Bathmats!!!!

I am of the opinion that you should dry you feet before placing your feet on the bathmat.

DP seeks to think the bathmat is there to partially dry his feet and then splodge around the rest of the bathroom leaving it soaking.

Give him his due he drys the floor (with his towel Confused but that's another thread) but if I'm second in when I step out the shower it's onto a soggy cold bathmat.

Who is being unreasonable here?

I haven't rtft, there is no point, what damediazepam said on the first page is absolutely the correct way to go about things.

Bathmats are for drying feet! Dont understand what other purpose they have about from that. Hang towel up after use problem solved as dry for next person. Never had a problem.

I think because his willy drips water between his feet.
I had to refrain myself from LOL in a public place.

My partner fitted a shower in my downstairs cloakroom....the floor is shiny tiles...absolutely lethal with wet feet...we have a bathmat on the floor just to avoid visits to hospital.

  • So you dry your feet while standing on the wet and slippery shower floor?
Of course. How else do you wash your feet? *

True... This is the part of the washing that I don't like, most of the time I bend over, and clean my feet without lifting them completely, for ex I will lift the heel and clean underneath, then put the heel back down and lift the front of the foot.
This is getting very detailed Grin

You need a bathmat of sufficient heft to soak up the amount of water an ordinary person deposits when they first step out of the bath/shower, such that it's not hugely damp for a second person following after.

You then need to hang it up on the rack after use, so it dries quickly.

Job done.

The difficulty is finding decent thick bathmats that aren't glorified hand towels.

My DH does this - no idea how one human can distribute SO much water everywhere - it drove me mad. So mad that I bought my own mat, which lives on the towel radiator and is always lovely and dry when I want a shower.

I bought a nice bathmat which for some reason wouldn't spin properly in the dryer, so it's now in a bin liner in bathroom cupboard - have put towel on floor to step on from shower. I've always either stood straight on to bathmat or towel from shower, sat on side of bath and then dried feet off - thought that's what they were for Grin

in washing machine, not dryer

Erm, I use my bath mat to dry my feet Grin I thought that was what they are for? We have several mats, so I replace them as and when they need it.

Of course you don't dry your feet before you put them on the bathmat - the bathmat is placed immediately outside the shower or the bath to stop you from slipping over or making the floor really wet while you reach for the towel to dry yourself with.

It's meant to get soggy - that's its purpose. Soggy bathmat = nice dry floor. If you don't like soggy bathmats then hang them up over the bath or the towel rail to air each day and change them every three or four days.

Tsk. Hmm This is like the nonsensical 'Flannels are all slimy and stinky and unhygienic' argument all over again.

This is easily solved by having an anti slip mat in the bath or shower tray. Then you can lift each foot up properly to wash it without slipping over and cracking your skull open.

Do I really have to explain these simple things to people? Shock

I don't pre dry and when I get out the shower, the bath mat dries my feet and doesn't get crazy soaked. Maybe these DH's all just have big drippy willies Grin

Bloody hell, I've heard it all now! I can't believe there are people that actually stand balancing on one foot in the bath to dry the sole of each foot before placing it on the bath mat! All to avoid a wet mat? Why?

This is hilarious! Whilst it isn't pleasant to stand on someone else's pre-used bathmat, I'm not aware of there being a one bathmat per household rule, so couldn't you just buy some more? Surely the raison d'etre of the bathmat (ooo 'ark at me) is to catch the drips? I bet you've got 'Show Towels' too and you have a conniption if anyone dares to dry their hands on them, you do don't you?

I use my hands to 'squeegee' off the excess water from my hair and body. I then step out onto toweling bath mat. Only 2 wet feet are left, fine for my DH to use after me. The bath towel is quite wet and hung up.

My DH on the other hand leaves the bath mat and towel absolutely soaking and impossible for anyone else to use after him.

Therefore, I shower first!! Grin

OP you are right. You have to put a foot on the side of the bath, dry it, twist and turn out the bath and put t'other foot on side and dry. Keeps the mat fairly dry for the next person.

Then you have shower down the bath, remove the hair from the plughole, hang the bathmat on the side of the bath to dry and then close the shower curtain to dry it.

These are my favourite types of threads. Would never occur to me to try and dry feet whilst still in the bath?

We solved the bathmat wetness issue by chucking ours away. We use a towel instead - easier to wash.

Towel is used on the floor after previously being used for drying ie day before or something.

Then towel moves to washing basket rotation stylee.

You're both wrong. Dry self off a bit, step onto bathmat with wet feet. Mat gets a bit damp but bathroom floor stays dry.

My kids are old enough to shower but I don't want them balancing precariously on one leg trying to dry their foot while making the big step out of the bath. All for the sake of keeping a mat, that's clearly designed to be absorbent, dry?! Bonkers.

I stand and let the water run off me and then do a little shake and then step out so mat is damp/slightly wet but not soaking. Rest of the family turns off water and immediately gets out so mat is sodden. Have tried for years to break them of it. Reduced to nagging DH as he and I share a bathroom.

FurryLittleTwerp · 12/09/2016 19:45

I get dry before stepping out of the bath & dry each foot as I lift it to step out.

The shower has a little duckboard draining area for getting dry before stepping onto the mat.

DH just leaps onto the mat all wet though & sloshes water about.

It's a man thing perhaps. He is hairy too - the body hair seems to carry a lot of water.

I'm so confused. People do some kind of balancing thing drying thing so they don't get a bathmat wet? Where do you keep your towel? I suppose I could put it in the floor, but why wouldn't I just get out of the shower (having squeezed out excess water from my long hair), step on bath mat and then reach for towel, which is hanging as it should be on the rail?
