Bathmats!!!!

I am of the opinion that you should dry you feet before placing your feet on the bathmat.

DP seeks to think the bathmat is there to partially dry his feet and then splodge around the rest of the bathroom leaving it soaking.

Give him his due he drys the floor (with his towel Confused but that's another thread) but if I'm second in when I step out the shower it's onto a soggy cold bathmat.

Who is being unreasonable here?

What's the point of having a bath mat if you dry your feet before standing on it?!

So you dry your feet while standing on the wet and slippery shower floor?

Of course. How else do you wash your feet?

A) not to slip up on the wet floor

Oooh it's right up there with flannels, my fave! Bathmats are horrible. Hand towel on the floor, out shower on to handover, shimmy shimmy shimmy towel dry the rest, use hand towel to dry the floor, everything in to the wash bin. Perfect. No need for horrible bathroom carpet things and all nice and tidy. But anyway your husband is right. What is a bathmat for if not for standing on? Why would you want a slightly damp rug on your bathroom floor?

YABU. I wipe myself down with a flannel inc feet and step out of the shower onto the mat. It's there to stop the floor getting wet and slippy.

Dh towels off in the shower before getting out. Also drying his feet before stepping into the towel so it's not too wet.

YABU, I don't see how its possible to dry yourself inside a damp shower cubicle, or in a bath; some water will remain and will end up on the bath mat when you step out making it damp. The only way you can guarantee a completely dry mat is to have your own.

YADBU! The bath mat is designed to be stood on while you dry yourself. It never crosses my mind to dry my feet before I get out of the shower.

TBH, this is nothing to do with him not drying his feet, though. If he is still so soaking wet that he manages to wet the rest of the bathroom floor, then drying a tiny part of his body is not going to help at all.

You need to observe him having a shower, and give him helpful tips on getting drier before he steps out of it. Perhaps he could brush his arms and legs a few times with his hands before he gets out? That's what I do. I'm quite sure he would appreciate that.

YANBU

I spent months on crutches looking after 2 toddlers after slipping on the wet bathroom floor after DP's morning bath.

He still leaves it soaking. He won't change his slovenly habits of a lifetime, so now I have 3 bath mats and use them as stepping stones en route to the sink or toilet.

I mean we're not totally dry when we step onto the mat, but we're not dripping wet either. So if your dh is literally stepping out of the shower without wiping himself down then yes, HIBU.

Omg this INFURIATES ME! My DH does this ALL THE TIME! I go in for a wee after he's had a shower (small bathroom) and end up with soaking wet feet Angry haha so annoying xx

Well, that method would not work for me at all. My balance is really shit and that would guarantee a nasty accident! That is why we got rid of the bath, because stepping in and out was becoming rather dangerous! I step out of the shower onto the bath mat, grab my towel and wrap it round my body, then wrap my hair in a towel. I then take the few steps between the bathroom and my bedroom and I have never noticed the upstairs becoming soaking wet.

The bath mat gets washed regularly with the towels. Even when there were three of us showering each day, the mat was never that wet. And I will be perfectly honest and say that I trust that the shower gel, shampoo and water running down my body and across the shower floor, wash my feet adequately without the need for dangerous contortions. My feet are clean and do not smell - there is no need for gymnastics either in the shower/bath or getting out.

My OH not only turns the bathroom into a swimming pool (I really don't know how!) but barely dries himself before getting into bed. It drives me crazy. YANBU!!

But the floor shouldn't be wet if you stand on the bathmat to dry off, and I don't know about B - I always put my flip flops on after drying off (whilst standing on the bathmat Wink).

You both are mad. Who on earth dries like you do? And who gets the whole bathroom that wet?? My DH is hairy as fuck and doesn't make the bathroom wet and we both dry our feet on the bath mat. If you don't use the bath mat to dry your feet then what is its purpose?

Report
butterfliesandzebras · 12/09/2016 09:46

Y are both BU.

Ridiculous to insist he unsafely balances in the shower to dry the bottoms of his feet, but he is also being unreasonable to get water everywhere (which is totally separate from the dry underside of feet issue - how much water do you think 2 feet alone can transfer!).

I step straight out from shower onto bathmat, grab towel and dry myself. Bathmat has two wet foot marks from the small amount of water on the under side of my feet, and next showerer can either wait the 3 mins or so it will take to dry, or step onto a slightly different part of the bath mat.

TheEmmaDilemma · 12/09/2016 09:49

You are both unreasonable. The bath mat is there to take the water up when getting out of the bath. Then it is hung to dry and the floor is dry because you used the bath matt. That's the whole purpose of them.

I am curious as to how you can wipe yourself down before you get out of the shower. Where is your towel? Because if I hung it over the shower cubicle, it would be soaked, as I am liberal with the water and the cubicle is wet all over. I suppose I could put it on the loo seat, but even then, I would be dripping all over the floor to reach it, assuming I wasn't using a bath mat. But as another poster said, they are designed for stepping on when you come out of the bath. It doesn't lie on the floor all day. When we're finished showering, we hang it over the shower cubicle to dry. No problem and our bathroom is never swimming.

For me, bath/shower mats are the first thing my soggy feet hit when I get out of the soggy bath/shower so there'll always be a wet patch per foot, DH creates three wet patches, I think because his willy drips water between his feet.

No biggie, we just pop it over the towel rail to dry between uses and then wash it in with towels.

You are right in so much as it's yucky when someone leaves a soggy bathmat on the floor all day, festering.

I have literally never heard of anyone drying their feet before stepping on the bathmat. You learn something new every day on MN Grin

Oh I should add we hang the bathmat up to dry after every use and wash it weekly so it doesn't get gross or anything.

little, I use the flannel I've used to wash with. Wring it out then wipe down, one foot on side of bath and wipe that, step out with that one, turn and do other foot. Both feet not totally dry but not dripping wet either. Retrieve towel from towel rail.

I always hang the bathmat over the side of the bath once I'm done in the bathroom. DP would leave it there all day every day.

It was just the way I was taught when little as it's how both my parents get dried too. I do the feet thing after getting dried whilst still standing in the bath. I think DP must go straight from under running water to jumping out literally dripping wet and then moving around the bathroom. It's weird, I'm going to ask him for a step by step account Grin

I hate soggy bath mats but isn't that the point of them? I don't expect everyone to balance on one foot in the wet slippery bath whilst they dry the other to avoid a wet mat.

Dh wipes himself down with hands and er shakes when he gets out.
