as to be completely above reproach when it comes to teenage drinking

so I doubt it would happen. that's all.

but if it did, I'd drink it

WWWCampbellBlack · 06/02/2007 23:07

I;m also not on any quinoa bus, are you all on a crap products bus then? Gosh, not nice is it when someone gets insulting rather than just discusses why they hold an opposing viewpoint?
and my dd would STILL have wanted to know 'what it it, why did nursery give it to you, why don't you want it, why's it in the bin etc etc etc
not that I can't cope with it but why should I have to? I PAY them for looking after dd, not sending me crap I don't need and have to chuck while being asked endless questions.

moondog · 06/02/2007 23:07

Davina,this is my choice.
As Greeny says, using nurseries as a conduit is dodgy to say the least.

mythumbelinas · 06/02/2007 23:08

Marketing is a ruthless industry. It's everywhere.

moondog · 06/02/2007 23:08

lol at the quinoa bus.,
Anyone got a timetable?
I'd love a ride.

crystalpony · 06/02/2007 23:08

Probably just ask them to leave you out of any further freebie distribution then? Job done.

WWWCampbellBlack · 06/02/2007 23:10

but thisisdavina, if this was a site for children then the rules re ads would be different. But it isn't so I don't thinik your point applies. And some people wouldn't want their kids on any site if it carried inappropriate ads. Or do you think it's fine to advertise to children too?
