Aibu to not iron bed sheets

lalaland1985 · 05/09/2016 22:29

We have a superking bed. For the past hour and a half I have been standing ironing sheets to put on the bed. I have only managed the flat sheet and pillow cases. I have the bloody duvet cover and fitted sheet to go! Aibu to fling it all on in its creased form!?

Sorry folks, but all my bedding is "no iron".

When you get into the bed surely it is rumpled straight away?

Clean is the important thing IMV. After that you can iron it yourself!

lalaland1985 · 05/09/2016 23:26

Minions - he also irons bedsheets if he's changing the bed.

Sometimes I get too hot with a duvet but can't sleep without a cover. The flat sheet is perfect for this!

I loveironed sheets . Lucky I did today as I was ironing there was some insect I could get rid off. Would not have noticed if I had just folded. Love tea towels ironed too.

Kreeshsheesh · 05/09/2016 23:38

Not trying to derail, but how exactly do you fold a fitted sheet??

LetsJunglyJumpToIt · 05/09/2016 23:39

Totally unnecessary!

Amalfimamma · 05/09/2016 23:41

Kreeshsheesh

Fold the fitted corners into each other, first in half then agin, then fold down the flaps while making a fold in the corner

ll87 · 05/09/2016 23:43

regardless of how beautiful the ironed sheets appear, think of all the other things you could be doing with that time! I can honestly think of 100 things that would be more satisfying SmileSmile

Topseyt · 05/09/2016 23:52

I don't do ironing. Life is just too short for that.

I have never ironed a single bed sheet and I never will.

xexxsy · 05/09/2016 23:57

Topseyt,

My sentiments entirely.

There is so much to do and see, and so little time!

LineyReborn · 06/09/2016 00:00

Ex-sil irons bedsheets and pants apparently. And tea towels.

She must live in a cloud of steam like Bobbie running to her daddy.

Yorkieheaven · 06/09/2016 00:01

Fuck that. Done enough hospital corners in my youth as a nurse and it's all bollocks. You can't beat fitted bed sheets.

mynamesnotMa · 06/09/2016 00:05

I ironed a pair of trousers today..they looked worse. It was just five minutes of pointless behaviour.
I do like crisp sheets, but I have far too many spaces to stare at before I go down that road. I am, however, not adverse to a plug in.

KentMum2008 · 06/09/2016 00:11

LineyReborn that really made me laugh!

I occasionally iron bedsheets, if we have people to stay. We don't have a spare bedroom, so any guests sleep in me and DPs bed. At the minute it's too hot for our duvet (it's a million togs or something) so I have a fitted sheet on the bottom, a flat sheet to sleep under and a throw/eiderdown/bedspread
/whateveryoucallit at the end of the bed in case it gets chilly. I'll iron the flat sheet because it's 100% cotton and creases like a bitch, and the top pillowcases! But I've never ironed a fitted sheet. My mum irons everything and it drives me mad.

KentMum2008 · 06/09/2016 00:12

And also, I love a plug in. And I have ornamental tea towels 🙈

LineyReborn · 06/09/2016 00:18

And I have ornamental tea towels

I have a decorative salt and pepper set from the Isle of Man.

KentMum2008 · 06/09/2016 00:21

I see your decorative salt and pepper set, and raise you my decorative sugar dispenser thingy. One of those retro ones, off of greasy spoon cafes. The sugar doesn't come out properly and DP hates it. But it's ornamental, who cares if it works? It looks pretty and there's a sugar bowl in the cupboard...

itsbetterthanabox · 06/09/2016 00:22

I'm always astounded that people spend time doing this. Of course you don't iron bed sheets! Madness!
You must have so much time.

SabineUndine · 06/09/2016 00:24

I iron pillowcases but that's all Ten minutes after you've got into bed, who's to know?

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 06/09/2016 00:25

I thought "iron the bed sheets" was a euphemism for some kind of new dirty bedroom antics. I couldn't quite imagine what and clicked excited to see what I am missing out on. I am extremely disappointed.

It never occurred to me for even a split second that anyone would actually iron bedsheets. Where do you stand on teatowels and jeans?

NapQueen · 06/09/2016 00:25

I don't iron bedlinen

If I did though, I'd put the bottom sheet on the mattress and iron in in situ. Same if I had a flat sheet. Pillowcases are easy to iron on a board.

Duvet cover.....erm

Maybe lay that over the mattress too and iron on the bed before putting it on the duvet.

pink1173 · 06/09/2016 16:05

My mum used to iron her very curly hair in the 60s!

heron98 · 06/09/2016 16:08

People iron their sheets?! Why??

BeMorePanda · 06/09/2016 16:09

Iron nothing!
