Bathmats!!!!

I am of the opinion that you should dry you feet before placing your feet on the bathmat.

DP seeks to think the bathmat is there to partially dry his feet and then splodge around the rest of the bathroom leaving it soaking.

Give him his due he drys the floor (with his towel Confused but that's another thread) but if I'm second in when I step out the shower it's onto a soggy cold bathmat.

Who is being unreasonable here?

Could you get a duckboard? They are lush - ours is wooden and it feels lovely to step on. It's slatted so doesn't get soaked and yucky. You could put a towel underneath, I guess, to soak up water if he is that streaming when he gets out, but you can dry off when you are standing on it before you step onto the floor. Mine is curved to fit the rounded shower unit - always makes me feel like I'm at a spa!

OP. You've clearly got the wrong bath mat. I've got a lush plush John Lewis one that just doesn't stay wet.

Bingo. Everyone's a winner.

Just get another bath mat! We've got loads of them.

I use my bathmat to step onto while wet.

Get better bathmats IKEA do superb ones that suck up moisture right away.

IKEA microfibres bath maths solved this problem for DH.

YANBU. Both DH and DS get it sopping wet - is it really too much to ask for them to dry themselves whilst in the shower? I have tried taking away the bath mat but tiles get slippery. Soooo fed up with reminding them.

This seems to be one of the eleventy billion things men don't give a shit about but make more cleaning work. Angry I just had a bath and noticed (due to thread) that I towel off and sort of shake my feet off before stepping out the bath/shower. So the mat gets wet (as it is supposed to!) but not overly. There are so many little things like that around the house that mean you spend less time cleaning because you're not creating a mess... and so many men who don't do them.

I can't tolerate any sort of carpeting in the bathroom or kitchen so bathmat no way. I have lots of small handtowels, which I use to get kids out onto from the bath, they go straight in wash afterwards. I doubt i'd wash bathmat right after several ppl stepped out onto it. I did see one in my husbands house right after we got married I discreetly binned it

if I pretend im ok with bathmats for a while, then yes ideally he should wipe his feet just roughly to get excess water off, then get onto the mat. But if he doesn't no bother that's what the mat is for?

It's probably going to be easier to trade your bath mat in for a better one than your dp.

Ha this is so funny! For a start u obviously are not buying the right bath mats. Matalan do some fab deep pile ones. Have 1 each. Unless u are sharing the shower???
Tell him to stay on the mat till he is dry or get more mats to put around the bathroom.
YABU to expect anyone to dry their feet before stepping out on a mat.

Ha ha so glad this happens in order households. YANBU although the wet bathroom gives me the rage more. I do step onto bath mat but also have towels immediately to hand. DH manages to puddle water everywhere - gives me the rage, particularly when I go back in with socks/ tights on which then get all wet. DH also thinks I am being unreasonable and that gives me the range more!

What's the point of a bath mat if your feet are already dry? I'd dry myself off loosely but I can't see the point in putting towels on the floor to step onto. The bath mat is essentially a towel that lives on the floor, after all.

Good job OP's husband isn't in our house as the bathroom has a carpet. After 22 years the carpet has definitely seen better days though.

What would you do if you only had a bath (like we do)? Wait ages for the water to go out before getting out, so that you could dry your feet first and save the precious bath mat? Wink

Fwiw I think your DH is being totally U getting water everywhere, but to me a bath mat is for standing on straight out of the bath/shower. I wipe excess water off my feet using the top of the side of the bath but then straight onto the mat. It gets hung up after, and washed when necessary.

I absolutely hate it when I go on holiday to a self-catering place and there's no mat of any description. What am I supposed to do - step straight out onto the slippy floor?! And even if I dried my feet it'd still be cold and possibly splashed by water and therefore unsafe... Hmm

YABU!

Fluffy mat is to dry your feet! It then hangs up with towels on rail to dry for next shower, so not wet for long. I've never even thought about not getting the mat wet... how odd to risk topping over to dry your feet before leaving the shower!

This one of the funniests post I've seen!! BATHMATS are for getting out of the BATH!?! Or you would drip water onto floor ( or carpet in my case) drying feet before stepping out is mad, and I am anal about feet being dried on towels.. I insist on them being put in wash after feet rub down ..ugh! But that's another post!! Ladies if you want a pretty dry mat for show then thats cool too, but you would have to have two then!!! Poor daddies, we are so horrible to them 😃😃😃😃

This is is a pet hate of mine too! I always make sure that I dry myself down before I step out onto the map, but the other half soaks the place. I know people are wondering what the point of the bath mat is. I don't mind it getting a little wet, it's there to protect the floor after all, but it's when they absolutely soak it when they could dry off a little first.

It makes it worse that we live in a new build and for some weird reason the developers decided to put carpets in both bathrooms. Eventually, we're going to rip them out, but for now, the other half is always getting the carpet yet too. Carpets in bathrooms are the worst idea ever.

I agree with you OP. I also dry myself all over with a wrung out flannel before using the towel as it stops it from getting over-wet (a habit from old camping days) and I do the same with my feet. We're all different.
