Taking my boy in the ladies toilet...

So we were in a busy sports pub full of very happy (several drunk) people after a great win. My son needed the loo so I took him to the ladies with me. I was told by a very stroppy barmaid who happened to be in there that she wanted him out.
I said I didn't feel comfortable him going to the men's, she said well he's not coming in here. I said I don't want him in the men's alone. She said 'well go in there with him then'! So u did!
He's 10. Normally I'd send him in the men's, but not in a pub full of drunk strangers. I know some may think I've very over protective, but it really wouldn't have hurt her to just let him go for a quick were!!

In cubicles?
Oh no, I pee'd, oh no I flushed the toilet to hide the noise of a perfectly natural bodily function, oh no the noise of a sanitary product opening might alert others to the fact I am a freak. OH NO
Everyone out there will know I am human arrrrrrggggghhhhhhh

LucyBabs · 29/08/2016 00:04

No toads I can't.. Ten year old boys are very similar to ten year old girls.. A lot of ten year old girls won't have their period..most haven't been through puberty. I wouldn't automatically feel comfortable around woman because she's a woman and automatically feel uncomfortable around a man because he's man.

fwiw I was sexually abused from the age of 9 till I was 12 by a man.. I'm very aware of the risks etc--

RichardBucket · 29/08/2016 00:06

paddlingpool Are you a pubescent girl? Although you seem to have the maturity of one, I'm guessing not. Can your little mind not imagine that teenage girls don't rationalise fears about their body in the same way as most grown women?

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 29/08/2016 00:06

Quit being a dick paddling.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 29/08/2016 00:07

Richard I think some people genuinely forget what it's like to be a teenager.

jellybeans · 29/08/2016 00:08

Yanbu

RichardBucket · 29/08/2016 00:08

Yes. Or they're just dicks.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 29/08/2016 00:09

Or both.

paddlingpool · 29/08/2016 00:11

Richardbucket, a long time ago sanitary products were not advertised as they are now. I believe the young women of today are on the cusp of feeling no shame.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 29/08/2016 00:12

On a recent camping trip there was a male cleaner in the toilets mopping the floor and guess what I still needed a pee!!! Yes slightly embarrassing that he heard me wee but I get embarrassed if anyone hears me wee but I had nothing on show.

SparkleTea · 29/08/2016 00:12

I remember my mum telling me to take my younger brother into the toilet. I told him to go to the men's on his own I waited at the till. There was a drugged up man in the men's holding the door shut as my brother tried to get in... He ended up using the ladies. We drove past the McDonalds where it happen a few hours later and there were armed units with guns surrounding the place. I will always do this when I have my children. ( in America btw)

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 29/08/2016 00:13

I hate going for a wee if a male cleaner is there Blush

So I just wait until he's finished or go somewhere else.

RichardBucket · 29/08/2016 00:13

paddlingpool You believe very wrongly.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 29/08/2016 00:15

What are all these women doing out the kitchen anyway?

They have some brass knack to dare to speak up about things that bother them. They need to put up and shut up.

And of course get back in the kitchen.

Wink
paddlingpool · 29/08/2016 00:15

Evidence please

OfaFrenchmind2 · 29/08/2016 00:15

Wishful thinking, paddlingpool, or reality? Because as much as I would love that to be true, I have enough contact with teen girls to think we are really not there yet.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 29/08/2016 00:16

brass neck

Hmm
RichardBucket · 29/08/2016 00:16

paddlingpool You made the claim. Burden of proof's on you.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 29/08/2016 00:16

Evidence please

Yawn.

paddlingpool · 29/08/2016 00:18

Toads, I fully remember embarrassing teen experiences and now live and work with teens. I appreciate it might not be the same everywhere but in my experience we have moved on. Joint toilets with independent cubicles just seems rational to me.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 29/08/2016 00:20

we have moved on.

Not by much.

paddlingpool · 29/08/2016 00:20

Ofafrench, following your comments on the burkini, cba

paddlingpool · 29/08/2016 00:21

Toads, I agree, but it's sad

OfaFrenchmind2 · 29/08/2016 00:23

That's your problem then.

PersianCatLady · 29/08/2016 00:25

What does NT mean?
According to the Mumsnet Acronym List NT = neurologically typical.

I must admit that at first I found it really hard to translate all of the acronyms on Mumsnet and then I found this -
