Been thinking all day and I'm going to ask for our ongoing 'woo' to be deleted because I hate the idea of the little boy's mother recognising where we live and the story of his death. I really don't want to upset anyone.

Marking my place for when I get in from the pub later.

Thanks for sharing everyone! Some really strange goings on here!

Here's some of mine albeit not as interesting as some of yours!!

I've had lots of moments (and so has DH) where we have thought that he other called our name IYSWIM... like i would be upstairs and hear clear as day DH call my name but when I go downstairs and ask what he wants he wouldn't of called me... I know he's not lying because it's happened to him too but with my voice.

Another thing that's happened to me twice is hearing someone say my name, in a deep, menacing, long voice literally right next to my ear... I didn't sleep for 4 nights the first time it happened Confused

More recently, I've been hearing humming that only I can hear but DH can't....

We had very strange going ons in our old house like heavy footsteps in the attic (so much so the ceiling shook) and a very eerie feeling of being watched and as though something was right behind you, literally, I often didn't turn around for fear that I would be face to face with whatever it was. All I know is that whatever it was, it didn't feel good, if anything, it felt evil.

Another was when I was younger and I would have the same recurring dream of a large humanoid creature in the house which would creep along the hallway on its way to my room whispering my name, not really woo but it was so scary living with that dream almost every night at such a young age.

My DM has also had some VERY freaky things happen to her, one in particular which still gives me shivers Shock

Ladybunnyfluff I think that's very thoughtful and a good idea.

Here is the lad in the disco story. Obviously it is not my story - I've just found it on an old thread.

In the late 1970s/early 1980's the place to go was TOTS (Talk of The south), which was a Disco in Southend on sea. We used to go every week. I started to notice a young man with blond hair. He was always alone and always stood not far from the bar. I would catch his eye and he would stare back but it felt very uncomfortable. He didn't smile back which was very odd as back then I was a gorgeous young thing! ;)

He was there every week and although I was having a riot of a time with my girl friends, I did start to look out for him. No one else appeared to notice him as we were all having such a great time.He was always dresses the same in shirt and trousers. He wasn't fashionable but he wasn't unfashionable. He was good looking and had a very clear complexion and wavy blond hair.

I chat to anyone but I always had the feeling of being fearful of him and not to approach. I suppose I just got used to seeing him there.

Fast forward nearly twenty years later and my disco days were long over and my then partner who was in the music business told me that he had to meet someone at the former TOTS. I think there was a name change and instead of a disco it was now a nightclub. I decided to go with him to see how much it had changed inside. We got there and off he went to meet this chap, it was only a quick chat.

I strolled around, feeling rather out of place amongst the pretty young things and then wham! Straight in front of me about ten feet away was the boy/man I used to see all of those years ago!

Everything around me seemed to fade away and I could not tear my eyes away from him. He was angry, very angry I could feel his anger and I felt terrified. I was fixed to the spot and I cannot find the words to describe just how petrified I was.

I felt as if I was in grave danger. This young man, perfectly ordinary looking was exactly the same as I'd seen him before. He hasn't aged and his hair and clothes were the same.

All of a sudden, the world started rushing back into view and I could see and hear everything going on around me, I spun around and knew I had to get out of there as soon as I could. Thankfully my now ex had finished with the bloke he had to meet and I tugged on his arm to get us out of there.

I have no idea what or why I saw this young man and why he should be so menacing.

Another poster did suggest that a teenager had been run over and killed nearby but it doesn't explain why this presence would want to scare the crap out of me!

He was so scary because he was so normal looking and whatever it was about him had the power to give off the very strong vibe of anger and danger.

Wow some proper goose bump raising stories here! DM has regularly seen ghostly figures over the years in historical properties and the like, and I've had a couple of odd happenings, seeing faces at windows of closed pubs etc. After FIL died I saw a figure walk past the doorway of the room I was in. Thought it was DH initially, then realised I could hear him and MIL were talking in the kitchen which was the opposite direction so it couldn't have been him. I've since seen a shadowy figure twice that height, both times were family birthdays, which made me feel quite slightly unnerved, but also quite happy.

The thing that unnerved me the most happened on holiday in Germany a couple of years ago. We were out for an evening walk with DC in some fields next to the village we were staying in. Quite far from us on the horizon I saw a figure walking towards us on the path. He was dressed really strangely, as if his trousers were tied round his waist, his clothes seemed old fashioned and ill fitting. He was sauntering in quite a casual manner, but I had such a strong reaction to him. I immediately felt like my children were in danger and I had to keep them away from him. I grabbed them and told DH we were heading back. When I looked over my shoulder the figure wasn't there anymore, but I kept walking. At the time 'paedophile' popped into my head, but I have no idea why, I'm not usually one to be paranoid about that kind of thing, but I wonder if the heightened threat I felt was translated into that as that's the one of the highest threats you can think of? I wonder if it was perhaps a supernatural figure, especially as he disappeared into thin air and was dressed so strangely. Told DH later on, he hadn't seen the figure and just told me I was crazy Hmm

Not 'woo' as such, but that danger feeling you have at times.

We live near a primary school , and at the time this happened I had 2 kids in senior sch and 2 others who went to another local primary sch. I have 3 boys and one girl.
my 2 older children used the nearby primary sch crossing/ lollypop man on route to sch. The crossing man was also the schools caretaker.
My kids witnessed a mad car driver who attempted to run over the crossing man and the passing kids, didnt stop but sped on through.

So the police and the crossing fella came to our house and took witness statements from our older kids with the rest of the family.

For some time after that the caretaker/road crossing man was friendly and nothing about him bothered me. I found out that his wife ran a nearby preschool, and he was a step dad to her children and they had adopted 2 small children.
One day as I started to unload the car of my usual vast amount of food shopping he ran across the road from the school and offered to help me with my shopping. Which, even as I write this doesnt sound in anyway abnormal or strange. But an action of a kind man. Apart from the almost insistent way he asked. I said no, but thanks. I have it sorted. He asked again, and then I suddenly thought, no, he is not coming in my home again. I have no idea why I suddenly felt that way but stood my ground in a friendly was as possible.
6 months later I hear from a neighbour he has run from the police. Turns out his step daughter made a disclosure about sexual abuse from him. His poor wife, divorced him stood by her children and moved away to start again. ( I often think of her and wonder how she coped, I hope she and her children are happy) He lived on the streets for 18 months until he got a very bad chest infection and accidentally gave his real name to a nurse in hospital. Once back with police confessed to other sexual abuse on other children and was sent to prison.

I saw my son run into the study - a small boy with a curly mop of hair. I called out to him and he was actually in the bathroom brushing his teeth which he had been doing for a couple of minutes.

Another incident was when our daughter was casually spinning on our exercise bike (so not too much effort in ir). I called her off it to talk about something and after a couple of minutes it was still spinning at the same velocity. We stared, slack jawed, at it for a good five minutes longer then it slowed down quite suddenly and stopped sharply.

My now husband and I were on a hilltop gazing at the stars. There was one moving really slowly from north to south which we thought must be a satellite. Until it stopped directly overhead us and we started discussing whether or not satellites did that. Then it suddenly shot back across the sky the way it had come at lightning speed, no acceleration buildup, and didn't fizzle out. It's the only time I think I've seen aliens Grin

A couple of strange things that have happened to me.

Dh works nights and he was working so there was just me and dd in the house. We live in a very rural location surrounded by farmland and a wood. I had a really strange dream about lions being loose in the back garden and I was frantically running round the house warning everyone not to go out and not to let the cat out. Thought nothing of it when I woke up but then I heard dd wake up and start to cry. I went into her room and she was sobbing. She said to me "mummy the lions scared me". We'd obviously had very similar dreams.

In a previous house there was a small landing between our bedroom and the bathroom. I walked out of our bedroom and as I did I bumped into a man. I automatically thought it was dh so apologised but when I turned round there was no one there. Dh was out with the dog so it wasn't him.

The last thing was at the house before this. I kept finding lights switched on and the TV switched on even though I was sure I'd turned it them off. Then as we were getting ready to move dh and I were in the kitchen with the door closed and dd was in bed. She still slept in a cot at that point so she could not get out of bed. I walked from the kitchen and passed the (closed) living room door to go up the stairs. As I did I heard music playing. I went into the room and the lap top, which was still closed and has been switched off, was playing manamana by the Muppets. (Dd loves it.) I spoke to a colleague who was very into woo stuff and she suggested there was a spirit who was unhappy that we were moving. She suggested I tell the spirit that we were going but it could come with us. I did and we had no more trouble.

I have a few.
One of the weirdest was when I lived at home. It wasn't a particularly old house, standard mid-60s suburban 3 bed semi.
I was probably about 17/18 and sat downstairs watching a movie one night. I heard a chair scrape across the tile floor in the kitchen and went to see who was still up. Kitchen door was open but the light was off. Could vaguely see that one chair was pulled out and facing the doorway. Suddenly remembered that both brothers were out for the night and parents had been in bed a few hours.
Fastest I've ever run up to bed.

Another creepy/unexplainable experience: back in my hometown there is a footpath that is essentially an old railway line. It is supposedly haunted in places so a friend and I decided to walk along it one afternoon before going back into town for a drink.
This pathway starts at a park in town, cuts through some playing fields and along the backs of houses for a while then links up with a little stream and eventually crosses under a main road and continues out into what's now a country park type place.
We had passed a few dog walkers and cyclists here and there but it wasn't too busy.

Anyway, we get to the point where it links the stream (the path is right up to the banks) and then to where the path goes under a main road. The bridge is an arched bridge but only just head height and the road above is quite wide so the path underneath is a bit creepy. Here the path turns from dirt/gravel to concrete and creates an eerie echo under the bridge.

We get out the other side and decide to call it a night and head back, at this point the sun is setting and we don't fancy much being on the pathway after dark.
So we turn round and go back under the bridge. About three quarters of the way under, we see wet footprints on the path heading back towards the town (the direction we are now heading in). It's like whoever made them has just walked out of the stream. They were very recent as there was still water pooled in them and it was a warm day. We hadn't passed anyone under the bridge and hadn't noticed those prints before we'd walked under.
A few metres up, the path went from concrete to dirt and we lost the prints but it was ridiculously creepy and we almost ran back to town! I don't think I ever walked down that pathway ever again.

My FiL was very I'll and had come home from hospital to die. DH, MiL and BiL stayed with him all the time. Late in the afternoon DH came home for a break. We were standing in the kitchen drinking tea when we heard the front door slam. We waited for one of the DDs to appear, or run up the stairs. Nothing happened so we looked, no one there. Seconds later the phone rang and it was the news that FiL had died. I am absolutely sure he had come to say goodbye.

A few months later I was coming out of the bathroom and DH took me in his arms. I looked up at him (he is very tall) but the face I saw wasn't his. The face i saw had brighht blue eyes and his are brown. I screamed very loudly and was obviously terrified. DH was very upset, obviously, and asked me what had just happened. For some reason I was unable to tell him what I saw. No explanation for that. I have lived in this house since it was first built and nothing like that has ever happened before or since.

PageStillNotFound404 you are really really brave. I am shaking, having just read that!

I have a few.

I went to an attraction/history tour in my home town. The place wasn't particularly creepy but very old. As we were walking through the tour we stopped and the tour guide was talking about the sewage system back then (I know riveting stuff) when I all of a sudden I felt freezing cold and this over whelming feeling that something bad was going to happen. I couldn't shake it, it was horrible.

It wasn't a room, we had merely stepped through a hallway and standing amongst scaffolding. I turned to my friend and said 'is it just me or is it bloody freezing all of a sudden? I don't like it' she looked at me as though I was bonkers so I just left it.

Afterwards we turned round a corner into a room where the tour guide told us a story that a little girl had died there. Gave the shivers. I will never forget that.

Cashewnutts · 16/09/2016 21:06

Final one because I've scared myself into putting the big light on.

OH and I were up with DD one night a few weeks ago when it was hot. We had all the windows wide open and could hear what was either a raucous party or a huge blow-up row happening a few streets over. Bear in mind it was about 2/3am so were considering calling non emergency police to get it sorted, but couldn't work out whether it was a row or party.

So there we are, standing by the curtains debating in whispers when we hear a door open on our street. It's a small cul de sac with only about 15 or so terrace houses and we can see most of them from our window.

OH pulls back the curtain and we peep out. Where we live, streetlights go out at about 1am and come on again at 5 to save energy so it was pitch black. Through the light of the moon and a security light, we see one of our neighbours with headphones in walk towards the closed end of the street. She stopped at the end house, checking her phone or something, then turned and looked right at us peeping round the curtain.

We fucking jump a mile and dash back into bed.

Put an end to our middle of the night curtain twitching!!!!

Cellardoor23 · 16/09/2016 21:07

Another one was a very weird dream when my DM died.

About a week later I was having a nap on the couch with my phone on the coffee table when it started ringing. Very loudly ringing. I looked at it and it was my mum. When I answered it was this weird crackling noise, the type you get when someone either has really bad reception or is on a walky talky.

All she said was my name and the usual pet name that she would call me, and asked me if I was ok. She kept asking me if I was ok. I totally freaked and put the phone down and woke up.

liz70 · 16/09/2016 21:15

Was that a dream or real, Cellar?

Cellardoor23 · 16/09/2016 21:16

It was a dream. But a very very real dream.

I have this wonderful mental picture of a completely frustrated ghost, exploding light bulbs and glasses shouting 'SCREAM DAM YOU' and you sitting there 'meh.....just a bit of static' 😁
