Pretty please?

I'm too scared to go in person.

I meant to add, I didn't ask about a book at random. If anyone was going to contact me from beyond the grave it would be my nan, who always, even in the depths of dementia, asked me what book I was reading. If she's peeking at me, she knows!

JinkxMonsoon · 21/08/2016 16:34

if there isn't a scientific experiment to prove it then it can't be true?!?

Yes. Exactly that.

Nasty old patriarchal science.

I've just Googled and the million dollar challenge was terminated in 2015. It ran for 51 years and nobody was able to claim it Grin

BertrandRussell · 21/08/2016 16:53

It's still open to established "professional" psychics though.......

Thank you bikerloo- when I can get at a bigger screen I'll read it properly. But much respect for you for taking it on!

I didn't know it was an expression either. It just reminded me of my ds game, were if you don't take your joy pill and have a clown face they come after you and ask if your a downer. You don't want to be caught being a downer........

IfTheCapFitsWearIt · 21/08/2016 16:59

Basically if you don't take your joy, then you'll find out the truth and their whole society will collapse.

Sorry TMI Grin

venusinscorpio · 21/08/2016 17:12

Do people really believe that Scorpios like me are affected by a rock that is 5 billion miles from earth and was downgraded to a planetoid? Its radius is 700 miles FFS

No, that isn't what the majority of modern astrologers believe. As someone who claims to be an expert on astrology and astrologers would know.

It's quite possible your mum's best friend just told you what you wanted to hear at the time, as yes, some people do. But not all. Astrologers are human beings, they're fallible, like anyone else. You're presenting a personal anecdote as evidence of objective truth - exactly the same rules apply to you with that, as they do to the people who present anecdotes about visits to psychics, i.e. personally convincing to you but not necessarily to others.

venusinscorpio · 21/08/2016 17:17

Yes. Exactly that.

No, of course not. How ridiculous. Or do you think the natural processes involved in any modern scientific discovery only actually came into existence when an experiment was designed by human beings that demonstrated them?

BertrandRussell · 21/08/2016 17:27

It's not so much that things only come into existence when science can prove them- it's that things should disappear when science tests them and proves them not to work. There are tons of things science doesn't understand-yet. But also tons that it does.

venusinscorpio · 21/08/2016 17:41

Yes, agreed. I was responding to a very definite statement that something can't possibly be true if science hasn't proved it to be.

Which is wrong.

That game looks really intriguing. I want to play it and I haven't played a computer game since Space Invaders and Chuckie Egg.
