are people who like Autumn basically mad?

I know down here in the SE we've been blessed with good weather for the past few weeks, but here we are now on a wet and miserable Monday; kids coming home damp & stroppy from school because the honeymoon period is over & pavements are wet and slippery

The commute will be hellish; it was dark when many set off this morning, its definitely getting dark now and no doubt the trains will start failing due to the wrong kind of leaves on the line so you'll have to shove in with people whose umbrellas will drip down your neck or onto your feet.

I love summer and Autumn. And Winter.

Spring is a bit meh

ilovesooty · 19/09/2016 18:14

Yes, they're mad. As far as I'm concerned we can fast forward to March now.

MollyRedskirts · 19/09/2016 18:17

Autumn is fantastic, but I'll be the first to acknowledge that I am a bit mad. One has nothing to do with the other. Wink

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/09/2016 18:19

Love autumn and spring, hate December (Christmas) and breathe a sigh of relief in January

PikachuSayBoo · 19/09/2016 18:20

I like early autumn.

Am up North, it's 18 degrees and the sun has been shining all day. Have been hill walking and it's been beautiful. Ive been hot in a t-shirt. In summer it can be too hot to do a decent walk. Doesn't get dark till about 8pm.

Once it starts getting colder im not so keen and I hate winter.

fruityb · 19/09/2016 18:20

Thick tights, boots, blazers, hot chocolate, chilly walks, crisp mornings, rosy cheeks, scarves and hats, jumpers, wraps, stews and casseroles and bonfire night.

It's my absolute favourite time of year. I do not cope well with our humid summers and sweatiness!

TheLastHeatwave · 19/09/2016 18:22

I love Autumn. For all the poetic leaf changing, lovely smelling, reasons posted by others.

I tolerate grey damp days like today, whist waiting for the crispy blue sky days 😊

HAVING seasons is one of the reasons I moved back to England.

ShowOfHands · 19/09/2016 18:22

Summer leaves the earth scorched and exposed and I feel flayed by it. Autumn is the earth retreating under a russet blanket. It's beautiful.

I can't describe my love for it without sounding like a wanker though.

AudreyBradshaw · 19/09/2016 18:23

Cardigans, boots, fleecy pyjamas, blankets, no stress about being out in the sun/heat, getting ready for Christmas, home made thick soup and fresh bread. I love autumn. And winter. 🍂🍁⛅ (and this year, by the time autumn is becoming winter, baby Bradshaw will have arrived)

BruceBogtrotter101 · 19/09/2016 18:23

Absolutely love autumn and always have. I love the autumn clothes, dark, cosy nights, Halloween, bonfire night, getting ready for Christmas, both of my DDs birthdays, comfort food, colder weather. I like all of the seasons but probably least look forward to summer

WhatamessIgotinto · 19/09/2016 18:24

we live on the edge of a forest which I have to drive through to get to work. The colours are just wonderful and the evening light is so soft. I seldom feel really envious of people but I really do now! Envy

toffee1000 · 19/09/2016 18:24

Don't particularly like autumn. People who love it seem to describe some fantasy of crisp cool air and crunchy leaves and all that, when in reality it is utter shite. Gets dark depressingly early, the weather is bollocks (people who love rain are weird IMO), and the knowledge that this weather will last until at least March/April. Boo hiss. And come on, it rarely ever gets uncomfortably hot in Britain. What about all those jokes about the British summer being only a week long?

BakewellFart · 19/09/2016 18:26

OP I'm with you, I hate it. Freezing cold, wet grey weather for the next 6 months. Heating on. Dark nights so kids can't play outside. Dog gets caked in mud every time we go out. Christmas with the fucking in laws... Dear God NOOOOOOOOOO

wasonthelist · 19/09/2016 18:26

Unless you are looking at it through a window and not suffering all the discomfort, it is basically shit, isn't it?

Good weather isn't blistering hot sunshine with zero rain in my book. I enjoy our temperate climate.

down here in the SE .........The commute will be hellish

I live in a less overcrowded part of these lovely islands and I don't have a commute, although I loved Autumn even when I did commute.

Sorry.

hollieberrie · 19/09/2016 18:26

YANBU OP, Autumn is utterly shit. Give me summer any day Grin

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/09/2016 18:26

I get uncomfortably hot in summer!

I hate Christmas

The rest of the time is fine!

expatinscotland · 19/09/2016 18:27

Fucking hate Summer.

VagueButlmportant · 19/09/2016 18:28

YANBU

It's the season of death and decay, and it means bloody Christmas is nearly here. It only just feels like we've had it.

I think Christmas would be great every four years, like the Olympics.

MakeItStopNeville · 19/09/2016 18:29

I love summer but I ADORE Autumn. Leaves are beautiful. Where I live, it's normally blue skies and sunny (not today admittedly). Great clothes. Buying your boots for the season. Fires get lit. Those few weeks when the A/c is turned off, the windows are open and the heating isn't on yet. Halloween, Thanksgiving and the run up to Xmas. ❤️

lionheart · 19/09/2016 18:29

I love, love love it but I love the others too. Smile

LittleBearPad · 19/09/2016 18:31

Opaque tights
Boots
Proper wool coats
Cosiness
Cold crisp nights
Autumn leaves
Proper pudding with custard

So much better than summer (hot/stupid clothes/sunburn/suncream etc)

Did I mention opaque tights...

I'm with you OP - another vote for a quick fast forward to Spring, please!!

Abraiid2 · 19/09/2016 18:34

Agree with Maggie. Up until November is lovely.

nursepearl · 19/09/2016 18:34

Autumn is my favourite season, I love that its cooler, I prefer autumn fashion and love the colours everywhere. I actually really hate summer, I hate feeling hot and sweaty and therefore grumpy,I hate the insects and just most things about it, I'm glad that we have months to go until its summer again!
