Taking my boy in the ladies toilet...

So we were in a busy sports pub full of very happy (several drunk) people after a great win. My son needed the loo so I took him to the ladies with me. I was told by a very stroppy barmaid who happened to be in there that she wanted him out.
I said I didn't feel comfortable him going to the men's, she said well he's not coming in here. I said I don't want him in the men's alone. She said 'well go in there with him then'! So u did!
He's 10. Normally I'd send him in the men's, but not in a pub full of drunk strangers. I know some may think I've very over protective, but it really wouldn't have hurt her to just let him go for a quick were!!

If I spent my life imagining what could happen I'd probably never leave my bed.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/08/2016 14:52

Do you realise how rare this is?

Doggity · 29/08/2016 14:52

30% of young women report being sexually abused in childhood (pre age of 18). I wonder how many of you were that child who was abused and felt constant fear about male presences in supposed women only spaces. And yes, when you're 10, another 10 year old boy probably is quite scary to you too because you're a kid and not able to be rational.

freetrampolineforall · 29/08/2016 14:53

Disabled myself and absolutely don't think people should make free use of disabled loos, but again, I would rather my nervous dd goes in there with dh than in a men's loo.

Doggity · 29/08/2016 14:54

Yes, it's might better that a disabled person accidentally soils or pisses themselves. FFS freetrampoline.

Babyamazon · 29/08/2016 14:54

How many boys are abused?

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 29/08/2016 14:54

Most people are giving opinions and imagining a hypothetical situation. Very few have actually been in the "dreaded situation" themselves. Those who have are providing anecdotal evidence. There is no proof.

The point.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/08/2016 14:55

Shh Boys don't matter Baby

Doggity · 29/08/2016 14:55

1 in 5 sexual crimes reported in children are boys. 90% are by someone known to them, so even less likely to be assualted in the toilet if that's what you're getting at.

Bitofacow · 29/08/2016 14:56

Babyamazon you are confused, men do all the abusing and women are always the victims. Keep up. (Sarcasm people)

freetrampolineforall · 29/08/2016 14:56

Doggity - told the thread - disabled myself so entirely understand trouble that can be caused if I can't get to a loo. But thanks for assuming I wouldn't think of it.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/08/2016 14:56

There is no proof.

I've been saying this all the way along...

The whole thing is Crap and doesn't happen in the real world. But makes a good MN thread.

Doggity · 29/08/2016 14:56

Oh fuck off with boys don't matter. They do matter. They should be safe in male toilets and free of abuse. Do you have a son Jason?

RichardBucket · 29/08/2016 14:57

freetrampolineforall So you've considered it and then dismissed it? Not sure how that's supposed to be better...

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/08/2016 14:58

Do you have a son Jason?

No. is that necessary?

freetrampolineforall · 29/08/2016 14:58

No. Considered it and would still rather my dd not go into a gents with my dh.

RichardBucket · 29/08/2016 14:58

Considered it and dismissed it. Okay.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/08/2016 14:58

unless..... creepy waxwork models don't count do they?

MeAndMy3LovelyBoys · 29/08/2016 14:59

I don't wish to be harassed in the toilet with my 6 year old because someone has decided he looks 9.

Exactly! As I've said previously my 5 year old looks 7. And if someone decides to be rude to me and my child because they don't like his size and/or the fact that he has a penis then they shouldn't expect a polite answer back from me.

freetrampolineforall · 29/08/2016 14:59

Perhaps my dd should piss herself rather than go into a safe loo. I'll consider that next time.

MoreCoffeeNow · 29/08/2016 15:00

5 or 6 times now i've asked if peopel have seen a child of 10 in a female toilet in real life... noone has.

I have, I said so pages back.

Doggity · 29/08/2016 15:01

Still not getting it some of you, are you?! There is such a low chance of anything happening to your son is the toilet while you stand outside in a busy pub toilet door. Statistically, your son is less likely to be abused and if they are, it's by someone known to you.

WankingMonkey · 29/08/2016 15:01

Main issue with this for me tbh is the child does not want to be using the womens with his mother. At what stage do we let them grow up? Men do not just become some big scary perverts once they hit 18. This child, will become one of the big hairy scary people that the OP thinks of other men in 8 years ffs...

Babyamazon · 29/08/2016 15:01

It is all quite funny because no one has toilet angst in rl.

totalrecall1 · 29/08/2016 15:02

But honking allowances are made for disabled people they have their own toilet. If he doesn't have the capacity to be alone and stand outside the loo whilst you are in there ie has the capacity of a toddler why can't you wee in front of him in the disabled loos? And if it's inappropriate in front of a career perhaps he should have a male career? A 15 year old shouldn't be in the ladies loos. That is totally wrong.
