To think I'm not unreasonable to tell sister no to this baby name?

Loveheart Belle Princess.

That is what my sister has decided the baby shall be called. She refuses to accept that I have said no and has started to refer to her as that.

Her argument is that it's a really pretty name, princesses are cool and she can call her love for short which is nice.

I think at 6 she is old enough to be told fuck no and be banned from naming anything Grin

Or am I missing out and will regret not using said name?!

Sister is never having a baby ever. She asks how they get out so I told her. She is disgusted and that is never happening to her ever apparently

But...but...thats what I'm calling MY baby! :-( Its not unique enough now. Still not going with what my eldest ds shouted out though when my youngest daughter was born..."lets call it Jizz!"
Had to thank DH for tlling him.."Thats what she USED to be called!"
Yuck. lol

Thank-you, made me laff! lol x

septembersunshine · 23/09/2016 19:45

My son wanted to call his new brother Sir Butt Hole. He is actually called Aidan. Count yourself lucky.

Julia001 · 23/09/2016 19:53

We used to call DS Elsie (LC - Little Chap) still do on occasion, but not in front of his mates, he is 13 !

pollymere · 23/09/2016 20:19

Belle is a nice enough name, maybe she can be known by that? Lovey is starting to be a name so don't stress over it.

mommybunny · 23/09/2016 20:24

For anyone with any American background/knowledge, one of the seven "castaways" on Gilligan's Island was named "Lovey" - Thurston Howell III's wife. You can always say Lovey was named after her. Smile

GDarling · 23/09/2016 20:25

My DC wanted to call their new sister 'Barbie' as the song was in the charts my goodness, she now suits that name so much and her elder brother calls her it!!
My dad renamed his 6 daughters with old fashion boys names eg, Norman, Harold, Arthur etc, we still call each other those names😂

PoloStar · 23/09/2016 20:53

My father apparently wanted to call me Anaesthesia as he thought it sounded pretty.

When I was little, my children were going to be Peregrine (boy) and Arabesque (girl). Obviously.

LadyConstanceDeCoverlet · 23/09/2016 20:57

DD was supposed to be called Clarabel Mavis, after the characters in the Thomas the Tank Engine series.

FurryLittleTwerp · 23/09/2016 21:19

DS used to name things mostly by simply adding "y" or "ie" to the end of their description, so he had soft toys called Sharky, Rayie, etc & my absolute favourite Triceratopsy Grin

Later he'd name them according to certain attributes, like Burrow (a badger) & Winnie Bear (not Pooh but a small bear he'd won) Smile

There were also some with "normal" names that I managed to name before he started voicing an opinion!

SallyDapp · 23/09/2016 21:31

Goodness, how lucky were we, we let our DD name our DS, we were a bit worried when she chose to name him after a pint of beer because she liked the song on the advert but as the beer was Toby we got off lightly! And we did name him Tobias so he's Toby for short.

mommybunny · 23/09/2016 22:21

Aw Twerp the bestest cuddly toy friend of my DD (9) is the stuffed gibbon with long arms (when stretched out he's almost as tall as she is) and velcro hands that DH got for her in Hamleys when she was a baby. His name is, of course, "Gibson" (or "Gibby" for short). I went on a cleaning rampage in her hellhole bedroom a few months ago and got rid of tons of her cuddly toys, but Gibby was never in any danger. She always finds a way to sneak him on school residential trips, and it makes her happy.

No naming imagination whatsoever but such devotion! Smile

I used to work with a woman from an Eastern European country.

She had two children. After naming her first child (a girl) a very pretty name, her younger (but not that much younger) brother asked if he could name her second child.

I'm not sure why she agreed, but her son is called Kevin. (Apparently her brother liked the Home Alone films.)

So, YANBU to not allow your sister to name your baby.

Tell her, when she is grown up, and is ready to have babies, she will be able to save Loveheart Belle Princess for her own daughter. (Which is what my friend should have said to her brother. Still, she might get her own back, when he has children.)

babbafishbabe · 23/09/2016 23:03

My DS 3 was determined that we would call his new DSis Special Baby Oso ..... She's 5 now can you imagine the embarrassment of being maned after a special agent bear!!!!

Hausfrau29 · 23/09/2016 23:09

My niece decided my baby was called Ella Cinderella Ariel when I was pregnant. She's obviously not quite as imaginative as OPs sister!

Kit30 · 23/09/2016 23:36

DS (aged 4) choice for the sibling was Joe Whitesnake Bonamassa...

GreatAuntMary · 24/09/2016 02:21

From our parish magazine:

To think I'm not unreasonable to tell sister no to this baby name?
Choccywoccyhooha · 24/09/2016 02:33

My boys, then aged 4 and 5, wanted to call their baby sister Canoe.

My husband,a fully fledged adult, living in the world, holding down a job and about to become a parent, wanted to call DS1 Agent. He managed to get my ridiculous mother on side too and they harper on st me for months about what a great name it was. I did not back down, even under serious duress.

BlondishBear · 24/09/2016 03:41

As a kid I wanted 4 girls... Melody, Harmony, Symphony and Rhapsody after the angels on captain scarlet.

FluffyFluffster · 24/09/2016 03:42

My sister had a bit of a meltdown that I wasn't called the name she had chosen for me. She has forgiven our parents and I have forgiven her for the abuse she attempted to inflict upon me. My theory, was that as a 4 year old, she couldn't be held accountable for questionable taste.

Years later, the Incident has never been forgotten.

Broken1Girl · 24/09/2016 03:46

Apparently at nearly 3yo I was set on having a baby sister, not a brother. Had DSis1 been a boy I wanted the name Rats Grin

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 24/09/2016 04:04

Perfect name! Belle as a nickname, you're set.

I convinced my sister her name was actually Dorothy and my parents told me to let her know. She believed me for a year!

Sprink · 24/09/2016 04:29

Think along the line of Mercedes-Perriwinkle and you won't be far off

Oh please let it be Portia-Blu. The perfect mix of posh meets fad.
