Really BBC ? Such a dramatic way of reporting on the BBC News page over a TV programme but then the story is Pro BBC sooooo....

OP posts:

Not surprised. Mary is already in her 80's and with a year's gap in GBBO she will be nearer her mid 80's. she doesn't need the money or the fame: she has a 60yr career behind her. Can't say I love PH, but to be fair to him he is still making his career and has probably been offered a stonking deal by C4 and the promise of other shows. For me, only Delia could possibly replace Mary and she wouldn't take any nonsense from PH.

Yes love Breadexit and Baking News!

DoYouRememberJustinBobby · 22/09/2016 11:19

Sweet Lord of Loaves, imagine if they get James Martin involved? He's a steak bake salesman for a supermarket isn't he? No, just no.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 22/09/2016 11:19

I disliked Candice at the start, then got used to her and didn't mind her so much, but last night she irritated me greatly.

raisedbyguineapigs · 22/09/2016 11:19

Exactly Looby I doubt either he or Love Productions for that matter give a fuck what happens after the 3 years is over. Hell be paying off his mortgage and advertising bread makers before you know it, and the producers at Love will be rolling around in their share of £75million. They never have to make a programme again if they don't want to. They can tick over churning out lazy crap like Naked wrestling or whatever until the end of time. Channel 4 are the major losers here.

Cherryskypie · 22/09/2016 11:20

'How anyone can slate Paul for this I'll never know ... he'll just roll around on a bed full of money whilst MN go into meltdown over it smile'

With who?

Dancergirl · 22/09/2016 11:22

Stop pouting Candice! Bloody annoying.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 22/09/2016 11:23

The BBC aught to be damn well ashamed of themselves calling this non event breaking fucking news.
Angry

Dancergirl · 22/09/2016 11:23

Can't stand Paul Hollywod - much too smug. Love Mary though. I've been using her cookbooks long before she was famous. Will miss her.

viques · 22/09/2016 11:24

well done Mary.

I do hope the rumours about Jo Brand are wrong, I thought she was one of the ones with integrity . I would not want to see Nadya presenting it either, her recent series on Bangladesh showed that she is a natural, she deserves more than being the straight guy to Hollywoods smut.

Maybe they could offer it to Len Goodman, I hear he will shortly be at a loose end and kneads the dough. Or what about Ola and James? Hollywood would love giving her the eye, she could do a calendar of skimpy aprons and James would have the opportunity to prove once and for all that he is a lout whose mediocre talent once lay in his feet but has since been pared away with his toenails.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 22/09/2016 11:24

C. Grin. Baking news.

Liiinoo · 22/09/2016 11:32

All this talk of greed seems a bit harsh.

The production company have developed a very good product. Of course they are going to sell it to the highest bidder. Why on earth would they take less?

And PH is a youngish man who needs a job and an income. Why should he be unemployed because the BBC underbid on the show?

loobyloo1234 · 22/09/2016 11:34

Knowing Ch4 ... the contestants will be baking cakes in the nude Grin

raisedbyguineapigs · 22/09/2016 11:36

They didn't underbid. They offered 3x the previous amount. The production company demanded a ridiculous sum of money that comes from licence fee payers and Channel 4 were stupid enough to pay it, in the hope that it would be recouped through advertising.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 22/09/2016 11:41

Can't stand Paul Hollywood, he's so far up his doughy arse it's ridiculous.

GabsAlot · 22/09/2016 11:53

dont get the jo brand thing-she has no loylaties to bbc shes worked for channel four load sof times

Elendon · 22/09/2016 11:55

So enjoyed last nights show with my daughter. We sit down and drool at the lovely recipes. (Val, what were you thinking! - so sad to see you go). And at the end we both just said that it was so sad that this would be the last of the series.

We won't be watching it on Channel 4.

My prediction is that it will be Paul and Candice. I think she will win. Nadia too. Good luck to them. Forever stuck on daytime tv.

But the whole premise of the show is that it is without the adverts.

JudyCoolibar · 22/09/2016 11:56

I like Jo Brand, but I can't see that it would work with her as a presenter. Her style is naturally slightly acerbic, and you can't really see her giving moral support to someone who's burst into tears. I also think the balance will be all wrong when it's constantly interrupted by adverts and with only around 45 minutes available for the show itself if they stick to the one hour format.

LagunaBubbles · 22/09/2016 11:58

Why should he be unemployed because the BBC underbid on the show?

They didnt underbid - they more than doubled their offer to £15 million. Production Company demanded £25 million. Can you imagine the outrage if they ended up paying treble what they were just to keep one show.

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 22/09/2016 11:59

I don't blame Mary for 'retiring' from the show - she's, dare I say, getting on a bit but I don't blame Paul Hollywood for staying on. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

raisedbyguineapigs · 22/09/2016 12:02

I think the whole show is going to have that kind of feel about it now though. Channel 4 can't really make exactly the same show. They will have to have the crying contestants and Slightly more acerbic style to make it more 'channel 4', and appeal more to advertisers.

user1474095534 · 22/09/2016 12:03

I think the show needs a revamp. Ive been watching it from the start and im bored now. Thank god its changing

Elendon · 22/09/2016 12:04

It's all going to end with a soggy bottom. And PH is a short arsed has been.

Love Mary Berry, her recipes are delightful. (Mary reminds me of my mum, who still cooks at 92, her Ulster frys are legend, but she does cook some gorgeous and delicious meals).

Elendon · 22/09/2016 12:08

Also, Bake Off was a programme you could safely sit down and watch with the family. With a little bit of how's your father about it.

Can't imagine this happening with Channel 4. They will beef it up narff narff. And go with the 30 somethings that have put the kids to bed.

Can't stand that type of TV. It always goes limp narff narff.
