bus using our driveway to turn around every day.

Scene - basically, we live on a main road, with a private dead end service road for us to get to our houses and parking spaces. There are 8 houses along our little row. We have a drive outside our house, then the service lane, then another parking space, then a small strip of grass (ours) then the main road.

I have noticed that a small bus (18 seater maybe??) has started collecting a dc from our row of houses, and is using our parking space and grass to turn around each morning and afternoon. The alternative would be to reverse back down the lane and turn around at the entrance.

For some reason this really annoys me that the bus driver does this twice a day. We now have tyre marks on the grass, and I think it will add to the break up of the road surface.
DH is not bothered, saying he has to turn around somewhere, but it annoys me. AIBU?

I love that youve drawn the Driver.
can you block the strip with bins?

Wellywife · 06/09/2016 15:55

If you're in can you not park in the middle of your parking space to block it for a bit. Then he'll get used to using another way of turning.

MoreCoffeeNow · 06/09/2016 15:55

Why doesn't the driver park on the main road? It's outside the DC's property and wouldn't cause inconvenience to neighbours.

whatatod0 · 06/09/2016 15:56

each property owns the land from their house right up to the road. The houses then have legal access across other properties to reach their own house. Does that make sense?

I'd speak to the bus company and, if no luck there, to the council tendering the service. Your grass is getting damaged, now (and how bad will it look, come November, when it's waterlogged?) and your drive and the pavement in front of it will eventually be damaged, as they are not built to withstand the weight of a 6 tonne minibus.

Mookbark · 06/09/2016 16:00

Can I just say OP, what a wonderful picture.
Nothing else to offer, apart from that it would annoy me, too.

LittleBeautyBelle · 06/09/2016 16:01

Yes, why can't the bus park on the main road?
Are there parking/stop restrictions?

diddl · 06/09/2016 16:13

I'm not getting why the driver turns at yours rather than sooner tbh.

honkinghaddock · 06/09/2016 16:37

The main road may not be considered a safe enough place to do pick ups/drop offs.

LyndaNotLinda · 06/09/2016 16:47

So he drives past the house he's collecting from, turns around in your drive/on your grass and drives back.

I presume he's using your parking area as it's bigger and easier for him to turn around in. And clearly he's a fairly careless driver if he can't do it without reversing onto the grass.

MoreCoffeeNow · 06/09/2016 16:48

OP says it's a quiet area, honking. I was looking for a solution and that would seem to be a possibility.

honkinghaddock · 06/09/2016 16:54

It might be a possibility depending upon the road and the child.

whatatod0 · 06/09/2016 16:55

Lynda, that is exactly what happens.

He can't turn around in the dc's property because they have filled their spaces up with their own cars.

RaisingSteam · 06/09/2016 16:57

I wonder if the driver complained he couldn't turn the bus properly and they have changed the child's allocation to a taxi?

MoreCoffeeNow · 06/09/2016 16:59

Result for everyone, then, if that's the case.

whatatod0 · 06/09/2016 17:00

The road is very busy in the mornings - but I think stopping on the main road would be the only solution really if it has to be a bus, and it can't reverse.
Our little road is just not suitable (for much really) for a bus!

whatatod0 · 06/09/2016 17:01

Yes - fingers crossed we're back to a taxi. I'm still going to park our cars strategically tomorrow morning though!!!

I think the bus driver may realise that - hence the taxi. Wink

FurryLittleTwerp · 06/09/2016 17:46

love the little bus in the picture Smile

Well let's hope the taxi continues as that worked well for everyone.

I do love your diagram - love a good parking diagram :)

RaspberryOverload · 06/09/2016 19:55

Wonder if someone connected to the bus company has seen this thread? Hence the taxi.
