Basically I told my friend I've not gone outside South East England for 11 years and she was shocked. Aibu to think that this isn't unusual. I just don't like the UK much prefer rest of Europe.

Misleading thread title!

Iggi999 · 23/08/2016 17:58

Goady much?

myownprivateidaho · 23/08/2016 18:00

You mean you have been to Europe just not to the rest of the UK? I'm pretty impressed you've managed this, but no of course yanbu.

MushyPeeeees · 23/08/2016 18:03

I'm probably being dumb but I don't understand why the thread title is misleading or why the op is being goady? Confused

AgentProvocateur · 23/08/2016 18:05

Your horizons are very small.

Sunshine1973 · 23/08/2016 18:05

No been to Europe I've been to places like Manchester years ago just find it easier and nicer to bust say Paris for a weekend rather then Manchester it's quicker as well.

Lorelei76 · 23/08/2016 18:07

YANBU
People should just do what they like
I've had periods of years where I've not left England, so what? It suited me, that's all that matters.

cherryplumbanana · 23/08/2016 18:08

It probably isn't unusual, and if you are happy with it, what's the problem. If I only go away at least once a year, I feel trapped, but I accept it's entirely my issue.

NotYoda · 23/08/2016 18:09

I think you've seen some great places in Europe but also missed out on some lovely ones - I love coastal areas, and Britain has amazing ones

bibbitybobbityyhat · 23/08/2016 18:10

Mushypees - in her first post the op says she prefers Europe to the UK outside London and the South East. So presumably she has been to Europe, just not done much travelling in the UK.

I don't agree that it's goady, I just think its a bit pathetic really.

ny20005 · 23/08/2016 18:11

Op, going to Europe means leaving south east England .....

nancy75 · 23/08/2016 18:12

I'm probably the same as the op, I have travelled extensively outside of the U.K. but I probably haven't been anywhere in the uk other than London/ south east for about 15 years (maybe longer)

Iggi999 · 23/08/2016 18:13

Well, "I just don't like the UK much" (outside of SE) is a bit of a slight to vast areas of the UK, especially as this is not based on any actual experience within the last decade!
But don't worry OP, the north of England, Wales, Scotland and NI will manage just fine without your visit.

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 23/08/2016 18:14

Yanbu it's quite normal for Londoners never to leave London unless they are going abroad

Hassled · 23/08/2016 18:14

So you have in fact travelled outside the SE within 11 years if you've been to Europe. Your thread title is very misleading.

It's up to you, of course. I'm guilty of knowing parts of Europe much better than I know say Yorkshire - but I feel I need to sort that out.

I think it's a pity but being in the south east, it's probably much easier for you to get to Europe than other parts of the UK. I grew up and lived in East Kent until my early 30s, and having the tunnel, ferries and airports close by meant I spent much more time in France and other parts of Europe than I did in farflung parts of the UK.

NicknameUsed · 23/08/2016 18:18

"I just don't like the UK much prefer rest of Europe."

How can you justify this if you haven't even seen the rest of the UK? Seriously, this is a very silly thing to say and just confirms the stereotypical image of an ignorant home counties xenophobe.

I had a brilliant weekend in London a couple of weeks ago. I had an equally brilliant weekend in Wiltshire recently.

cherryplumbanana · 23/08/2016 18:18

Oh, I misunderstood Blush

so its either London or abroad? .... Are we supposed to be impressed in any way?

Goady much?

Just a pinch.

Fucking school holidays Hmm

PotteringAlong · 23/08/2016 18:28

You're missing out. London and the SE is the worst bit of the U.K.

SpaceUnicorn · 23/08/2016 18:29

Are we supposed to be impressed in any way?

No, we're supposed to gratify the GF with a defensive bun fight Wink
