Hi all just had a buyer leave negative feedback because the jeans I sold her didn't fit her despite me clearly labelling the size!! Bonkers!! Has any one else had any interesting eBay/ online seller stories!! This is genuinely for my own interest/ amusement!!

Anya Hindmarsh (the bag designer) once bought a CD from me via eBay. Gave good feedback. Then two years later messaged me to say it hadn't arrived. She was very polite, and apologetic when she realised she'd mistaken me for another seller.

It was a CD of dance music, like a Now That's What I Call Dance Music compilation CD.

I sold a nearly new pair of DM boots, size 5.
Got a snotty email after delivery from the buyer saying they didn't fit her and I was obliged to accept them as a return and send her a pair that fit.
I explained I was a private seller and wasn't obliged to accept a return - and that I didn't have another pair in a bigger size. She started quoting consumer regs at me (only valid for businesses) and then opened a 'not as described' Paypal case. Luckily I had taken photos of the size label and included them on the listing, when I responded to the case I said it wasn't my fault the buyer had fat feet. Paypal found in my favour Grin

So many people are pisstaking twats.

I used to sell a lot of Care Bear stuff back in the day, and mostly to the USA.
I sold a wind up Care Bear alarm clock to a girl in New York.

Took it to the Post Office, carefully wrapped and as I stood in the queue realised my parcel was ticking Blush. I was also just over a week after 9/11 so security was incredibly heightened. By some fluke it made it, though our Post Master was amused at the ticking parcel.

Another US Transaction (before Paypal) and the buyer sent me a cheque. I banked it, it cleared, I sent his item. 4 weeks later the cheque bounced. I didn't know at the time that the cheque would actually take up to 6 months to clear properly and could still be recalled. I contacted the buyer and had zero hope he'd pay again and it was about $50.

Not only did he reply but I had a Christmas card a week later from him with all the money inside and an apology as he'd moved his bank after paying me thinking it was all sorted.

I've just had a buyer tell me she doesn't check her email very often because of "strong radiation that is coming from the posts I receive".

I am not entirely sure her account hasn't been hacked...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/09/2016 16:55

Gemini that's exactly the sort of thing which drives me bananas - I've also listed things with not only the size but the actual measurements, and still they demand a paid for return and refund if the wretched thing doesn't fit

Some of these idiots need to learn to read realize that if they want a trying on service, the place for that is a proper online shop where they'll have to pay the price, instead of expecting it for £2 items from private sellers Hmm

RhodaBull · 19/09/2016 17:39

Dh sold a piece of hi-fi equipment and the buyer messaged one year later saying it didn't work and he wanted a refund. He threatened to sue, so dh said, "Go on, then," and luckily he didn't respond to that.

I have sold masses on Ebay, and have only had a handful of ***holes. The worst was someone who bought a Mini Boden coat. Upon receipt she messaged to say she was on benefits and couldn't afford it and wanted a refund. When I said to send it back, she said it was dirty and would keep it anyway as well as having the refund. Yeah, right, says I and tell her to return it. So then I get a message saying the coat had knife slashes all over it Shock . I reported her to Ebay at that point!

Cagliostro · 19/09/2016 18:58

I once bought some toy food and it arrived well wrapped... each item full of water?! Could hear it sloshing around. I hope it was because she'd washed them before sending, but sometimes wonder if they'd been used as bath toys and they'd basically sent me dirty bath water.

Only1scoop · 19/09/2016 19:19

Ugh that's grim Confused

cavkc123 · 19/09/2016 19:30

I sold a handbag and 2 weeks later, the buyer wanted to return it saying they didn't like it .. it arrived back with a lipstick and tissue inside and had very clearly been used.

Another handbag .. had a message from someone saying the gold colour looked different on their tablet as opposed to their pc and which one was correct

CandODad · 20/09/2016 13:28

I sold a 9ct gold chain. I listed the weight and someone won (bought) it. The messagd me a month later saying they had smelted it and it was fake (despite a hallmarked)
I expected PayPal to find in my favour since (a) there are less invasive ways to test gold quality and (b) they no longer had the product. They found in the buyers favour as I couldn't provide proof!
Sad really since it means I no longer use PayPal and as such can't use eBay.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/09/2016 16:20

CandODad that reminds me of buying a 9 carat rope chain on ebay. When it arrived it was heavier than expected and I thought I'd been swizzed with plated brass instead of gold ... except it turned out to be 18 carat rather than 9!!

I told the seller of course, and since they refused to take any more as it was their mistake I sent them a little thank you gift instead Smile

CandODad · 20/09/2016 16:32

Wish that had been the case with me rather than being ripped off by a dodgy dealer Puzzler.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/09/2016 19:21

Absolutely, CandODad - the way you were treated was a disgrace, but the trouble is that because so much of stuff on ebay is fake, the dealer probably had a lot of success in claiming he'd been "done" when actually he was the cheat

Yet another case of the dishonest spoiling things for everyone else Sad

StStrattersOfMN · 20/09/2016 23:08

I've just had a buyer tell me she doesn't check her email very often because of "strong radiation that is coming from the posts I receive".

I think, Jamie, that could well be my SIL 😂

PaniWahine · 21/09/2016 07:25

Forgot one - had a buyer demand I sell her an iPhone for half the advertised price and less than all the other bids. Her reasoning? She has three kids to get ready for the school year and as a single mum it was tough. It was going to cost her €700/€800 and her offer was all she could afford so I should ignore the other bids and sell the iPhone to her. She then suggested I might even like to 'donate' it to her. Confused Hmm
I replied that as a part time student I had €8,000 to pay for my Masters and needed donations from selling my iPhone to help pay the university bill.

CandODad · 21/09/2016 12:11

To be fair though those that try it on don't just exist online. I used to work in a shop where a mum once tried to return all the toys she had bought before Christmas because the chnew led didn't like them. The fact that they were all opened, well played with and the last week of January seemed lost on her.

RhodaBull · 21/09/2016 13:49

Why are some people so horrible ? It's a subject for another thread, I know, but I would never lie, cheat or try to get something for nothing. I just wouldn't. I wonder what thought processes someone goes through when they say something hasn't arrived when it has, or that it's damaged or broken when it isn't. Do they not feel any twinge of guilt? Or are they high-fiving themselves for having got something for nothing?

icouldabeenacontender · 21/09/2016 13:53

I bought a cream suit from E-bay.
The trousers had been worn when the previous owner had had her period, no attempt at all had been made to clean them.

RhodaBull · 21/09/2016 13:58

Shock I wish I hadn't read that...

Mermaidsandbutterflies · 21/09/2016 15:10

I sell lots of personalised stuff on ebay - one woman emailed me gushing over a particular item and said she wanted me to design something for her first to make sure she was happy..

So she said she wanted a particular design with her first name at the top and last name at the bottom, the design was 2 different images and she must have emailed me about 15 times changing the colour on each and every design I sent...

in the end she ended up with orange first name, blue last name, pink for first graphic and yellow for second graphic, was absolutely over the moon with it and couldn't wait for it to arrive..

she never paid and I still think to this day it was a competitor winding me up and wasting my time! grrrr!
