Dd's first session at preschool child's poo on her - quick reponses pls

Just picked up toddler, screaming baby in tow when they said her first session went well but there was a poo incident with another toddler and poo got on her hat and cardi(?!)
I asked if she's touched it and what happened but screaming baby and toddler running out so dumped the offending items in bin and we've come home.
Called the manager for clarification on exactly what happened but is there a situation in which this isn't a big deal because it feels like its really bad. Dd said poo got on her shoes too and the girl did it on purpose but can't get any more info than that yet until manager calls back

Wouldn't have dumped the items - would have washed and used again.

To be honest wouldn't have even occured to me to call to find out what happened.

Whether this would give you concerns about the preschool itself I suppose I can overreacted but told DH whose quite chilled normally and he said what the hell is going on for a child to get poo on 3 area's of dd before they intervened

Toddlers can be gross and poo incidents happen!
I'd maybe just ask for clarification about circumstances next time you're in nursery but I wouldn't over worry about it.

And I certainly wouldn't judge the preschool on this one incident.

Many scenarios. For example - the other toddler realises she has done a poo and sticks her hands in it. She is upset by this, panics and flails around a bit and touches your DD in the midst of this, thus soiling her clothes. Presumably the preschool hadn't left your DD in soiled stuff? Remember that what to a child is "on purpose" can be, very obviously, an accident to an adult observer.

Concerns about the preschool...... because another child had a toilet accident?

It's impossible to second guess this -I'd wait to speak to the manager and see what happened. Toddlers poo, the nursery has informed you, no biggie.

I would want to know what happened. Was a dirty nappy left accessible to toddlers? How long before a member of staff noticed what was happening? Was it a deliberate act from the other child and if yes did it happen before? This kind of things.
I guess the point would be to understand if it could have been avoided, or if it was just one of these things that children make happen in a split second.

Poo features often in the lives of pre school children. You need to relax.

Am not sure what u r upset about. Wash clothes. Problem sorted. Kids are messy. Toddlers poo. Non event really.

Just ask - in a detached way - if they can let you know what happened. Preschools these days take kids much younger, so many aren't potty trained and so the chances of "poo incidents" must be quite high! Grim but true!

Toddlers are gross. It's in the job spec. You should have just washed the dirty stuff. Presumably they handed them to you bagged up?

Of course this can happen. If you end up with poo on yourself or your toddler occasionally at home, which I assume you do because it is very easy to do, think how easy it is to do this when they are all playing together in a nursery environment. You are going to make yourself into the biggest PITA ever if you call up about stuff like this asking for 'clarification on exactly what happened'.

Gross but don't worry OP. Preschool is like a zoo.

My DD's first week there she was pushed off a stage and sat on by the same child on different days.

She was also told to "Smell my wand!" by another little girl and when DD said she didn't want to smell it, the child kicked up a huge fuss!

DD smelled the wand.

She's 8 now and laughs so hard when she remembers that.

"Anna made me smell her wand!"

I think the preschool should explain how it happened,yes.
However, I wouldn't get too upset about it. Kids have poo accidents - and it is just poo and despite people's horror about poo,..it won't kill anyone.

OP, are you saying that you threw a hat and a cardigan away - as in, threw them into a rubbish bin - instead of asking for a plastic bag, taking them home and throwing them in the washing machine?

Whilst toddlers and poo everywhere go hand in hand, I would have expected an explanation as to what happened. I've never picked either of my kids up from nursery with another kid's poo on them!

Re the stuff that's been pooed on, you need to wash that in biological liquid rather than binning it (scrub the shoes with Jif and antibacterial wipes). If it's bad, get disposable gloves on, pick and scrub it first. It's just another little kid's poo, it's not dog poo and it won't hurt anyone, you just need to clean it up.
