Taking my boy in the ladies toilet...

So we were in a busy sports pub full of very happy (several drunk) people after a great win. My son needed the loo so I took him to the ladies with me. I was told by a very stroppy barmaid who happened to be in there that she wanted him out.
I said I didn't feel comfortable him going to the men's, she said well he's not coming in here. I said I don't want him in the men's alone. She said 'well go in there with him then'! So u did!
He's 10. Normally I'd send him in the men's, but not in a pub full of drunk strangers. I know some may think I've very over protective, but it really wouldn't have hurt her to just let him go for a quick were!!

So how did you actually teach Biology without teaching Biology??

A teacher, the word in this day and age signifies it's a profession.

I am not a teacher.

You can't teach without a pass grade on Maths and English.

No, you can't be a teacher without a pass grade.

you can be brought in to teach without one.

Really, Jason? A bit of a sweeping statement there, no?!
Anyway, I wouldn't know. I don't teach in the primary sector nor did I ever do GCSEs. I was not educated in England.

The biggest threat to a little boy, or big boy or men for that matter, is not that it is likely he is going to be raped or abducted, that isn't why I would do the same as the OP. The much more frequent problem is that he would witness something that is not appropriate for a child to witness, to be fair I don't think anyone should be witnessing certain things unless they are asked in advance and give their consent and a child can't do that.

Before I worked for the vice squad I assumed, in my innocence, that if two men wanted to get involved in a sexual act in a toilet they would go into a cubicle, there might be strange noises that a child wouldn't understand but no problem. This isn't' always the case, in face it frequently isn't. I knew policemen with several years service who were shocked at what they sometimes saw in a public toilet.

Personally I think comparing a little boy alone in a toilet witnessing that to a little girl in a women's toilet seeing the boy with his mother is ridiculous.

I am actually very shocked, and it takes alot to shock me, at the level of dislike and lack of care that people are expressing about a child.

OP feel proud that you care for your child and do what you think is right, you and your son will be the ones living with the fallout if you dont.

I doubt that very much. It would be a very strange school that employed an unqualified teacher.

No not really, you don't go around pretending to be a teacher in any capacity.

if you say you are a teacher it means you work as a teacher.

This is *exactly the example I referred to pages back and some poster said it was ridiculous to suggest such a thing. Glad you have told people what does happen in RL!.

I'll mention to my 12yo dd that she needs to learn to move like a girl to stop people assuming she is a boy. Can anyone help with what 'moving like a girl' might be though? Hip swishing? Hair tossing? I'm stumped, as so many people get it wrong and it embarrasses her. Clearly I haven't taught her to 'girl' well enough...

No 10 year old boy (excluding children with SN) should go to the toilet with a parent. How the fuck do parents who are so overprotective manage day to day parenting?

If a parent doesn't want their son to go to the gents then that is their issue, girls should not have to feel uncomfortable with a male in their space just because his mummy is anxious.

I have nothing against children going to pubs, mine have been going since they were tiny, family friendly pubs and if there were rowdy people around, (so rowdy that I didn't trust my child to go to the loo on their own) then it isn't safe for them to be there full stop.
