Aibu to ask for my newborn shoot to be edited?

I had a newborn shoot done the other day, images are great and I love them all apart from the full length naked pic I want to use my little one has brown scab and placenta clip still on. My partner wants to use this image to blow up into large framed pic but also hates the cord. My photographer says he won't remove it with photoshop as it symbolises how small my baby is but it's horrible and ruins the photo.

The shoot wasn't exactly cheap and cost £250 so Aibu to go back and ask again??

For that price the photographer needs to make sure that you're happy with them!! I'd ask again. If he wont do it because he's unable to, ask him if he's happy for someone else to edit it?
Isn't there another photo you like that can be enlarged?

Yeah I've paid already, there isn't another full length naked one that I can choose as you can see the cord in them all, I wanted full length the match my other children's newborn shoots and also to show the size of him!

To be fair tot he photographer is you have a newborn shoot before the cord has detached then the cord will be on. However, he is provided you a service at a price and if part of that service is Photoshopping out inperfections then as a client I'd expect you to be able to have it edited out.

Where is the cord and clip? It may be that the placement means it would be very difficult to photoshop out effectively without drastically editing a large amount of the photo. Or it could be that the photographer just doesn't want to do it!

Did your contract include any editing? If so, does it extend to big amendments like this? You may need to pay for the work, if it doesn't, or get someone else to do the photoshopping.

£250 is a lot to shell out to a stroppy photographer who won't fix your photo the way you want so in the interest of good client relations he should just do it.

But I can't help thinking your child might not thank you in the future for sending the naked one out to everyone. Look at that Australian girl who's suing her parents for putting naked baby pictures on facebook.

Ah, got it. YANBU. Even if Photoshopping wasn't explicitly agreed, the photographer should offer you the flexibility to fix it if you're unhappy with the results in anyway. Unless he's a wanky artiste, his professional priority is keeping his clients happy.

Giratina - haha I didn't know of this.. However the pic is for my own house 😂 Plus not bits are on show.. He's snuggled up in a woollen nest. Very tasteful lol!
The cord is on his belly button so just looks unsightly as the big yellow clip from hosp is in it also 😁

What do you expect the photographer to replace it with? He can't exactly draw in a fake bellybutton!

Why didn't you do the shoot after the cord had come off if you dislike the look of it so much?

Like a pp said he can't draw a belly button in its not like editing out a blemish!

People think Photoshop is like a magic wand, it's not it takes a lot of work to use. If he does Photoshop it out then notapuffin is right where would he get the bellybutton from? It wouldn't be a true representation of your baby, I think you should probably just leave it. Some newborn pics end up looking fake as they are too airbrushed, I prefer them natural x

I am a photographer. Personally, if you wanted the clip removed I would do it. However, there are a number of reasons why he might not either want o be able to do that.

He might not either know or not be confident. Removing blemishes is quite simple, the clip would be trickier and a lot more time consuming. There is an assumption that all photographers are photoshop wizards but that is not always the case.

It might be a principle - that particular photographer might not agree with making cosmetic changes. Every photographer has their own style and look and shouldn't have to compromise that.

Yes you should be happy with your prints but this is not a quality issue, it's a cosmetic one. If they were poor quality then absolutely go back and complain or ask for them to be redone but you are obviously happy with the quality as you want to blow up the image. YANBU at all to ask him to remove it if in hindsight you would rather it wasn't there but if he doesn't want to take it out then there's not much you can do.

If you have booked a shoot early enough that the clip is still on then he has probably though that you are happy for it to be photographed. Like I said, I would redo it. YANBU to ask him to do it but expecting it to be done would be unreasonable.

Just to say - I would redo it on just one image and only as a courtesy IF it could be done without making it worse.

I don't know whether to laugh that you paid £250 for a photo shoot, or ask why you thought that having a shoot with the cord still on might suddenly magically result in the cord being invisible, or whether to feel sad that you don't like how your newborn looks and want him photoshopped!!

So much wrong here it's hard to choose..

I'm a bit confused as to why, if you wanted a specific image (to match others) but didn't want something specific to show (the clip) you wouldn't have discussed this with the photographer in advance?

Did you get the digital images as part of your deal? If so, you could ask someone else to do it, although you would have to pay more.

TBH If he is any good a photoshop it wouldn't really be a massive feat.

I personally think he either can't do it or thinks you are being cheeky to ask without offering more money.
