Honestly, the amount of declarations about what is healthy and unhealthy.. its ridiculous.

if you listened to everyone on here we'd all have to be vegans and living off sucking water through a celery stick.

Just shut up. If you honestly think food like Sausages, Mashed Potato, Tomato Soup, bread, cheese, milk and most fruit are unhealthy, the you're teaching your kids into eating disorders.

I love a lunchbox thread. Mine are teens now, once they leave Primary nobody cares too much.

The kids lunchbox ones are the best 😁 read one with 3 tiers, home made casserole, mung beans and hummus😂

I hate the " up your protein" and "cut out carbs" police.

Especially when theyre talking about children.

And the ones who recite anecdotal evidence or something they saw on instagram and try to pass it off as fact or science. Its not.

SIL is a bit of a food nazi... claims she never eats sugar, oh no, tut tut .... But she drinks a bottle of white wine per night?!

Have to agree. I find cooking from scratch a waste of time, when there are a gazillion books in the world left to read.

So, I rely very heavily on M&S/Waitrose ready prepped stuff and also stuff from 'Cook'.

We're all ridiculously healthy. I can't remember the last time I was ill? Haven't even had a cold in over a year.

Neither DD has had to see a GP since they had their pre school boosters, years ago. DD1 plays sport at county level, and DD2 represents the school at athletics and gymnastics.

DH did have tonsilitis, once, back in the late 90s, but has never been ill since. Genuinely. Not even coughs and colds. He is never, ever ill. When he went to the GP last year to get holiday jabs they panicked, thinking they'd lost his medical notes...nope, he just doesn't have any notes, because he is never ill.

Plus, using convenience stuff saves me hours and hours every week in cooking, and every scrap gets eaten because it's always delish and dead easy to cook. I rarely ever need to throw food away.

I remember somebody making a thread in parenting or something once saying their child had recently started having a piece of toast with breakfast and should she cut it out and what could she replace it with?

a piece of toast! as if it was a chocolate bar...

I'm a reception TA, I've still not got my head round the fact that the free milk is semi- skimmed, it should be whole milk. I agree. We grew up on a dairy farm and drank raw milk. My bones are those of a 20 year old.

I read on here that someone's idea of a treat was Weetabix. She was being serious Grin

Derek, start a lunch box thread? The "dad" who plays pranks on his son? Mn AND dm would have a field day!

Snugglysnerd, shall I start a Nutella debate? I experimented with making 'healthy' versions (no, it is either healthy or delicious), but found Felicity Cloaks Perfect .... recipe. It's not in any way healthy but much nicer than Nutella as you can adjust the sugar to your own taste. And it is completely full of chocolate and nut instead of being diluted with palm oil. It hardly gets into the jar when I make it, never mind being eaten straight out of it!

Oh yeah. If you hear about mothers who send their kids to school in rags or punch them in the face it's all like 'mustn't judge' on MN. Give them a Pom Bear and you're the WORST MOTHER EVAH!!

I missed the cheese and sausage threads, would one of you lovely lot be able to point me in the right direction please ?

I am Shock that's someone would give weetabix to a child as a treat, it sounds like a punishment to me.

And, I reckon my DDs probably eat chocolate just about every single day

And, they often have a bowl of cereal for a snack. They're not hugely keen on fruit, it has to be said. Though DD1 is weirdly addicted to cucumber (and Wispa Golds).

DD2 has scoffed 3 McDs this week, as she has been meeting up with friends in town (this is in addition to three square meals, too).

She's 5ft 7, with a 22 inch waist and a 33 inch inside leg [weeps]

^^ that is one of my favourites. Food threads are where MN completely departs from any semblance to RL.

Ime you always get a really broad range of replies on the "what have you eaten today" and "what's for dinner threads". I consider myself an average person and post on both of those whether I've eaten "good" or "bad" if I happen to see them. Tonight I'm having a chicken stir fry (all veg ready prepped by M&S thank you but the chicken is organic) last night I had the most amazing cod with chips cooked in beef dripping from local chippy.

What is really interesting is you'll see the same names crop up again and again on any thread about weight/diet/children's weight/lunch boxes/carbs/bmi - some people are absolutely obsessed. Which is unhealthy.

I was once commended by a little old lady in the eye clinic (with ds as he has sight problems). The twins were about 14/15 months and for a snack while we were waiting forever I'd give them cheese and grapes. She reckoned it was a good combination and I agreed with her.

All these kids being denied fats and calcium are going to end up with osteoporosis in later life.

I can't stand the food gestapo.

I think many of the food police are either outright lying about their children's virtuous diets, or at least have a whole lot of cognitive dissonance going on.

I was out with a friend the other day, and she was carefully telling another friend about how her family had gone low carb for the sake of their health, while her kids demolished a packet of decidly high carb biscuits she had brought with her 😅.
