Taking my boy in the ladies toilet...

40andfucked · 28/08/2016 19:53

So we were in a busy sports pub full of very happy (several drunk) people after a great win. My son needed the loo so I took him to the ladies with me. I was told by a very stroppy barmaid who happened to be in there that she wanted him out.
I said I didn't feel comfortable him going to the men's, she said well he's not coming in here. I said I don't want him in the men's alone. She said 'well go in there with him then'! So u did!
He's 10. Normally I'd send him in the men's, but not in a pub full of drunk strangers. I know some may think I've very over protective, but it really wouldn't have hurt her to just let him go for a quick were!!

FFS!!

Stop taking advantage of the fact that 10 year old girls aren't going to stand up to you when you take your 10 year old sons into a women's space. It's totally not ok for you to trample on their feelings.

You might be fine with unisex public toilets or male cleaners in female loos but many are not and that is their prerogative. The people who are not fine are clearly a sizeable majority considering the fact that they warn you with a sign if male cleaners are cleaning the ladies.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/08/2016 13:15

These 10 year old boys which actually exist of course.

eyebrowsonfleek · 29/08/2016 13:16

Sharing a toilet at home with male family members is totally different to male classmates/strange male children. Hmm

BertrandRussell · 29/08/2016 13:19

Sharing a loo with male members of your family is completely different to sharing one with strangers. Don't be daft!

PollyPerky · 29/08/2016 13:29

YANBU

There are 10 yr olds and 10 yr olds.

To the poster who said they should do something to stop children feeling threatened in such circ, well, yes there is this thing called the LAW which forbids cottaging, child abuse and rape. But that doesn' t mean it ever happens.

In 99:100 instances a 10 yr old boy should be able to use a men's loo safely. In some instances it may be better not to take a risk and use the women's. The odds of anything happening in a sports club are probably far less than at 'outside loos' anywhere, and all in all it's remote chance.

And for people who say 10 is not a child- FFS- of course it is!

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 29/08/2016 13:29

@eyebrowsonfleek

I concur. Totally. Your post is the best in pages of shrieking drivel. Why do the "mums" feel they have right in their side whatever course of action they want to take?

I just scrolled through the most recent stuff otherwise I would have lost the will to live.
The sense of entitlement is ludicrous.

Maybe the poster who is posting the pic of a bull has a point. The mummy OP is lurving all this attention! Lol

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 29/08/2016 13:31

A little boy is allowed - but only if he cleans up all his splatters. A 10 year old should not be so wet.

MindSweeper · 29/08/2016 13:32

I'm still in shock a NT 10 year old would want to go into the women's with his mum.

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 29/08/2016 13:32

Women - IN ADDITION to mums - and girls have rights to privacy.

MindSweeper · 29/08/2016 13:32

I couldn't imagine a dad taking his NT 10 year old girl in the mens

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/08/2016 13:35

Yet people jump on the idea it happens with boys?

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/08/2016 13:35

Has anyone seen a 10 year old boy in the ladies in real life?

MindSweeper · 29/08/2016 13:36

Nope never.

PollyPerky · 29/08/2016 13:37

Mindsweeper aren't you missing the point that boys are sometimes raped by men, in toilets, but IME girls- ten or any age- are not raped by women in women's toilets.

Babyamazon · 29/08/2016 13:38

The difference is there aren't the same dangers in the ladies hence why a girl can go alone if she's with her dad.

The difference in a male toilet attendant is he's a man the other is a child.

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 29/08/2016 13:39

A 10 year old in the ladies' loo? Ever? Ever ever?

Erm...nope.

Weird...

PollyPerky · 29/08/2016 13:39

I doubt any of us could 'age spot' a 10 yr old. I used to work with children and can tell you that some 10 yr old boys look anywhere from 7-10 if they are small, and some 10 yr old boys look more like 12 yr olds.

I have seen boys in women's toilets - they look somewhere from 6-9 but who knows. I don't give a FF tbh- I'm in a cubicle of washing my hands. I assume their mum's have some reason for bringing them in, such as the child has SN or they can't be left outside the loo when the mum uses it.

It's not a big deal FFS!

MindSweeper · 29/08/2016 13:40

No I'm not missing the point.

And by 'sometimes' you make it sound like it's a much more regular occurrence than it actually is.

Babyamazon · 29/08/2016 13:40

It isn't only risk of rape either. Boys have been flashed at, seen men wanking.

My son can't reach the urinals, dh says it's actually more risky a boy going into a cubicle alone.

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 29/08/2016 13:41

The point is that some of you are totally OTT.
Good grief. Glad you didn't parent Meir I would still be wrapping myself up in fluffy cotton wool.

asdfghjjkl · 29/08/2016 13:41

why would anyone object to a 10 yr old in the ladies to be honest i often wonder what some women get up to in the cubicles they seem to be in there for ever ,sometimes think they've fallen asleep maybe she thinks he might find out the secret

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 29/08/2016 13:41

...parent me or ...

PollyPerky · 29/08/2016 13:42

You are missing the point MIND because girls are not at risk of being raped or abused in a women's toilet by other women. Boys are.

Also, men fuck other men in men's toilets. I don't think gay women have sex in women's toilets.

honkinghaddock · 29/08/2016 13:42

My son who is nearly 10 goes in with me if there is no disabled toilet but he is not NT and does have the grounds of reasonable adjustment on his side. In the op's case I think waiting outside the door for him would have provided enough safety.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 29/08/2016 13:43

couldn't imagine a dad taking his NT 10 year old girl in the mens

some people here think they can not only age spot, but also tell the sex of a child from their haircut.

isn't it more likely the person who tells boys off for being in the ladies are actually picking on girls with short hair and neutral clothes?
