I dont see how its the tenants fault. Especially as part of the problem seems to have been caused by repair work. (this is one time where you really should read the comments)

Yes i know. I also have an objection to domestic abuse but no one on here has ever told me that i have a bit of a "thing" about that and ive been on many of those threads as well as started a few voicing my objections.

Housing was managed quite well when it was in the hands of councils.

The tenant will be recharged for the damage if it is seen that there was a leak or other obvious problem present that the tenant didn't notify the HA about. It's part of a tenancy agreement that the house has to be kept in good condition and that tenants have a responsibility to report repairs as soon as the problem arises.

If the tenant in your case had had an ongoing leak but not had it looked at then quite rightly they are responsible for the damage caused by their negligence.

I dont have an agenda. I just want tenants to be treated more fairly.

Nothing wrong with bringing badly managed HA's to a wider audience imo. Some tenants are treated very badly, some homes aren't safe, work they carry out can be really shoddy. I can attest this as a HA tenant my self.

The problem is we really don't know the facts so any discussion of this case is meaningless.

Sometimes tenants are treated unfairly, sometimes they treat their homes/landlords unfairly.

I used to live in a Council Flat and I have never had to deal with such incompetence from the Council. It reduced mt to tears! BUT the flats were nice and in a great location and you wouldn't believe the way some of them were trashed and defiled by some of the tenants - until really, they became uninhabitable. Such a shame.

It's horrible knowing I'm going to be a tenant for the rest of my life. What's even worse is the culture that tenants are sub human and are the cause of all problems with the property. You now need a deposit 8 1/2 times your salary! We need some decent laws to stop this profiteering from peoples day to day life and these hobbyist LL's.

Becky546. You are making some extremely odd comments on this thread. Helena posts on a broad range of threads, it's not as if this is all she ever posts about or does it daily. She's interested/concerned, it hardly makes her an 'activist' and it to be something she needs to declare. Your attitude is most odd & quite rude.

HA's appear to vary widely, as does the treatment within many of them depending on who you talk to. On the whole, councils do seem to be marginally better, though still 'hard of thinking.

one of my tenants (I'm a LL) lived in a HA property where in 12 months they overall had 11 inspections, at one point three in one month!

There is no reference to a cylinder or a burst in the article or the photos. There is mention of a pipe under the bath, and a suggestion that it was plumbed in plastic pipe which is not unusual.

Leaking pipes happen every day of the year.

You probably have a fair point about lots that you do post Helena. I just had a feeling you may be coming at this from an activist type perspective and that should really be made clear to people if that's the case

Accusing someone of 'pushing their agenda' when you have nothing to base that on is bad enough, but to accuse someone of 'coming at this from an activist perspective' when they have done no such thing is indeed weird & unpleasant.

Perhaphs you need to look up the definition of 'activist' before you go around accusing people of not disclosing their activist agenda. Not to mention that actual activists don't tend to hide their agenda...it kind of misses the point.

That's what's really unfair and unjust being stuck in rented housing and no hope of getting out!
