Hi all just had a buyer leave negative feedback because the jeans I sold her didn't fit her despite me clearly labelling the size!! Bonkers!! Has any one else had any interesting eBay/ online seller stories!! This is genuinely for my own interest/ amusement!!

My friend bought a pair of shoes. Strsppy gold wedge sandals vintage style.

They were both for a left foot

The scam artist seller refunded but insisted that she had tried them on and they were a normal pair but that my friend must have had another left foot one identical onr lying around the house in order to pull a fast one Confused

Absolutely bat shit.

I didn't realise you could see people's previous purchases? How would someone know what you've paid for an item?
For what it's worth, if you get left negative feedback that's clearly disproportionate or completely wrong, you can ring Ebay and they will read back through your emails and they can remove incorrect feedback. I would never have done this years ago but now feedback is so important and affects your rates, then I can't afford to have negatives that aren't my fault. I only ever leave feedback as a seller once the buyer has left theirs so I know they have received the items and are happy with them.

What, people go along and dress up and pretend to be toddlers? Maybe I've lived a sheltered life, but I've never heard of anything so bizarre. (probably have, just can't bring them to mind at this second). And then advertise on the computer? Do they provide "discipline" for naughty little boys?

I'm off to think up some search terms

My funniest sale was the chap who messaged me to see if I could dispatch very quickly a china teapot so his wife wouldn't notice that he had broken her much loved one whilst playing football with the dog in the kitchen. He placed the order then messaged me back to say mine was a different size but proceeded with the order anyway. I have always wondered how he explained the growth of the teapot to his wife.

We sold a working games console via eBay, late November/early December. The buyer arrived to collect it, we turned it on and showed them but it was running updates and DH needed to go to work, so they never got to try a game on it.

Christmas Day we got a message from them saying that they had given it as a gift but they couldn't get a game to work and they wanted a refund. We knew they were trying it on, we figured they were going to do a switch with an old console, but thought our hands were tied (we had no proof that we sold it working and eBay often sides with the buyer)- till we hit on a great idea.

We said we would come and collect, and so long as the serial number matched our records and the tamper seal was still intact they could have a full refund.

They never replied!

scottishegg · 17/09/2016 12:13

Oh just remembered another story, I sold a book once, communicated with the seller to say I was going to post it nothing more and he gave me his phone number, started to flirt profusely and sent me numerous messages... The book I sold him was about serial killer!! Creepy!! The best bit was husband genuinely thought I must have inadvertently flirted with him or put too many kisses on the end of my message!!

I listed my car for sale years ago, a green one. I was obviously not a dealer, just making a private sale. I got about a dozen emails from a woman asking if I had it in red, why wasn't it red....getting more and more abusive. Very ducking odd

JellyBelli · 17/09/2016 12:47

We run an Ebay shop and have hundreds of these stories...
Some of our items are age restricted. (Think craft knives type items.)
We had someone email us asking for some info, and it was clear they didnt have a clue how to use the thing safely. So that rang alarm bells. DP sent a carefully worded email and the next reply the potential buyer volunteered the info that he was 14 years old.
So DP blocked him, and emailed him to say why. (Because you are probably a shill for Trading Standards as no one would be this stupid).
We got a hysterical email back saying we had disrespected him and his parents and he would leave negative feedback. (By magic or something as he hadnt bought anything).

Another two people repeatedly emailed demanding money for items which 'hadnt arrived' plus huge amounts for postage. They weren't things we sold.

One buyer left the best feedback; 'am deducting one star as envelope was sealed in an uneven manner' Grin

PrettyBlueDressForTheXmasBall · 17/09/2016 12:49

put too many kisses on the end of my message!!

Did you put any kisses on the message?

PrettyBlueDressForTheXmasBall · 17/09/2016 12:52

'am deducting one star as envelope was sealed in an uneven manner'

Grin, surely as long as it was sealed it doesn't matter?Confused some people are barmy.

OhThatThingAgain · 17/09/2016 13:02

I once sold a Maxi Cosi Pebble to a woman (cash) at my local tube station. We agreed to meet there, what I didn't know she was in labour and on her way to hospital and bought the car seat on the way as she was convinced the hospital wouldn't let her leave without one.

It was an auction item and her husband emailed me (after she did) begging to 'Buy it now' and meet them in 30 minutes to sell it to them. When I got there she was having contractions, I directed them to the local cab office but they said they'd just take the bus from there. She texted me a photo of the newborn baby in the car seat two days later Grin

am deducting one star as envelope was sealed in an uneven manner

I know I shouldn't, but sometimes you have to laugh ... let's face it, it's either that or scream Grin

Boiing · 17/09/2016 14:44

I sold a chair (only 6 months old, newish condition, v good price). The buyer came round, inspected it suspiciously and then confirmed that he would buy it. Then he looked at me, lost, and said "Oh. How am I going to get it into my car?" He was a tall guy in his 20s, I'm 5ft1 and was heavily pregnant. Luckily my neighbour was there. She's about my height and in her late 40s, but just picked it up on her own and carried it to his car and put it in the boot. Can't believe he came to pick up a chair but then was too much of a wuss to actually pick it up!

Just posted this on another thread...

The police turning up and telling us that a parcel addressed to us had blown up in the sorting office and did we have any ideas why. Were we into anything dodgy. Interviewed our son in case it was something he was into behind our backs.
We were told to call 999 if any other parcels arrived. We're in a small market town where these things don't happen.
Turns out it was a badly packaged seat belt that hubby had ordered off Ebay. Apparently they use some sort of small explosives to make them work (or did back then)

Soubriquet · 17/09/2016 15:30

I had 6 tins of prescription lactose free milk.

Pharmacist wouldn't take them back and no one else wanted them so I listed on eBay

Someone asked me if I would sell it for slightly cheaper than I advertised throwing in a sob story about an Italian orphanage.

I agreed anyway as I just wanted them gone.

Sent them by a courier and thought no more of it.

3 weeks later he contacted me and stated they had never arrived.

What he didn't realise is that I had tracked the order and the name on the receipt was the same name as him.

When I pointed that out he suddenly changed his mind and claimed he HAD received it, he had actually meant to ask if I had any more Hmm

mummyflood · 17/09/2016 15:47

Recently bought a car wheel. Paid for it immediately. A week later, got an email from the seller - ''sorry for the delay. will be dispatched today''. Another week later, politely asked the seller why it hadn't arrived. He replied saying one of the other three hadn't arrived either...would look into it. About 3 or 4 days later, emailed him again as had no further info, asking for a tracking number and had he contacted the courier yet? his reply was that it had turned up returned to his old address and he had ''no idea why''. I suggested that perhaps he had put his old address as the return address, and suggested that I was not exactly pleased I would presumably now be waiting another week or so for it to arrive (per his estimated delivery times). Got no reply or tracking number, and no item ever arrived. Ended up with an immediate refund from paypal once I opened a case. Never did hear from him. Interestingly he never received any feedback for the other three...

finlayargyle · 17/09/2016 16:09

Had same thing once. Also once left feedback for someone who bought something of mine. Typed prompt payment, great buyer into my new phone.

Autocorrect sent prompt payment, great beaver!

JellyBelli · 17/09/2016 16:13

Rafflesway How very dare you insist they send you the item you paid for! Grin

JellyBelli · 17/09/2016 16:17

Buyer said their item hadnt arrived so I posted a replacement first class which arrived the next day.
3 weeks later the Post Office returned this, claiming the address didnt exist.

This wasn't Ebay but another buy and sell website.
A couple of years ago in the height of the 'Frozen' mania I tried to buy an Elsa dress for my DD's 7th birthday present.
I eventually found one and ordered it and paid with Paypal.
I waited for weeks and it didn't come. The seller kept on promising that it would come soon and eventually I sourced one somewhere else and ordered it.
I told to original seller that I didn't want it any more and I wanted my money back.
My money arrived back in an envelope, in coins, taped to a piece of card and not the full amount either.
A few days later the dress arrived. It was age 3!!!
The seller begged me to return it, I said I would when she sent me the rest of my money plus some extra for postage, she refunded the money on paypal????
So I sent it back to her which I did and then she begged me to remove the negative feedback I'd put on her profile because she had refunded me.

redexpat · 17/09/2016 17:40

Mine is quite tame in comparison to these! Years ago I bought a cd, payment was by cheque. I sent 3 messages asking to whom should i make the cheque payable? After about 10 days I got an email asking if I still wanted it because if not he would relist it. Gaaah!

Mothertoasuperhero · 17/09/2016 18:19

Sold a beautiful coat from an expensive high street shop.. the buyer messaged me asking if I'd take £xx (a considerable amount less then I was asking for) and I accepted.. weeks passed and she was sending aggressive emails demanding to know why it hadn't arrived.. I didn't send tracked (rookie error!) but was able to send her the receipt from the post office.. suddenly the next day it had arrived but it was stained with 'white marks' and covered in holes (strange it didn't leave my house like that).. I offered a partial refund of 10% or she could return it for a full refund.. she chose to resend it.. once again I'm bombarded with messages asking why she hasn't received her refund (I hadn't received the coat back!!).. out of interest I searched for her on Facebook/Instagram and guess what she was wearing in one of her pictures!!!! I ALWAYS send tracked now and take millions of extra photos that I don't publish on the listing so I can't be conned again haha!! Loved reading some of these!

Similar but local site rather than eBay

We are renovating our home so are frequently selling or even giving away things, like radiators when we swapped to verticals. We gave away a small fitted wardrobe, guy turned up in a tiny little fiesta hatch, took DH and him an hour to get it stowed inside - he gave us a bottle of wine and a homemade cake. Gave away a toilet (never used, we did t like the builders choices) the collector gave us a bible each and 'a lifetime of blessings'. We sold a TV, collector arrived told us a sob story, tried to negotiate down, but we refused. He left TV-less, calling us names - the following week I went into an interview... Yes, he was the interviewer.
The worst one was the guy who wanted five cans of paint that we had leftover. Three times he promised to turn up to collect but didn't arrive. We then said we would offer it to the next interested person... He then rang to say he was on his way but we had already left house which we told him. He kept calling and texting so I blocked his number. Twenty minutes later our neighbours rang us. The guy had arrived and started banging on our door. Finding our place empty, he'd started knocking on the neighbours doors. He was still sitting outside when we came home two hours later, so we drive around the block. Came back half an hour later, no still there. Eventually he left after four hours. Weirdo.
Thankfully most people have been really lovely but it put me off for a while.
