To notice a new brand of 'cool wives' on mumsnet

They are not 'cool wives' in the original sense, I.e. because they let dh go drinking with leggy blondes on a school night and rock into bed hammered at 2am.... but they are so damn competent as mothers that they are fine for dh to go away for a week without notice leaving them with five under 5s, cook dinner every night while simultaneously batheing the children with a baby in a sling breastfeeding etc etc.
Is it just me that has noticed this new trend of 'I can manage it blindfold, stop complaining op and suck it up'??

WomanActually don't worry I didn't think you were ignoring me Smile

I agree with what your saying but AIBU is full of that type of thing across every subject, it is not a place I would go for support. I don't think there was a need for the OP to pick on this particular subject and use the cool wife label. It's one which grates with me.

Do people actually peel tomatoes and reduce them? Wow. That's a complete waste of time and effort very impressive!

Notso · 30/09/2016 16:42

Blush I am doing that tonight for the kids dinner ItShouldOfBeenJess. PIL give us a couple of tomato plants every year and none of us eat the big ones raw. It's not as time consuming as you would think, I either roast them or pour boiling water on them.

My mum and also fil have allotments so I have tomatoes coming out my arse sometimes, I feel bad wasting them so have in the past reduced them and freeze the sauce. I wait til they go softish and they peel loads easier. More often than not though they go in a big bowl with loads of hard boiled eggs (another thing pil gives me loads of) and I mash them together and live on egg and tomatoes, sandwiches for lunch or with a jacket potatoe or pasta for dinner.

Fresh beetroot makes my heart sink though, fucking hate cooking the stuff, it stinks and it's messy. Only dh likes it so he gets that job.

It's the snozzcumbers cucumbers from PILs allotment that get to me. They are horrible, spiky, soft and seedy.

karma don't forget you also have to mill your own flour to make the pasta from scratch too Grin

Don't forget to farm and harvest the wheat in the first place though...
