Basically I told my friend I've not gone outside South East England for 11 years and she was shocked. Aibu to think that this isn't unusual. I just don't like the UK much prefer rest of Europe.

It's interesting. If someone from Swansea told you they had not left South Wales for 11 years, you might consider them to be insular, backward etc, but Londoners can live/study/work in London all their lives, and that's cool, because London is the be-all-and-end-all.

The OP doesn't like places like these then Hmm

yoda I admit to never having lived in London; my sister lives there as do lots of my friends and I just don't understand how or why they do it! Commutes that take hours? Ridiculous house prices? Crazy school fights? Not for me... Grin

Interestingly, I am from the home counties and I can honestly say that the rest of my family who still live there are ridiculously insular.

This was my view having tea last night. I will take the north east over London any day of the week.

You're missing out. London and the SE is the worst bit of the U.K.

That's extremely sweeping statement..... Shock

How can you 'not like' the rest of the UK? That's slightly ridiculous IMO.

I think it's a waste...I love going abroad but we have at least 2 or 3 short UK trips every year and I love visiting different UK places. We've just got back from ten days holidaying in the UK...we hit the North York Moors and Scarborough, went up to Loch Ness, then back down to the Lake District and ended with a wander about and lunch in Liverpool before going home (Wales). The kids met other kids from all over the UK which was great for them...don't know what's not to like tbh.

I asume you're not the queen so you don't have any duty to visit the country.
If you don't like it, you don't like it. I like the UK but I haven't seen all of it either and it doesn't bother me one way or the other if I do. It is as nice as Europe though but it doesn't feel as exciting when you see your own country as much as it does when you are somewhere with different language, food and architecture. So I get it.

This is precisely the kind of sneery, superior attitude that has irritated people who live outside London to such an extent that they voted for Brexit to stick it to the metropolitan smuggos.

I make a point of getting through the SE as fast as I can en route to the West Country when I come back from Belgium.

pottering where you live looks amazing. London is fucking awesome too.

Jeez, why do people have to put down somewhere else to feel good about/big up where they live?? There are loads of great places in the UK you don't have to personally want to live in all of them, and YABU OP to suggest you've never left London/south east when in fact you're gadding off to Europe at the drop of a hat. But YANBU to go or stay wherever you bloody please.

Sorry, these smug oneupmanship threads about 'I can't understand why anyone would live anywhere other than where I am' really get my goat. I'm going for a Wine

You can go wherever you like. You are not 'unreasonable' you can do whatever you like.

I also live in S . I would relocate in a shot to our beautiful coastline or the dales if my work was available there.

TBF your post is unlikely to make you welcome anywhere else.

To be fair I've lived lots of other places and the north east has its faults, without a shadow of a doubt. It just seems a bit bizarre to me to never want to leave London or the SE!

Tbf Pottering, you're doing a very good job of being as goady as the Op Grin.

It's ok. We get it. You don't have to keep repeating yourself.

Pottering

beaches like that a where I like to go on holiday

In my everyday life, I like to pay over the odds for property (yes), travel for hours to get to work (5 minute walk) and fight over schools (really good selection here, actually) Grin

This is why we have a camper van

Whatever you do, don't come to Scotland. We have to put up with shit like this. Mainland Europe is much nicer.
