Interesting article. I'd like to know more about single tenancies and how partner is persuaded to allow this.

Viridian is an abysmal housing association, I have had personal experience of this.

I can't help but feel that this article is just hot air.

There mistakes nearly cost me and my family our lives (left gas running into our flat), and when I brought this to their attention they were completely dismissive, and did not fulfill their legal obligations.

Under the housing rules single people under 35 cannot have more than a single room or bedsit. Which means for a young couple without kids, splitting them from one household into 2 where neither can stay in the property so they both need rehousing into bedsits. I've been under 2 housing associations and neither have many bedsits spare and for the one im currently in most of them are down 1 street. They are not allowed to rehouse within a certain distance but in cases like this where these are the only properties they can't rehouse. So it would be easier for the council to ignore the abuse then rehouse one and have to deal with the fuss of the oher being homeless. There isn't enough support for women coming out of abusive relationships. Which there needs to be. Including access to councilling and benefits advice immediately after. Not going on a year long waiting list.
