I know down here in the SE we've been blessed with good weather for the past few weeks, but here we are now on a wet and miserable Monday; kids coming home damp & stroppy from school because the honeymoon period is over & pavements are wet and slippery

The commute will be hellish; it was dark when many set off this morning, its definitely getting dark now and no doubt the trains will start failing due to the wrong kind of leaves on the line so you'll have to shove in with people whose umbrellas will drip down your neck or onto your feet.

We have a wood burner, last house we lived in had an open fire, just bought a new house and on completion, I'll start instructing our builder to reopen the chimney. I love an open fire.

I used to love Autumn and hated spring and summer. The sunshine made my depression worse. I'm no longer depressed...and suddenly cross about Autumn!

ShelaghTurner · 19/09/2016 19:02

People romanticise the shit out of summer too. Sipping margaritas on a sun kissed balcony overlooking the azure blue sea.

Bullocks. It's sweaty, stinky, bright red bodies (mine). Sticky sun cream or lobster skin, no air, no energy, can't be arsed to move from the coolest spot you can find which isn't actually cool at all. Little fucker insects waiting to bite the arse off you. I detest summer with every fibre of my being. I go into suspended animation till September. I am loving this weather now.

totalrecall1 · 19/09/2016 19:03

Love Autumn. February however is totally shit

FrenchDucksSayCoinCoin · 19/09/2016 19:03

All together now....
Autumn days when the grass is jewelled, and the silk inside a chestnut shell...

There are many things I love about a crisp dry Autumn day, but the evenings drawing in is affecting my mood already, I could do without that part.

NorksAreMessy · 19/09/2016 19:08

Round our way we change the hop bines in Autumn and start to think about ordering logs.
It feels like the start of cosy season

Spudlet · 19/09/2016 19:11

You can go walking and not get hot and sweaty and headachey from the glare. No more bitey bastard bugs. No more sunburn. No more sticky horrid sun cream. Red wine instead of white. Hedges full of free food. What's not to like?

LittleBearPad · 19/09/2016 19:11

Where are fires illegal?

NotYoda · 19/09/2016 19:12

Fireplaces aren't illegal

In clean-air areas you can't burn logs unless you have a DEFRA-rated log-burner

PuppyMonkey · 19/09/2016 19:12

(No need to capitalise autumn you know)...

americaandhawaii · 19/09/2016 19:13

but it never gets that hot in the UK and even if it does it is for 3 days absolute maximum!

Yes blue skies and golden leaves are all very well and good but the reality is grey and dank isn't it? Honestly how often do we get blue and gold??

myshinynewusername · 19/09/2016 19:16

Summer is by far the worst - being too hot and getting sweaty, sunburn, humidity, hayfever, flies/wasps/bees everywhere, people stinking of BO, ugly men walking around without a top on, being too hot to get to sleep at night etc.

Give me Autumn and Winter any day, although I don't 'do' snow.

AVY1 · 19/09/2016 19:21

i feel so much more at home in Autumn. From simply being so much happier in Autumn clothing (I love a coat) to the feeling of coziness that comes with crunchy leafy walks with my family. I also love nights drawing in - having recently heard of Hygge I think I now understand why. Our evenings as a family start earlier and last longer. I just love it!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 19/09/2016 19:24

(No need to capitalise autumn you know)...

That's why my spell check made it all red......

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 19/09/2016 19:25

I have the fire on, real wood, and nice cheese and radicchio salad.

Love it.

ginghamstarfish · 19/09/2016 19:26

Love autumn, it's the best season - hate summer. Everyone's different.

DownWithThisSortaThing · 19/09/2016 19:27

Whichever season it is, there's always someone whinging.
I personally quite like autumn. It reminds me of the excitement as a child of the build up to Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas so it's a nice feeling IMO. I'm not a fan of the cold so much but it's a nice time of year for me. I love summer and the heat - it never bothers me when it's hot. The only time of year I don't really like is January/February mainly because it's that post Christmas slump and were usually skint and bored. But when it gets to spring I'm happy again Smile

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 19/09/2016 19:27

I just bought a gorgeous Autumn tweed coat with fur collar. Adore Autumn clothes, boots, jumpers, long sleeved shirts. Love crisp autumnal mornings, cosy nights by log fires. What's not to like?
I love summer too but after two days of 30 degree heat like we've just had - the novelty wears off.

Meh84 · 19/09/2016 19:27

I love it.

Today the weather has been awful. Cold, rainy and windy. The kids came home from school damp and cold. Had a nice warming tea, early bath, pjs on radiators and hot chocolate whilst watching a bit of TV.

Love snuggling down...plus I've worn my boots today Grin

Revealall · 19/09/2016 19:30

But it's dark and rainy now and it's only 7.30. So a nice wet start tomorrow.

It's not cosy it's dull, dull dull. Crap tv and DS has been on the computer all evening because it's too wet to go out.

I'm counting the months already and the really tough bit hasn't started yet.

Spudlet · 19/09/2016 19:30

It never gets that hot in the uk

Oh yes it does, especially when you factor in how humid it always seems to be. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

PickAChew · 19/09/2016 19:31

I love being able to go for long walks without melting into a sweaty red puddle.

DinosaursRoar · 19/09/2016 20:00

I've come to the conclusion, I like all seasons, but by the time the next one rolls round, I've got bored of the last one! So now, I love Autumn, I love browns and reds on the trees and mirroring those muted colours in my clothing (I really suit Autumnal colours!). I love being back in boots - I cleaned off my chipped toenail varnish over the weekend, didn't get round to repainting and realised I probably won't need to bother for months!

I like the temperature change, last week when it was hitting 31 degrees round here it was too hot and I realised I'm done with that sweaty feeling, I want layers and being able to control my temp by taking a jumper off rather than having to go have yet another shower.

My hair is like straw after a summer of washing it at least once a day and being in the pool so much, I want to get back to having sleek hair, to putting my foundation on (rather than tinted suncream) and it staying put all day.

Obviously, once the novelty has worn off, I'll have had enough of autumn, but then I'll have Christmas to look forward to. Hopefully we'll get some snow in January, by February I'll have had enough of winter and will be whinging, and then lo, Spring will be round the corner and I can start thinking about pastels and sunny days that aren't too hot and getting stuck in the garden, then by the time I've had enough of that, it'll be buying new summer sandals and maxi dresses and thinking about holiday packing... Grin

Basically, I'm like a small child who needs constant novelty to stop me getting bored, and this country's climate gives me that. I like the way Britain changes properly between the seasons, we live in such a beautiful country, and there's different types of beauty in each season. Even rain can be beautiful and dramatic. (And this is my first Autumn for fucking years without a buggy to push so I can carry an umbrella easily!)

TheHubblesWindscreenWipers · 19/09/2016 20:03

Love autumn. Cooler, fresher, not light 24 fucking hours a day so you can actually sleep. Can go out without getting burned. Nice reddish light, trees nice colours... the mosquitoes calm down a bit.

My favourite season.
