The hook for Derren Brown is that he makes you believe for a tiny second that what you are seeing is the paranormal/parapsychological real deal, but he tells you why it is not the case. He blows open the mystery around it all, telling you how he does it.
So yes, I'd pay £50 any time to see him do that, but not give it to someone who is using the same techniques to try and tell me my Granny is watching over me.

I'm bowing out of this thread now as I've already spent too much time repeating myself on it. One (two, technically) last question before I go though, why are certain posters on here so adamant to try and strip others of their own opinion just because it doesn't match there's? Why can't you accept some people believe in things you don't and there's nothing wrong with that?

If a colleague of yours said to you tomorrow that she had spent the weekend looking for magical fairies in her garden in order to make a wish - who the fuck cares? If she doesn't need sectioning and that's how she gets her kicks, leave her to it! Dylan re work you need to remove unnecessary activities, you are working too hard and won't accept help from others. You need to balance the personal and professional sides of your life. Assert your creativity abd independence. Stop underestimating yourself. Are youcompeting with others or competing against yourself? Because he explicitly tells people what he is doing is a trick and doesn't contain any spiritual elements or contravene the laws of nature. He might not explain the exact mechanics of the trick but he's always been crystal clear that it is an illusion.

Plus he has spent a good portion of his career documenting how cults, the psychic industry and other types of woo-artists seek to exploit people.

If you'd gone expecting spirituality it would be like wandering into a cheese shop and expecting a haircut.

Sure Bertrand Russell, there are no guarantees there even will be any hits by the most talented of psychics or tarot readers which is why I never ask for payment because it isn't ethical unless you can guarantee a product or results, I have a day job that pays my bills.
I have several friends who do it as a job for money but I feel a bit sniffy about it to be honest.

Why? Because self-professed psychics are scum, who make things up for money or adulation.
I believe there are things Science hasn't yet fully explained, that the Mind is a wonderful enough thing to marvel at in itself and that no human being can be a conduit to the Other Side unless there are existing bonds between the people who are dead and those still living.

But Zen it is still nothing specific. It is just Barnum statements, vague platitudes and broad brush claims and hoping that people see the 'hits' and read over the misses'. Even within these very wide parameters you've set yourself you've been pretty inaccurate.

Although to be fair the idea I am working to hard and won't accept help from others gave me a good laugh!
