BIL visits. BIL gets toothbrush from bathroom and wanders around living room brushing teeth. BIL then goes over to kitchen sink to spit/rinse mouth. It's open plan so we get to see him spitting in our kitchen sink.

AIBU to think you just wouldn't do this in someone else's home?

YANBU
That is disgusting and appalling behaviour.

I think it's really odd to start brushing your teeth in the bathroom and then decide to wander around the house, still brushing and end by spitting in the kitchen sink. Just stay in the bathroom!

Yes, it is revolting. I'd have grabbed the toothbrush and shoved it up his arse, tbh Envy

If it's your toothbrush, gross.

If it's his own, meh.

Not sure which you think is disgusting.
Using your toothbrush - agree
Using kitchen sink - a bit off in someone else's house I suppose, but nothing too revolting. I've had to do that myself when the bathroom sink tap was broken. Meh.

She didn't say it wasn't his toothbrush. She just said got toothbrush from bathroom.

It's a sink, why is the kitchen different from the bathroom?

If it was a proper hacking up phlegm spit - yes - awful, but brushing teeth???? a bit of tooth paste foam??? NO.

I dont find this awful. I welcome people who brush their teeth infact...I like it, means fresh breath etc you would be surprised at the people who dogde toothbrushes.

much rather have a brusher

It was his toothbrush! He brought it with him for the visit! Grin

I know logically there's spit on the forks from dinner and scraps of food getting washed off dishes in there, but it just seems so gross to actually spit in the kitchen sink. I mean arguably there is more disgusting stuff out on the street, but spitting on the street is so disgusting too. But my kitchen sink? Please don't spit in my kitchen sink!!

Bleurgh to me but I have issues with toothpaste, brushing etc.

I wouldn't be bothered.

Why would one be? He's only spitting in the same sink that all the dirty cutlery, which goes in mouths too, goes into.

Why do people feel the need to have a wander when brushing their teeth? It's only 2 minutes stood next to the bathroom sink. Is he aware you're watching him and that it annoys you? Is he doing it on purpose and enjoying the fact he has an audience? I'd be disgusted too Hmm

YABU. Likely more germs in the sink than his mouth.

YANBU, OP. Bathroom sink for hand and face washing and tooth brushing. Sink for food preparation and washing up crockery only.

My nan used to keep her toothbrush and toothpaste at her kitchen sink and only ever brushed her teeth there. She was born in 1910 so I always assumed it was a hangover from the days before bathrooms really existed. It was totally normal for that generation I think - DH says his gran did the same. YABU and ridiculous.

Nothing wrong with spitting in the kitchen sink. It's not like he spat on your child or pet or something.

PIL clean all the dog bowls in the sink and it makes me feel sick. Funnily enough my own pets bowls don't bother me. My point disgust is irrational so YANBU to feel disgusted but I think you WBU to say anything about it to him.

What if you put a plate or fork in there? And then didn't wash it properly?

Then you would probably die of spit infection.

Or not.
