To think Corbyn has been exposed as a liar

JonathanDunn · 23/08/2016 20:52

He lied about the train. Aibu to think this is a show of character

OP posts:
JassyRadlett · 23/08/2016 22:37

He wants to do something about that.

Hurrah! Just a pity the message is undermined by a cheap but of spin that has been latched on to.

Purpleprickles · 23/08/2016 22:39

Frequent Virgin traveller, there are never any seats and you are buggered if you don't reserve. People actually run from the Euston concourse to the train in rush our using cases and bags as weapons to knock other seat opponents out. No point sitting in a reserved one because you'll just be biting into your overpriced train sarnie and be asked to move.

JC aside travelling Virgin is pretty dire.

StripeyMonkey1 · 23/08/2016 22:40

So Jeremy Corbyn uses spin.

Spin is ok when used by Jeremy Corbyn.

There are bigger issues, right?

UnGoogleable · 23/08/2016 22:42

Yep. Happened to me the other day. And even then I failed to find a seat. It's grim.

And don't even get me started on those fucking talking toilets, designed to terrorize....

merrymouse · 23/08/2016 22:42

He wants to do something about that.

Perhaps he would be a little further along the road if he hadn't lost his shadow transport minister.

NNChangeAgain · 23/08/2016 22:45

The fact that all they can come up with is this just shows that JC is indeed as honest and transparent as he appears.

Which, for a leader of the opposition and prospective prime minister is, quite frankly, terrifying.

The country wouldn't survive 5 minutes in the international political arena if our PM was "honest" and "transparent". Politics is about bluff and not showing your hand. It's all very well saying he wants to do a different type of politics, but if he's playing by marquis of Queensbury rules while the rest of the world are street fighting, we're screwed.

Purpleprickles · 23/08/2016 22:46

Ungoogleable yes toilets are awful too. I'm always terrified the huge door will just decide to open revealing me on the loo. What's wrong with a manual lock?

JassyRadlett · 23/08/2016 22:53

Spin is ok when used by Jeremy Corbyn

I have yet to come across the thing that is not ok when done/used by Jeremy Corbyn in some people's eyes.

And the converse is equally true.

So tedious and dishonest.

LunaLoveg00d · 23/08/2016 22:55

Dearie me, what a prat that man is. Their little PR stunt has backfired somewhat on them.

Liiinoo · 23/08/2016 22:55

i got a train from a southern seaside resort to a major London terminal last week as I do pretty much every week of the year. Until we passed Gatwick I sat on the floor outside the empty first class compartment. So yes, there were seats available , but not seats I had paid for. Just like JC and the reserved seats he hadn't paid for.

Once we passed Gatwick the train cleared a bit, but even then I had to ask someone to move her suitcase from a seat so I could have a seat. She looked most surprised that I would want her to do this.

I am a calm, patient, reasonable woman 95% of the time but I really get a total stabby rage when people expect me to stand so their suitcase/guitar/picnic box can have a comfy seat. And they always look so surprised when I ask them to move it - like they hadn't noticed that the train is packed to the rafters.

UnGoogleable · 23/08/2016 22:57

I'm always terrified the huge door will just decide to open revealing me on the loo. What's wrong with a manual lock?

I have seen it happen. Poor lady was sat on the loo, when the door swung open to expose her to the entire corridor. There has been a thread on here about them, apparently it's happened to a few people!!!!!!

I like a physical latch to properly lock a door!

Back to JC - The country wouldn't survive 5 minutes in the international political arena if our PM was "honest" and "transparent" - I get what you're saying. But what a sad state of affairs if the only way a leader can get ahead is by being dishonest. Call me naive but I believe you can be a good leader and be honest, the two aren't mutually exclusive.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/08/2016 23:02

There is nothing wrong in sitting in a reserved seat if clearly no one has turned up to take the reserved seat ; or it's only reserved for a later stop and you move before that stop. And he clearly walked through a carriage of unreserved seats.

If people have allocated a seat to their coat or bag then you politely ask them if the seat is free.

Now he's changing his story from no seats to could not get one beside his wife. It's all very silly.

Finally, what exactly was the big deal about not taking a first class ticket?

2kids2dogsnosense · 23/08/2016 23:02

I think Corbyn is one of the few honest politicians we have, This is why he is unpopular. His personal integrity is offensive to all of the lying, self-serving, egotistical shysters in his own party and in others. He doesn't stand a chance.

cardibach · 23/08/2016 23:03

Luna you haven't read the reports supporting his account then? Or even this thread, which links to them and discusses them. I don't think it's Corbyn who is being a prat...

DeloresDeSyn · 23/08/2016 23:03

^ this exactly

DeloresDeSyn · 23/08/2016 23:06

Oops, that was meant for * obviously I'm a slow typist!

NNChangeAgain · 23/08/2016 23:07

what exactly was the big deal about not taking a first class ticket?

At tax payers expense? No, tax payers would far rather see an elected MP sitting on the floor reading a comic then actually making good use of the travelling time by doing some of the work that he receives an allowance for.

Of course, JCs wife would have to paid for her own travel of any class; unless of course she is somehow entitled to claim travel costs as a member of his paid team?

NNChangeAgain · 23/08/2016 23:11

2kids His "personal integrity" makes him a liability in the current political arena.

He can't 'change politics' single handedly.

He'll remain unelectable because the system is not going to change rapidly enough to allow him access. All the while it is as it is, he won't be taken seriously, by parliamentary colleagues or the electorate.

StripeyMonkey1 · 23/08/2016 23:13

If the tax payers expense is so important, why not buy a much cheaper advance ticket, particularly when it is not a last minute decision to go to a conference?

Answer..

a. I can't be bothered
b. I can't use it as propaganda if I pre-book a seat
c. ...??

squoosh · 23/08/2016 23:14

The Tories have announced plans to scrap the Human Rights Act. I don't give a fuck who sat where on a train.

HornyTortoise · 23/08/2016 23:15

I swear Corbyn couldn't fart without it being a headline these days

HornyTortoise · 23/08/2016 23:17

Honestly its refreshing to have party leader who doesn't take the best of the best and put it on the taxpayers bill. Anyone else would be first class with a 70 quid breakfast and a bottle of champagne thrown in, then maybe a new outfit when they got off, and then a limo to take them to their 5* hotel..booked all inclusive for 5 nights..all for an hour long confverence at 3pm on a Monday.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 23/08/2016 23:20

So Corbyn complains the trains are overcrowded, badly run and expensive.
Richard Branson (who relies on said badly run trains for part of his fortune) tries to undermine Corbyn. And certain people fall for it. Hmm
Virgin should be apologising for being shit and explaining why our trains are amongst the worst in Europe. But luckily for them, there are enough idiots willing to play personality politics and hand corporates a free pass or should that be a hugely expensive pass for a journey without a seat

NNChangeAgain · 23/08/2016 23:37

The Tories have announced plans to scrap the Human Rights Act

The reason JC is making the news, rather than influencing the news, is because he's not a very effective leader of the opposition and hasn't managed to secure any political gain from the statement made by the Home Sec today (which was to confirm what the previous home sec said back in April).

Karoleann · 23/08/2016 23:44

squoosh - the human rights act is not fit for purpose - why would you want terrorists and criminals to be allowed to stay in the UK just because they have a tenuous link here or ANY link here.
We need something that encompasses everyone in the UK and we need to write it ourselves.
NB Corbyn is awful and should have booked a seat like everyone else.
