to hate vaping...

I'm aware that I may BU, but I really don't like vaping.
I don't like the big bulky vaping things that look like an old school cassette player, (Personally I think people who vape look like right plonkers!) and I don't like vaping in public!
It winds me right up - a few times I have been in places (waiting rooms, busses etc) where people aren't allowed to smoke, but they're sat there vaping... surely it should be classed as the same thing?
We don't fully understand the risks of vaping, so how do we know its not the same as smoking just yet??

Yanbu

I don't want your vape smoke near me. It's rude.

We have people who vape at work in the office. Prob sets off the smoke alarms. WTF is say.

MissBattleaxe · 13/09/2016 22:32

When I see someone vaping I think "Well done for making that decision and quitting the fags".

The vape from a vaper is mainly steam and flavour, since nicotine has no taste or smell.

You may not like vaping, but you're not in charge of the open air. When someone walks past me vaping, I barely notice. When someone walks past me smoking a fag, I REALLY notice. There's carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, creosote and who know what else in a fag.

Keep vaping vapours.

I'm an ex smoker and an ex vaper and I think vaping should be encouraged as an alternative to smoking, not ridiculed.

PS But vapers should vape in the same places they used to smoke and not in office, cinemas etc.

LoremIpsum · 13/09/2016 22:46

It won't set off smoke alarms, believe, because it's not smoke. Just like a boiling kettle billows steam but doesn't set off smoke alarms.

nikkinackienoo · 13/09/2016 22:59

U2 why do we vape more than we smoked?
I know I vape more but just thought it was me being wankerish

tanfield90 · 13/09/2016 23:07

I appreciate that for smokers, vaping is a means to an end. But in all honesty, the sweet smell of the vapour is sickeningly foul. I can't stand the smell. As a non-smoker, give me the smell of Benson and Hedges any day. It's far less offensive.

hollinhurst84 · 13/09/2016 23:09

I got to vape inside a pub today. Refreshing! It was pouring down and I said I was nipping out and the manager looked like Confused and said "you're fine in here"

Hidingtonothing · 13/09/2016 23:19

nicki, we vape more than we smoked because an ecig/vape doesn't deliver the same amount of nicotine in 'one hit' as a cigarette so it will take longer to quell the craving for nicotine.

Hidingtonothing · 13/09/2016 23:23

tanfield, I feel the same about people who drown themselves in perfume, doesn't mean they don't have the right to do it. Fortunately the smell from a vape dissipates very quickly and leaves no after smell so you only have to bear it for a few seconds.

nikkinackienoo · 13/09/2016 23:25

Thanks hiding

e1y1 · 13/09/2016 23:28

YANBU. Nothing worse than watching someone sucking on a glow stick and blowing air freshener spray all over the place.

Totally and utterly disgusting and annoying.

tigerdriverII · 13/09/2016 23:38

Good grief. It just looks like adult dummies and FFS the baby ones are bad enough.

It is perfectly possible to stop smoking or even not start in the first place without looking like a twat.

I say this as a former 30 a day merchant BTW. I just stopped.

Dontneedausername · 13/09/2016 23:42

Wow Tiger, aren't you just amazing then Hmm

tigerdriverII · 13/09/2016 23:44

Yeah, I'd say so.

If I can do it, anyone can. Isn't being addicted to nicotine just a bit daft? It's not exactly a positive life choice is it?

purpleshortcake · 13/09/2016 23:44

Vaping doesn't annoy me too much but I just don't get why people walk round in public with the flippin' things hanging round their necks? It looks pretty desperate ...even hard-core alcoholics don't go round with visible tool-belts filled with cans of Stella just in case they need a swig. Can any vapers enlighten me?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 13/09/2016 23:50

tigerdriverll I suggest a name change, certainly more descriptive, try tigerdrivel because you've spouted plenty

tigerdriverII · 13/09/2016 23:55

? Nice pun there

So you're saying (a) that being addicted to nicotine is a positive life choice and (b) that vaping doesn't make one look like a prat

You're welcome to that opinion. As I am to mine.

kerryob · 14/09/2016 01:05

After loosing relatives at a young age to lung cancer (one only on Monday at the age of 60 😞) I think vaping is a better alternative to smoking. I wished cigarettes & cigars were banned we know what they do, anything that can help someone quit those evil sticks in my eyes is a positive.

Lung cancer is actually the biggest cancer killer for women in the U.K.

Better to look like a twat that's vapes instead of smoking a cigarette

LellyMcKelly · 14/09/2016 01:19

If you don't like it, don't do it. Problem solved.

a. Compared to smoking 20 Marlboro a day it is a positive life choice.
b. I really couldn't give a damn if you think it makes me look like a prat.

I am glad you're not being so judgemental about it though.

tigerdriverII · 14/09/2016 01:27

I'm pleased you're pleased. Win win.

WiddlinDiddlin · 14/09/2016 02:45

Wow, strap on your massive judgey pants of judgedom..

I love vaping, I quit a 20 a day cig habit I'd had for over 20 years using a vape - not because I wanted to quit smoking, I loved smoking, but because I was likely to die of it quite quickly (smoking when you have heart failure is a bad plan indeed).

My GP is super happy I vape, my cardiologist thinks its fucking fabulous and told me he has many patients who have swapped cigs for a vape and are infinitely healthier because of it.

I plowed my way through the PHE report on vaping (thats the gummint for you, not just vapers) that basically says if its harming anyone, its just the vaper themselves, and it poses NO risk to those inhaling secondary vapour at all, it does not leave residue on the walls and surfaces inside buildings either.

I try not to vape in places that are not appropriate -I would not vape in a waiting room or in a hospital, or in a small public space like a bus or train, and I keep my sub-ohm MASSIVE CLOUDS vaping for at home only, really because it produces such huge clouds I can't see where I am going..

But the normal vape that produces a small amount of 'cloud', yeah, I'll vape that wherever and whenever I can - if you don't like it, tough titties really. I don't like smelling the stinking BO or the harsh perfumes or after shaves people douse themselves with - the other morning i was actually woken up by someone standing outside my house wearing perfume that smelt like a cross between cat piss and sherry... now that I am a non-smoker I can smell all this horrible shit, but I accept that smelling stuff I don't like is part of life!

Vapers DO tend to vape more constantly than they would smoke - because vaping produces a smaller amount of nicotine, with no clear cut 'end point', whereas smoking a ciggy gives you a big hit.. and then the cig is finished so thats your 'end point'.. having another will likely make you feel a bit sick and most people won't because they are on a time limit, they have gone out into the freezing cold to have that cig, because cigs are really expensive... whereas most of this doesn't apply to vaping.

But feel free to think I am a twat - I couldn't give a shit.

Babasaclover · 14/09/2016 02:58

They look like right tosser a!!!!!

Also they contain lots of harmful stuff, many of which is still to be investigated. Should be treated just like cigarettes imo

hollinhurst84 · 14/09/2016 03:04

Babas did you even read the other posts? E liquid generally has 4 ingredients, not loads of harmful stuff
Public health have said its 95% safer than smoking
People hate smoking right? They whine and complain and then people swap to vaping and they hate that too Hmm
I smoked for 20 years and I have been 100 days a non smoker now. In those 100 days I've had more shit than I did in 20 years smoking
I don't give a crap if you think I "look like a tosser" because a) none of your business b) you're obviously a lovey judgy person who would probably judge me on something else and c) my health is more important than what I look like

WiddlinDiddlin · 14/09/2016 03:14

Babas - because of course, people who make snap judgements based on ignorant, uninformed opinions DON'T look like right tossers?

Try reading some of the previous posts in this thread hmm? They do not contain 'lots of harmful stuff' at all, theres no mystery about what e-juice contains, the mystery is what some of those chemicals MIGHT do to those vaping, long term.

We already know that it does no harm to non-vapers who happen to breath in secondary vapour, because secondary vapour contains practically nothing!

Hollinhurst - well done :)

Babasaclover · 14/09/2016 05:41

Woooo calm down guys. All entitled to an opinion. That's the whole point of forums.

Of course it is better than smoking but it's still a bad habit. It's not been around long enough to know everything we need to about it and is supposed to be a tool to give up smoking - not used forever.
